A video package kicks things off with some fun animations. Tony Schiavone welcomes us to Beach Blast 92, he’s with Eric Bischoff. They introduce the new man in charge, Bill Watts who talks through tonight’s card. They then throw to Jim Ross, who will be calling it with Jesse Ventura. Ventura is at the top of the entrance ramp which is dressed as a beach with four bikini-clad ladies.
Flyin’ Brian (c) vs. Scotty Flamingo – Light Heavyweight Championship match
Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match between these two men.
Match: There’s some nice chain wrestling in the early going. Pillman uses his speed to wrestle circles around Flamingo. He dominates for a long time and takes the fight to the outside where he hits a double axe handle. Brian then heads to the top but Flamingo launches him off. New rules would’ve dictated a disqualification if Pillman would’ve jumped off the top. Scotty takes control, sending Pillman out of the ring and diving out at him. It’s then back and forth between the two men but Pillman is a pace behind. Flamingo misses with a splash in the corner but goes to the chinlock. Pillman starts to fire up, picking up the pace and clotheslining Flamingo onto the ramp. Brian then looks for a dive to the outside but Flamingo moves and Pillman goes face first into the ramp. Scotty hits a kneedrop off the second rope and pins Pillman for the three!
Result: Scotty Flamingo wins the Light Heavyweight Championship by pinfall.
Review: This was a really good way to kick off the show. It had a good pace to it and the psychology was great too. I was actually surprised to see Scotty Flamingo win the belt though, that has come from nowhere. Pillman can go onwards and upwards now though and really start to make waves in the company. Good match to kick things off tonight.

Johnny B. Badd is out next to MC the bikini contest between Madusa and Missy Hyatt.. He explains that the contest will be split up into three parts. The evening dress, bathing suit and bikini. Missy Hyatt is out first in a pretty conservative dress. Madusa is out next in a wedding dress.
We’re told that Vader will challenge Sting for the World Heavyweight Championship at The Great American Bash.
Ron Simmons vs. The Taylor Made Man
Previous PPV matches: This is a first PPV match between these two men.
Match: This match quickly goes to the outside where Ron Simmons military presses Taylor back in before clotheslining him right back out. Simmons uses his power and then applies a bear hug. Taylor takes control with a jawbreaker but Simmons gets back into it with a spinebuster. Ron hits a big powerslam and it’s all over.
Result: Ron Simmons wins by pinfall.
Review: A pretty basic match here designed to give Ron Simmons a big victory. Terry Taylor was the right man to do the job, it elevates Ron Simmons above the midcard. There was nothing spectacular in this match but it wasn’t terrible.
Rating: 4/10
Jim Ross interviews Ron Simmons after the match and Simmons gives a positive speech about race and working hard.
Marcus Alexander Bagwell vs. Greg “The Hammer” Valentine
Previous PPV matches: This is a first time PPV match between these two men.
Match: Marcus Bagwell gets the first few moves in with a dropkick, arm drag and powerslam. Greg gets a shot in and looks for a piledriver but Bagwell counters with a back body drop. Valentine takes control and slowly wears Bagwell down with right hands and a backbreaker. He then looks for an elbow off the middle rope but Bagwell moves. Valentine avoids a knee drop in this back and forth match. Valentine works the leg of Bagwell and looks for the figure four but Bagwell rolls him up for a two count. Marcus fires up from here, picking up the pace but he tweaks his knee on a leapfrog. Valentine zones in on the knee and applies a figure four, causing Bagwell to submit.
Result: Greg Valentine wins by submission.
Review: An ok match here. The psychology was there, Valentine worked the knee and Bagwell couldn’t overcome the veteran. I’m not sure I would have booked it this way, I’d have given Bagwell a fluke win. A decent win for Valentine though who proves that his career still has legs.

Sting vs. Cactus Jack – Falls count anywhere
Previous PPV matches: This is a first PPV match between these two men.
Match: This match starts on the entrance ramp where Sting takes an early advantage. The crowd are hot in the early going. Cactus soon takes control and hits his trademark elbow drop off the apron. He then hits a sunset flip off the apron for a two count. Sting back body drops Cactus Jack over the railings before smashing him off them. The fight goes back inside the ring where Cactus hits a clothesline. He then hits another clothesline and both men go tumbling to the outside. Cactus Jack lays into Sting with a steel chair and then stun guns him on the barricade. Jack looks for an elbow off the apron but Sting gets out of the way. Sting promised this match would go to the beach, let’s see if it does. The World Heavyweight Champion lays into Cactus with the steel chair and then looks for the scorpion deathlock on the ramp but Cactus slides out. Cactus hits a double armed DDT on the ramp but he’s slow to cover and only gets a two count. Sting hits a big clothesline on the ramp and then heads to the top rope and hits a clothesline for the win!
Result: Sting wins by pinfall.
Review: This was a good match. It was ahead of it’s time, essentially a match that would be common six or seven years later. I don’t know why the title wasn’t on the line, it was a defence for Sting and a match he would have won so it seems crazy not to have made it a title match. Cactus Jack was a good foe for Sting, he wrestles a unique style and the two men had a lot of chemistry.

