Manny Fernandez vs. Randy & Bill Mulkey

Previous PPV matches: This is a first PPV match involving these three men.

Great American Bash PPV Record: Manny Fernandez is 3-1 at this event, The Mulky Brothers debut tonight.

Match: We join this match already in action with Manny Fernandez in control. Fernandez has control of Bill and then Randy who he throws out of the ring. Back in the ring and Fernandez hits a back body drop and big right hand. Fernandez then hits Randy with the flying burrito for the win. Paul jones celebrates with his man.

Result: Manny Fernandez wins by pinfall.

Review: A big win for Manny Fernandez tonight. I didn’t have the full match to view so it was short. Fernandez needed a win tonight and he got it despite Mulkeymania running wild.

Rating: N/A

Jimmy Garvin & Ron Garvin vs. The Sheepherders (Luke & Butch)

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match between these two teams.

Great American Bash PPV Record: Ron Garvin is 2-1, Jimmy Garvin is 1-2 and The Sheepherders debut at this event tonight.

Match: Ron Garvin starts the match against Butch and it’s a cagey start to the match. Jimmy Garvin tags in and it’s back and forth between he and Butch. The Sheepherders have Johnny Ace on the outside flying their flag. Ronnie Garvin takes the fight to the outside as Precious cheers on her team. The Sheepherders take control against Ronnie, making quick tags and double teaming hands of stone. There’s a miscommunication and Luke nails Butch. Ron then hammers Luke over the top rope. The Sheepherders are back to dominating. I think there are some edits in this match. Yes, there definitely are as it’s Jimmy Garvin now taking abuse from Luke and Butch. They stop Jimmy from making a tag using classic heel tactics. Jimmy manages to knock The Sheepherders into one another and then tags in his brother (step-father) Ronnie! Ronnie fires up on both opponents and applies a sleeper to Butch as Jimmy applies a sleeper to Luke! There’s a countdown as the time runs out, this one ends a draw.

Result: Time limit draw.

Review: This one is hard to review too as it seemed like an edited down version of the full match. It ends a draw, an unexpected result as I thought the Garvins would win.

Rating: N/A

Barry Windham vs. Incubus – Western States Championship match

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match between these two men.

Great American Bash PPV Record: Barry Windham is 2-0, Incubus makes his debut tonight.

Match: Barry Windham starts the match hot, laying in some right hands and a dropkick. Incubus soon takes control, uses his size and strength but amazingly Windham hits him with a powerslam. Windham misses with an elbow drop and a dropkick and the big man takes his time. Windham fights back and heads to the top, hitting a cross body for the win.

Result: Barry Windham wins by pinfall.

Review: This was pretty poor. It wasn’t Windham’s fault, I just don’t know about this Incubus guy. He doesn’t strike me as much of a wrestler.

Rating: 1/10

Bugsy McGraw & Steve Keirn vs. The Cuban Connection (David Sierra & Ricky Santana)

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match involving these four men.

Great American Bash PPV Record: This match marks a Great American Bash debut for all four men.

Match: The Cuban Connection are in control as we come to this match. Steve Keirn is taking the abuse. He makes a hot tag to Bugsy McGraw who rolls up one of the cuban Connection for the win.

Result: Bugsy McGraw and Steve Keirn win by pinfall.

Review: I can’t review this, it was shocking. Every website I look at claims that this was Bugsy McGraw and Jimmy Valiant but that definitely was not Valiant, it was Steve Keirn.

Rating: N/A

The Rock N Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) vs. The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane)

Previous PPV matches: The Rock N Roll Express are 1-0 against The Midnight Express on big events.

Great American Bash PPV Record: Ricky Morton is 2-1-1, Robert Gibson has won 3 and drawn 1, Bobby Eaton is 0-4 and Stan Lane is 0-2.

Match: This match is already in action with the Rock N Roll Express on top. The Midnight Express take control against Robert Gibson and then we get the miscommunication spot between Bobby and Stan that we’ve seen a lot recently. Jim Cornette then slaps Bobby Eaton. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Bobby Eaton face turn down the line. They all hug for now though allowing Ricky Morton to take control. That is until Jim Cornette uses his tennis racket on Ricky Morton. Stan Lane then uses it too behind the referee’s back. Bobby and Stan keep Ricky away from his partner, making quick tags in a heavily edited match. All hell breaks loose with all four men and then Stan Lane accidentally hits his own partner with the tennis racket. The Midnight Express are disqualified but his Rocky Morton with a spike piledriver after the match.

Result: The Rock N Roll Express win by disqualification.

Review: Another hard match to review due to the footage provided. It’s the same old between these two teams, similar spots, similar result. The Rock N Roll Express are popular and need a decent heel team to come up against at Starrcade. I think it might be Arn and Tully.

Rating: N/A

Mike Rotunda (c) vs. Ivan KoloffFlorida Heavyweight Championship match

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match between these two men.

Great American Bash PPV Record: Ivan Koloff has drawn 1 and lost 2 coming into this match. Mike Rotunda wrestles at this event for the first time.

