Welcome everybody to the eighth of my rebooking series, this time I’m rewriting Wrestlemania 8. This show had a smaller card then previous years with only nine matches. But there are a lot of ways this show can be improved and I’m going to go through how I would rebook this card.
First let’s look at how the show was booked.
| Results | Stipulations |
|---|---|
| Shawn Michaels (with Sensational Sherri) defeated Tito Santana | Singles match |
| The Undertaker (with Paul Bearer) defeated Jake Roberts | Singles match |
| Bret Hart defeated Roddy Piper (c) | Singles match for the WWF Intercontinental Championship |
| Big Boss Man, Virgil, Sgt. Slaughter, and Jim Duggan defeated The Mountie, The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags), and Repo Man (with Jimmy Hart) | Eight-man tag team match |
| Randy Savage (with Miss Elizabeth) defeated Ric Flair (c) (with Mr. Perfect) | Singles match for the WWF Championship |
| Tatanka defeated Rick Martel | Singles match |
| The Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon) defeated Money Inc. (Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster) (c) (with Jimmy Hart) by countout | Tag team match for the WWF Tag Team Championship |
| Owen Hart defeated Skinner | Singles match |
| Hulk Hogan defeated Sid Justice (with Harvey Wippleman) by disqualification | Singles match |
So there are a few good matches on there and a few bad ones. Let’s take a look at the roster available at the time. Bearing in mind the likes of The Ultimate Warrior, Texas Tornado and Road Warriors were all suspended at the time.
Faces: Big Boss Man, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Jim Duggan, Koko B. Ware, Owen Hart, Randy Savage, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Sgt Slaughter, The British Bulldog, The Undertaker, Tatanka, Tito Santana, Virgil
Face Tag Teams: The Bushwhackers, The Natural Disasters
Heels: Colonel Mustafa, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Papa Shango, Repo Man, Ric Flair, Rick Martel, Shawn Michaels, Sid Justice, Skinner, The Berzerker, The Mountie
Heel Tag Teams: Money Inc, The Beverly Brothers, The Nasty Boys
With that roster in mind, let’s get to rebooking.

The British Bulldog vs. Shawn Michaels
Original Wrestlemania Match: Shawn Michaels vs. El Matador. The British Bulldog’s match with The Bezerker was actually cut from the show due to time constraints.
Booking: At this point in time we have here two of the brightest stars on the roster. Shawn Michaels is making a name for himself as one of the best young in-ring workers in the company whilst The British Bulldog is one of the biggest babyface stars. It’s criminal that his match was cut but a match between these two would not be. Shawn Michaels is being groomed as a future star and he gets the win tonight with a pull of the tights.
Result: Shawn Michaels wins by pinfall.

The Undertaker vs. Sid Justice
Original Wrestlemania Match: The Undertaker vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Sid Justice vs. Hulk Hogan.
Booking: This would have been a bit of a dream match at the time with two of the largest stars on the roster going toe to toe. Obviously in a few years time we would actually get this match at Wrestlemania but in the weeks following Wrestlemania 8 these two would actually meet on the house show loops. I had actually booked The Undertaker vs. Jake Roberts in m y Wrestlemania 7 rebooking so we wouldn’t want it on back to back years. The Undertaker does have a Wrestlemania streak to get to so he takes this win.
Result: The Undertaker wins by pinfall.

Rowdy Roddy Piper (c) vs. Bret Hart – Intercontinental Championship match
Original Wrestlemania Match: Rowdy Roddy Piper vs. Bret Hart.
Booking: This is the first of three matches that I decided to keep as it was. The story behind this match was perfectly crafted and they went on to have a fantastic match. There’s no need to change the booking here, it was perfect.
Result: Bret Hart wins by pinfall.

Big Boss Man, Sgt Slaughter, El Matador & Jim Duggan, vs. Skinner, The Mountie, Repo Man & The Berzerker
Original Wrestlemania Match: Big Boss Man, Jim Duggan, Sgt Slaughter & Virgil vs. The Mountie, Repo Man & The Nasty Boys.
Booking: I liked this match as an eight man tag to get eight of the lower carders on the show The likes of Big Boss Man, Jim Duggan and Sgt Slaughter are on their way down the card but are still big enough names to deserve a place on the card. I actually replaced Virgil with El Matador and took out The Nasty Boys for Skinner and The Berzerker.
Result: Big Boss Man, Jim Duggan, Sgt Slaughter & El Matador win by pinfall.

Tatanka vs. Rick Martel
Original Wrestlemania Match: Tatanka vs. Rick Martel
Booking: This match stays the same as happened. The two had a lot of chemistry and the build was good too. No changes to this one.
Result: Tatanka wins by pinfall.

Money Inc (c) vs. The Natural Disasters – Tag Team Championship match
Original Wrestlemania Match: Money Inc vs. The Natural Disasters.
Booking: This is the third and final match that stays the same as what happened. At this point The Legion Of Doom were suspended and unable to face Money Inc for the titles so in step The Natural Disasters, a larger than life team capable of squashing the tag team champions. As it happened, they did win the match but only by count out. A finish that actually makes sense in this instance.
Result: The Natural Disasters win by countout.

Macho Man Randy Savage vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts
Original Wrestlemania Match: Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair, Jake Roberts vs. The Undertaker.
Booking: Randy Savage and Jake Roberts had a rivalry that raged through 1991, bringing Savage out of retirement. Roberts crashed the wedding party of Savage and Miss Elizabeth and later his snake would bite Randy on the arm. They may have met at This Tuesday In Texas but I feel their rivalry deserved a blowoff on the grandest stage of them all. Randy gets the win, putting an end to this feud once and for all.
Result: Randy Savage wins by pinfall.

High Energy (Owen Hart & Koko B. Ware) vs. The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Saggs)
Original Wrestlemania Match: Owen Hart vs. Skinner, The Nasty Boys were in the aforementioned eight man tag team match.
Booking: This match feels like it could be a fun one before we get into the main event. Owen Hart beat Skinner at the real event but this match would be better. It also gets Koko B. Ware on the card. He and Owen were tagging around this time. But if there’s one thing this show need, it’s another heel win. The Nasty Boys pick up the win tonight but it’d be far from clean.
Result: The Nasty Boys win by pinfall.

Ric Flair (c) vs. Hulk Hogan – WWF Championship match
Original Wrestlemania Match: Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan vs. Sid Justice
Booking: There is no bigger wrestling match in the world at this time than one between these two men. Ric Flair is the biggest heel in the world, Hulk Hogan is the biggest babyface. Ric Flair goes into this the World Heavyweight Champion after winning the Royal Rumble, Hulk Hogan is the natural number one contender. Flair is selfless enough to lose the match and put Hogan over so their is only one way this match could go. But it would go down as an all time classic.
Result: Hulk Hogan wins by pinfall.
