Welcome everybody to the fourth of my rebooking series, this time I’m rebooking Wrestlemania 4. This show is different to any Wrestlemania in history in that it is headlined by a 14 man tournament to crown a new WWF Champion. I’m going to dig deep into this one as I feel there were some dream matches that we didn’t get to see. Let’s see how the show went down.

Now let’s have a look at who the babyface and heel rosters were.
Babyfaces: Bam Bam Bigelow, Barry Horrowitz, Brutus Beefcake, Don Muraco, George Steele, Hillbilly Jim, Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts, Jim Duggan, Jim Powers, Junkyard Dog, Ken Patera, Koko B. Ware, Lanny Poffo, Paul Roma, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, Sam Houston, S.D. Jones, The Ultimate Warrior
Babyface Tag Teams: The Killer Bees, The British Bulldogs, The Rougeaus, Strike Force
Heels: Andre The Giant, Bad News Brown, Bobby Heenan, Butch Reed, Danny Davis, Dino Bravo, Greg Valentine, Honky Tonk Man, Harley Race, Hercules, One Man Gang, Rick Rude, Ron Bass, Sika, Steve Lombardi, Ted DiBiase, The Iron Sheik, Virgil
Heel Tag Teams: The Hart Foundation, Demolition, The Islanders, The Bolsheviks
So with that roster in mind, let’s go to the rebooking of Wrestlemania IV.
20 Man Battle Royal
Original Wrestlemania Match: This match was the opener of Wrestlemania IV and I am keeping in as the opener. I have made a small personnel change, taking out Harley Race and Junkyard Dog, replacing them with Greg Valentine and Don Muraco. The other 18 men in this match were: Bad News Brown, The Bolsheviks (Nikolai Volkoff and Boris Zhukov), The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart), The Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair and Jim Brunzell), Danny Davis, George Steele, Hillbilly Jim, The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques and Raymond), The Young Stallions (Paul Roma and Jim Powers), Ken Patera, Ron Bass, Sam Houston, and Sika.
Booking: I liked the booking of this match, it gave Bad News Brown a big victory whilst also putting over Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart as a babyface tag team. I would keep the result exactly the same with Bad News Brown eliminating Bret Hart to win the match. The other two men in the final four would be Don Muraco and Jacques Rougeau.
Result: Bad News Brown wins.
Ted DiBiase vs. Jim Duggan – First Round Tournament Match
Original Wrestlemania Match: This match is the same as what was actually booked at Wrestlemania.
Booking: This was a decent first round match between two men with a lot of history, dating back to Mid-South Wrestling. Ted DiBiase stays as the winner in this one.
Result: Ted DiBiase wins the match.
Ricky Steamboat vs. Dino Bravo – First Round Tournament Match
Original Wrestlemania Match: Originally Ricky Steamboat fell to Greg Valentine in the first round and Dino Bravo lost to Don Muraco.
Booking: This is the second match in the bracket, with the winner going on to face Ted DiBiase ion the next round. Ricky Steamboat may have been on his way out of the company at this time but he was still over as anything as a babyface. I think he deserved a win in the first round of this tournament which is why he advances against Dino Bravo on this show.
Result: Ricky Steamboat wins by pinfall.
Rick Rude vs. Jake Roberts – First Round Tournament Match
Original Wrestlemania Match: These two men did meet at Wrestlemania IV, a little later in the show.
Booking: This is the first match of the bottom half of the bracket. At Wrestlemania IV these two men wrestled to a draw but this time Rick Rude wins the match, rolling up Jake Roberts and pulling the tights. In this slot it would have been Greg Valentine advancing to face Randy Savage in the next round but I feel that Rick Rude is a much stronger opponent.
Result: Rick Rude wins by pinfall.
Randy Savage vs. Butch Reed – First Round Tournament Match
Original Wrestlemania Match: Randy Savage v Butch Reed
Booking: This match is exactly the same as the match that took place at Wrestlemania. A solid opponent for Randy Savage to get a victory over in the first round.
Result: Randy Savage wins by pinfall.
One Man Gang vs. Bam Bam Bigelow – First Round Tournament Match
Original Wrestlemania Match: One Man Gang v Bam Bam Bigelow
Booking: This match is the same as the first time round with One Man Gang getting the win and then a bye to the semi-finals. It makes sense to move him into that slot, he would be the last man Randy Savage would want to fight after wrestling two matches already. Especially with One Man Gang being so fresh.