Match: It’s another edit for this match and it’s Ivan Koloff who takes control early, using his chain. Rotunda gets back into the match briefly but Koloff somehow regains control. Koloff then shoves the referee out of the way, Rotunda rolls up Ivan and gets the three.

Result: Mike Rotunda wins by pinfall.

Review: I can’t really review this match either but it’s a good win for Mike Rotunda.

Kevin Sullivan vs. Dory Funk JrTexas Death Match

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match between these two men.

Great American Bash PPV Record: Both men wrestle at this event for the first time tonight.

Match: The match is already in action and Kevin Sullivan has the upperhand. Sullivan hits a big clothesline and lays into Funk inside and outside of the ring. Dory Funk Jr keeps trying to run away but Sullivan catches him. Sullivan uses a chair on the outside. Sullivan gets distracted by Sir Oliver Humperdink on the outside and chases him around the ring which allows Dory Funk Jr to take the advantage. Kevin Sullivan manages to pin Funk and it’s over. Or were both men down? The crowd are counting so it must be first man up wins. It’s Kevin Sullivan anyway. Kevin Sullivan then pins Oliver Humperdink and the referee counts three. The two men fight through the stadium. I have no idea what’s going on.

Result: Kevin Sullivan wins.

Review: Can’t review this. Sullivan wins. Next.

Dusty Rhodes, Nikita Koloff, Animal, Hawk & Paul Ellering vs. Ric Flair, Lex Luger, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard & War MachineWar Games

Previous PPV matches: With Big Bubba replacing JJ Dillon it means that this is actually a first match involving these ten men.

Great American Bash PPV Record: Dusty Rhodes is 5-0, Nikita Koloff is 1-4, Animal has 4 wins and a draw, Hawk is 3-1-1, Paul Ellering is 1-0, Ric Flair is 3-2, Lex Luger is 1-1, Arn Anderson has 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw, Tully Blanchard is 1-4, War Machine (Big Bubba under a mask) is technically 0-2.

Match: Dusty Rhodes starts the match against Arn Anderson and Dusty hits his trademark jabs and bionic elbow in the early going. Arn is bleeding early but takes control with a low blow. There’s an edit and Rhodes is back in control, looking for a figure four but Arn counters. Dusty hits a low blow of his own. Rhodes applies a figure four but it makes no difference in this match. The referee flips a coin and The Horsemen win which means they get the next man in the match. In goes War Machine who helps Arn beat down Dusty. Rhodes manages a bit of a comeback at the end of this stage as he’s joined by Hawk. Hawk picks up the pace, hitting big powerslams on both Anderson and War Machine. Ric Flair is the next man to enter, giving the Horsemen a 3 on 2 advantage. Hawk manages to double clothesline but Flair and Anderson as War Machine and Dusty go at it in the other ring. Arn piledrives Hawk who no-sells.

Nikita Koloff is the 6th man in the match and he no-sells a piledriver too. Nikita hits Flair with a Russian sickle. Tully Blanchard is next in and he triple teams Dusty with Arn and Flair. Animal is the next man in and he picks up the pace for his team. He dropkicks War Machine and then repeatedly slingshots Tully Blanchard into the cage. Lex Luger is the final man in for his team. This match is just chaos as all nine men go at it. Paul Ellering enters the match to complete the two teams and uses his spiked wristband on Flair. Pretty much everyone is bleeding at this stage. Animal and Nikita double team War Machine. Nikita then beats down Luger as Tully lays out Ellering. Animal then beats down War Machine into submission! War Machine loses it for his team!

Result: Dusty Rhodes, Nikita Koloff and The Legion Of Doom win War Games.

Review: This was another great match but not as good as the first. I did think the Horseman might have won this second match but it wasn’t the case. A similar match to the first and a match that ended in the same way. The Horseman come out of the match looking strong and I expect “War Machine” will vanish as quickly as he arrived.

Rating: 8/10

And that was The Great American Bash 1987 in Miami, Florida. Most of the matches I couldn’t review but I did have two full matches so was able to review them properly. The show opened with Manny Fernandez defeating The Mulkey Brothers. Mulkeymania wan’t running wild tonight and this gave a much needed win to Manny Fernandez. The Garvin “Brothers” then fought The Sheepherders to a time limit draw. Two solid tag teams here and a time limit draw may just have been the right result. Barry Windham beat Incubus in a terrible match. I don’t know who Incubus is but I’d be happy to never see him wrestle again. Bugsy McGraw and Steve Keirn defeated The Cuban Connection in a thrwoaway tag team match.

The Rock N Roll Express beat The Midnight Express by disqualification. This is a similar finish that they had been running throughout this tour and it means neither team come out of the match looking too bad. Mike Rotunda beat Ivan Koloff to retain the Florida Heavyweight Championship and Kevin Sullivan beat Dory Funk Jr in a Texas Death match. I couldn’t review any of these matches due to them not being the full match. But I could review War Games which was another really good match. I don’t think it was as good as the previous War Games match on this tour. It did have the same finish though with War Machine (Big Bubba) in there to submit for his team.