“Ravishing” Rick Rude vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat – 30 minute iron man match
Previous PPV matches: This is a second WCW PPV match between these two men. Rick Rude won the first at SuperBrawl II.
Match: Paul E. Dangerously and Madusa are banned from ringside for this one. Ricky Steamboat is joined by his wife and son. Steamboat gets the first few shots in, targeting Rick Rude’s ribs. Rude gets some offence in early but it’s mostly Ricky Steamboat who applies a Boston crab but Rude won’t submit. Steamboat hits knee drops, splashes and strikes, continuing to target the ribs of the United States Champion. He then looks for a splash in the corner but Rude gets his knees up. Rude then pins Steamboat, pulling the tights and getting the three count for the first fall of the contest, eight minutes in. Rick Rude hits a Rude awakening and pins Steamboat for another pinfall, quickly going 2-0 up! Rick Rude goes to the top and hits a kneedrop but by the new laws that is a disqualification! Ricky Steamboat gets a fall back by DQ. Rick Rude follows it up with a quick pinfall to go 3-1 up.
Rick Rude leads 3-1 as we go into the final 20 minutes. The pace slows down now as Rick Rude applies chinlocks but Steamboat hits an electric chair drop to break it. It’s back and forth between the two men. Rude hits a piledriver for a near fall and then looks for a tombstone piledriver but Steamboat counters it into a tombstone of his own which earns him a pinfall. It’s 3-2 to Rude now with 12 minutes left on the clock. Ricky Steamboat hits a superplex for a near fall. Ten minutes left. Rude attempts a pinfall but Steamboat counters it and gets another fall! It’s all even now. It’s back and forth between the two men who exchange strikes. Steamboat counters a Rude awakening and hits a version of the move himself. Five minutes remaining. Steamboat hits suplexes but can’t keep Rude down for a three count. The United States Champion applies a sleeper and keeps it applied for a long time. The clock ticks down below two minutes and then below one minute. Steamboat starts to fire up with 45 seconds to go. He springboards off the ropes and pins Rude for the three! Ricky Steamboat goes up 4-3! Rick Rude goes mad, doing everything he can to try and keep his challenger down but he can’t!
Result: Ricky Steamboat wins the iron man match 4-3.
Review: This was a fantastic match between two of the best on the roster. Ricky Steamboat gets the win and vengeance for months of physical and verbal abuse from Rick Rude. I really enjoyed this match, it was the perfect way to end this rivalry.

Johnny B. Badd is next with round 2 of the bikini contest. This time it’s the bathing suit. Both girls look amazing, Missy Hyatt is in a two piece and takes the round for me!
Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes & Nikita Koloff vs. The Dangerous Alliance (Arn Anderson, Beautiful Bobby & Stunning Steve Austin)
Previous PPV matches: This is a first time six man tag team match between these six men.
Match: Senior referee Ole Anderson is introduced as the referee for this one. Barry Windham and Steve Austin kick things off for their teams and it’s back and forth. Dustin Rhodes and Bobby Eaton tag in and Eaton takes control. Nikita and Arn are in next and Arn looks to head to the top but Ole warns him about being disqualified. Nikita takes control and takes on all three opponents single handedly. Windham and his former tag team partner Arn Anderson go at it and it’s back and forth. Dustin Rhodes tags in and picks up the pace but the numbers become too much and Stunning Steve takes control. The Dangerous Alliance makes quick tags, keeping Dustin Rhodes from tagging out. Austin hits a stun gun but Rhodes bounces off the ropes and is close enough to tag out to Barry Windham. All hell breaks loose with all six men. Ole doesn’t see Arn come off the top. Windham then hits a superplex on Austin and covers him but Arn comes off the top again and this time Ole sees it and disqualifies the Dangerous Alliance!
Result: Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes and Nikita Koloff win by disqualification.
Review: This was a decent match. Back and forth for a while until Dustin Rhodes was dominated. He made the hot tag and it was all over not long after. A good win for the babyfaces and if there was any doubts that Ole Anderson was there to enforce the rules then they would be cleared up. An alright match here.