Result: One Man Gang wins by count out.
Harley Race vs. The Junkyard Dog – First Round Tournament Match
Original Wrestlemania Match: So originally these two men were involved in the battle royal. I’ve shuffled some matches around and have added these two men to the World Championship tournament as I feel they have that star quality, more so at this point than the two men they have replace din the tournament, Don Muraco and Greg Valentine.
Booking: This match essentially replaces Jake Roberts vs. Rick Rude as the match that goes to a time limit draw. These two men did have a match at the previous years Wrestlemania but I wouldn’t be against see a rematch between the two. This match goes the distance with no decisive winner allowing One Man Gang to progress to the semi finals.
Result: Time limit draw.
Ultimate Warrior vs. Hercules
Original Wrestlemania Match: This match stays the same as what was booked at Wrestlemania IV.
Booking: Yeah, this one goes down the same. A power vs. power match which results in a big win for The Ultimate Warrior.
Result: Ultimate Warrior wins by pinfall.
Hulk Hogan v Andre The Giant – Quarter-final tournament match
Original Wrestlemania Match: This is of course the match that went down at Wrestlemania IV.
Booking: This match made a lot of sense at Wrestlemania. Both ken got the bye to the quarter final and they would both go out due to it ending in a draw. It was a good way to knock out two of the favourites to win the tournament.
Result: Double disqualification.
Ted DiBiase v Ricky Steamboat – Quarter-final tournament match
Original Wrestlemania Match: Originally this quarter final pitted Ted DiBiase against Don Muraco.
Booking: I like the star power in this match and it feels like a match up between two huge stars of the 80’s that I have never seen. Steamboat was on his way out of the company at this point so would have had to lose clean to DiBiase who advanced to the final due to the draw between Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant.
Result: Ted DiBiase wins by pinfall.
Randy Savage v Rick Rude – Quarter-final tournament match
Original Wrestlemania Match: In the quarter finals Randy Savage beat Greg Valentine.
Booking: Much like the previous match, this is a match I would have loved to have seen at this point in time and a match I have never seen before. With Savage going all the way in this tournament I don’t think it hurts Rick Rude too much and gives Rude a good story to get involved with the World Champion. This would have been a closely contested match though with Rude taking Randy to the limit.
Result: Randy Savage wins by pinfall.
Honky Tonk Man (c) vs. Brutus Beefcake – Intercontinental Championship match
Original Wrestlemania Match: This was the match that took place at Wrestlemania.
Booking: I would keep this match exactly the same as how it went down originally.
Result: Brutus Beefcake defeats Honky Tonk Man by disqualification.
The Islanders (Tama & Haku) & Bobby Heenan v The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & The Dynamite Kid) & Koko B Ware
Original Wrestlemania Match: This match stays the same as the original.
Booking: I could take or leave this match but I think it’s a good use of all six men at Wrestlemania. I’m also tempted to change the result but I think it was a bit of a shocker and I don’t mind that. It’s fun for Bobby Heenan to get a big win too.
Result: The Islanders & Bobby Heenan win by pinfall.
Randy Savage v One Man Gang – Semi-final tournament match
Original Wrestlemania Match: This replicates what went down at Wrestlemania.
Booking: I kept this match the same as I like that Randy Savage, having beaten two touch opponents in Butch Reed and Rick Rude gets an even tougher looking opponent in the semi-finals. One Man Gang was a decent heel at the time and although he never made it to the top level, he was a good foe for the main event babyfaces. This match goes down exactly as it did at Wrestlemania.
Result: Randy Savage wins by pinfall.
Strike Force (Tito Santana & Rick Martel) (c) vs. Demolition (Ax & Smash) – Tag Team Championship match
Original Wrestlemania Match: This match doesn’t change from Wrestlemania.
Booking: Again, I enjoyed this match and it made a lot of booking sense. Strike Force had been tag team champions for a while and Demolition were really over at the time and the title switch made a lot of sense too.
Result: Demolition win the tag team championships by pinfall.
Randy Savage v Ted DiBiase – Tournament final for the vacant WWF World Heavyweight Championship
Original Wrestlemania Match: As we all know, the final for the tournament was Randy Savage vs. Ted DiBiase.
Booking: I can’t fault the booking for this match. It was chaotic, it was fun, it was slightly overshadowed by Hulk Hogan but it made for a great final and the beginning of one of the most memorable title reigns in WWE history. I would keep everything here exactly the same.
Result: Randy Savage wins by pinfall.
