A video kicks us off. There’s a run-down of tonight’s card which includes an incorrect graphic with Barry Windham and Brian Pillman’s name’s the wrong way round.
Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura welcome us to the show and run down the card again. They then throw to Eric Bischoff who announces that Rick Rude is out for 5 to 7 weeks with a herniated disc and will be replaced tonight by Dr Death Steve Williams.
Tony Schiavone is in the ring with Bill Watts who announces that the winner of the battle bowl will get a ring. Hank Aaron, a baseball player is there to give Sting the ring for winning last years Battle Bowl.
Missy Hyatt and Larry Zbyszko are ready to draw the name for the lethal lottery. But instead we’re going to the match that has already been drawn.
Van Hammer & Dan Spivey vs. Johnny B. Badd & Cactus Jack – lethal lottery match #1

Match: Cactus Jack and Van Hammer kick things off for their teams. Hammer takes the early advantage which continues against Johnny B. Badd. Johnny B. Badd hits a hurricanrana, dropping Van Hammer on the top of his head. Dan Spivey tags in and takes control against Johnny B. Badd. It’s back and forth between the two teams for a while. Cactus Jack and Dan Spivey get into it, it’s back and forth between those two men. Johnny B. Baddb reaks up a pinfall but accidentally nails Cactus. Cactus Jack isn’t happy so Johnny B. Badd nails him with a right hand. Van Hammer rolls him up and gets the three!
Result: Van Hammer and Dan Spivey win by pinfall.
Review: The psychology was good in this match but it wasn’t a classic. I enjoyed it though, there was a fun dynamic. I didn’t think Spivey and Van Hammer would win to be honest, I thought the other team would. I don’t think either of them win the Battle Bowl though.

It’s time to make the draw for the next round. It’s going to be Dustin Rhodes and Big Van Vader, they’ll be against Kensuke Sasaki and The Barbarian.
Dustin Rhodes & Big Van Vader, vs. Kensuke Sasaki & The Barbarian – lethal lottery match #2
Starrcade PPV Record: Dustin Rhodes is is 1-1, Vader is 1-1, The Barbarian is 0-2 and Kensuke Sasaki wrestles at this event for the first time tonight.
Match: Vader and The Barbarian kick off the match and the two men battle to get the other down. Impressively, Barbarian powerslams Vader. It’s not long before Vader returns the favour. Rhodes and Sasaki tag in and they don’t pull any punches either. Vader tags back in and takes control with some high impact moves. Sasaki counters a suplex with one of his own and both men tag out. Rhodes gets a very near fall following a clothesline. Barbarian accidentally nails Sasaki and Dustin rolls up Barbarian for the three. So a similar finish to the previous match. After the match Vader nails Rhodes, taking out his partner.
Result: Vader and Dustin Rhodes win by pinfall.
Review: This was another fun match between two disjointed tag teams. There was no chemistry but it was a good watch. Vader and Dustin Rhodes get the predictable win.

It’s time for another lethal lottery draw. Barry Windham and The Great Muta will be teaming against Too Cold Scorpio and Brian Pillman.

Starrcade PPV Record: Barry Windham is 1-1-1, The Great Muta is 2-4, Brian Pillman is 0-1 and Scorpio wrestles at this event for the first time tonight.
Match: Barry Windham and Too Cold Scorpio kick things off. The Great Muta quickly tags in and we get some nice chain wrestling between Muta and both of his opponents. Windham tags in and we get a little bit of physical interaction between Pillman and Windham, two men tagging up later. Muta tags in and hits a big kick on Pillman. Both men tag in and Windham dominates against Scorpio. We then get a double dropkick from Windham and Muta. Windham hits a DDT on Scorpio and Muta follows it up with a moonsault for the win. After the match Pillman checked on Scorpio but Windham drags him away.
Result: Barry Windham and The Great Muta win by pinfall.
Review: This match was ok, it feels like more of the same really. Nothing special. The Great Muta is so good, not that everyone else in this match isn’t good too.

Time to find out who teams with Sting. It’s Dr Death Steve Williams. They’ll meet Eric Watts and Jushin Thunder Liger.
Sting & Dr Death Steve Williams vs. Eric Watts & Jushin Thunder Liger – lethal lottery match #4
Starrcade PPV Record: Sting is 6-1-1, Dr Death is 2-0, Jushin Thunder Liger is 1-1 and Eric Watts wrestles at this event for the first time tonight.
Match: Sting and Jushin Liger kick things off. Two popular babyfaces. Both men make tags and Watts hits a couple of bad arm drags. There’s plenty of tags in this one. Sting and Dr Death dominate for a while. Sting applies a half Boston crab as he and Williams keep Liger from tagging out. Watts eventually gets the hot tag and looks to apply an STF to Dr Death but he gets to the ropes. Williams then drops Watts on the top rope and pins him for the three!
Result: Sting and Dr Death win by pinfall.
Review: This match wasn’t bad to be fair. There were some good workers in this one. It was very predictable though, it had to be Sting and Williams that won. They will both wrestle three matches tonight though.

Masahiro Chono (c) vs. The Great Muta – NWA Heavyweight Championship match
Match: Chono dominates in the early going causing Muta to step out of the ring. Chono continues to dominate to a slow pace. Muta fires back with a submission of his own. It goes back to Chono though who applies a wristlock and then an armbar. Muta hits a superplex and then applies an Indian deathlock. Muta hits a handspring elbow and some karate kicks. Chono avoids a moonsault and hits a German suplex. Chono applies an STF and Muta submits.
Result: Masahiro Chono wins by submission.
Review: This was a slow match. Muta matches are usually a much faster pace but this one was more of Chono’s pace. It was a little disappointing. Chono remains NWA Champion.
Rating: 3/10
Rick Rude walks out, furious that he’s been signed off because of injury and may have to relinquish his US title. Rude points out that they didn’t strip Sting of his title when he was injured.