Eric Bischoff talks with Ricky Steamboat who wants a shot at the United States Championship. Paul E. Dangerously arrives and tells Steamboat that he has already received his final shot at the United States Championship. Ricky is then blindsided by Cactus Jack! The two men brawl around the stage.
Jesse Ventura joins Johnny B. Badd for the final round of the bikini contest. It’s the itsy bitsy teeny weeny bikini part. Madusa’s bikini isn’t that small. Missy Hyatt claims her bikini was stolen. Missy then comes out wearing “Jesse’s scarfs”. Johnny B. Badd rules Missy Hyatt the winner. Madusa wrestles Johnny B. Badd into the tent and Johnny walk out with the top of Madusa’s bikini. Jesse Ventura walks into the tent and says that Madusa is the First Lady of wrestling, no doubt!
The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott) (c) vs. Dr Death Steve Williams and Terry Gordy – WCW Tag Team Championship match
Previous PPV matches: This is a first time PPV match between these two teams.
Match: Scott Steiner and Terry Gordy kick off the match. It’s back and forth, and hard hitting. That doesn’t change when Dr Death tags in. Rick Steiner tags in and the two former members of the Varsity Club go at it. It’s cagey between the two men but Rick hits a big belly to belly suplex. Doc gets back into it with some football tackles but Rick lays him out with a Steinerline. Terry Gordy and Rick Steiner exchange suplexes. Williams and Gordy take control against Scott Steiner and make frequent tags to stop him from tagging out. These are two hard hitting teams, there’s nothing pretty about this. Dr Death applies a Boston crab but Scott won’t submit, Terry Gordy tags in and applies a half crab and then an STF. Rick Steiner tags in and picks up the pace. He hits a bulldog off the second rope on Williams and knocks Gordy out of the ring.
Scott goes up too but Gordy knocks him off. Dr Death tags Gordy who hits Rick Steiner with a powerslam off the top for a near fall. Gordy and Williams got a double football tackle on Rick for a near fall. Time ticks down on the match as Williams hits a gut wrench powerbomb for a near fall. Two minutes left on the time limit. Dr Death looks for his finisher, the stampede but Rick counters it. Gordy tags on but Steiner drops him with a minute left. Scotty tags in and takes on both opponents. He hits a powerbomb and frankensteiner on Gordy just as the ring bells for a time limit draw!
Result: Time limit draw.
Review: This was an alright match. An old school style, hard hitting and a few submission holds. And challengers dominated but there’s no doubt that these teams will meet again. I was disappointed in the result, nobody wants to see a time limit draw in the main event.
Rating: 6/10
And that was Beach Blast 92. It was a good show to be honest. There were a few nothing matches but most of the show delivered. I really enjoyed the opener between Brian Pillman and Scotty Flamingo, the result really surprised me too. I didn’t think Scotty Flamingo would be the man to dethrone Flyin’ Brian but there you go. A good opener. Then we had two nothing matches in Ron Simmons beating the Taylor Made Man and then Greg Valentine putting rookie Marcus Alexander Bagwell in his place. Ron Simmons seems to get a lot of wins on PPV but none of the wins really mean anything, like this one. Greg Valentine beating Bagwell doesn’t really do anything for either man. Sting then beat Cactus Jack in a great match but I do not understand why the title wasn’t on the line. Two very different styles but they had a lot of chemistry. Cactus Jack has such a unique style and I think his time in Japan has improved him so much. Sting wins and goes on to face Vader at The Great American Bash.
Ricky Steamboat beat Rick Rude in my favourite match of the night. It was an iron man match with plenty of falls. Again, a non title match so a little bit of interest was waned. But these are another two men who have a lot of chemistry. Ricky Steamboat had to win the match after everything he’s had thrown at him over the past few months. Rick Rude is still United States Champion but I would love to see him against Sting for the World Heavyweight Championship. Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes and Nikita Koloff beat The Dangerous Alliance by disqualification when Arn Anderson came off the top rope. I think this match was just there to demonstrate the new terrible rule. In the main event The Steiner Brothers drew with Dr Death and Terry Gordy. A very disappointing result to an alright mate. Rude and Steamboat should have gone on last. But overall a decent show. Not a single terrible match which is rare for WCW.
Overall Rating: 63.57/100 (ranked 4th out of 31 NWA/WCW PPV’s)
