Another 5 Pay Per Views down and another stat pack! This is the third stat pack so far and will be covering every PPV of the 1980’s as well as the 1990 Royal Rumble show. So 15 PPVs in all from the original Wrestlemania to Royal Rumble 1990. 

The last stat pack I did was just after Survivor Series 1988. Since then we’ve had two Royal Rumbles, Wrestlemania V, a Summerslam and a Survivor Series. Summerslam and Wrestlemania gave everyone a showcase to put out their best matches whilst the other three pay per views were full of multi man matches which didn’t give the top wrestlers a spotlight. 

When the last stat pack was posted “Macho Man” Randy Savage was World Heavyweight champion. Since then he has turned heel on his best friend and tag team partner in the Mega-Powers, Hulk Hogan. Hogan promptly won the World title back at Wrestlemania and since then  Savage has slowly been phased out of the World title picture and has been replaced by the likes of Zeus and The Ultimate Warrior. 

The Intercontinental Championship still belongs to The Ultimate Warrior who is slowly becoming the biggest babyface in the WWE, but he did lost the title briefly to “Ravishing” Rick Rude before winning it back at Summerslam. Demolition lost their tag team title to TheBrainbusters but won them back a few months later before losing them to The Colossal Connection of Andre The Giant and Haku. 

Which just about brings us up to date. It’s probably worth noting that since the last stat pack we’ve had PPV debuts for The Bushwhackers, “Rugged” Ronnie Garvin, Dusty Rhodes, Zeus, Earthquake, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and The Genius.

The Royal Rumble and Survivor Series PPV dominate the top 5. I guess I love me a multiman match. Never the less, the last five PPV’s of 1989 and 1990 have greatly affected the above lists and 1989 has shot right to the top of the best years so far. I think it goes to show how much WWE improved the more they experimented. Match were laid out differently and entertainment became paramount.

This list is full of guys that debuted on the first three pay per views. Hogan tops the list having only not wrestled on one show (Royal Rumble 1988) whilst Tito Santana has only missed two. The rest have wrestled on every show barring three which is still a great feat. There are a few guys that have dropped off this list since the last stat pack because they haven’t wrestled since, those being Nikolai Volkoff, Don Muraco, Ricky Steamboat and JYD.

Randy Savage tops the list due to his success in the tournaments at Wrestling Classic and Wrestlemania V. This list makes for very interesting reading. Mr T and The Jumping Bomb Angels stay top having had two matches and won them both. On the last stat pack they were joined by Bobby Heenan and The Powers of Pain but both have had bad records since then and have fell off completely. Hogan, Savage, Steamboat, Warrior and Tama all stay on the list even though Warrior and Savage’s win percentage has dropped. Dusty Rhodes and Mr Perfect are two new entries who have both won two thirds of their matches and the list is made up with Billy Jack Haynes who has only had two matches but won one and drew one. This stat pack marks the lowest percentage to make it onto this list.

In the last stat pack only 3 wins were required to make it onto the top wins list. Five pay per views later and only one more win was needed. Much like the last stat pack Randy Savage tops the bill, Hogan now follows having leapfrogged Steamboat. Warrior and JYD continue to make up the top 5. Andre The Giant and Dynamite Kid drop off the most wins list but are replaced by Mr Perfect, Demolition, Dino Bravo, Jim Duggan and Brutus Beefcake whilst Roberts keeps his place at joint 5th. Beefcake also makes it onto the most draws list, leapfrogging Orndorff and Muraco to the top after draws with Ted Dibiase and The Genius. Andre actually drops from the most wins to the most losses list. Jake Roberts is the only man to feature on the most wins and most losses list, figure that one out. Volkoff keeps his place on the most losses list even though he hasn’t fought since the last stat pack. George Gray also features on the list under both of his monikers.

There are five new entries to this list. Savage and Steamboat still top the list but being a sucker for a Royal Rumble match has meant that the 1990 and 1989 matches have entered into the top 3. Hogan and Andre drops down to 4th, joint with the Warrior/Rude match from Summerslam. Hogan and Savages Wrestlemania match also appears on this list as does the Survivor Series match captained by Dusty Rhodes and Big Boss Man in 1989. Hogans tag team main events at the first Wrestlemania and Summerslam 88 also stay on the list.

This list tends to look different every time I do it. The only guys to have remained on this list from last time are Hulk Hogan, Ron Bass and Roddy Piper. The Rockers, Powers of Pain and Brain Busters all feature on here showing how good tag team wrestling was at this point. Oddly Earthquake tops the list basically because he was in a good Survivor Series match in 89 and a decent Royal Rumble in 1990. Dusty Rhodes and The Red Rooster also feature in the top three. It’s probably worth mentioning that the gap between 1st and 10th is bigger than it was last time.

This is a brand new category exclusive to this Stat Pack. It’s a formula that I have devised that takes into consideration matches had an won, main events and match ratings to create a top 10 of the most important guys in the WWE up to now. Hogan unsuprisingly topped it followed by Savage. Andre and Dibiase have also been very important to the business and them with Wrestlemania main eventer Paul Orndorff make up the top 5. Geroge Gray is a bit of a suprise to be in at number 6 whilst main eventers Piper, Warrior, Bundy and Haku make up the top 10.

This is mainly based on pay per view defences. Hogan sits atop the list after holding his title for four years. Demolition had a couple of great defences against The Hart Foundation and The Powers Of Pain. There isn’t much between the Intercontinental title reigns and it wouldn’t take much to knock them off the list.

Much like the last stat pack Miss Elizabeth tops the list and is followed by half a dozen managers with a 50% success rate. It’s amazing that it only takes a 50% win record to get into the top 2. It seems that managers don’t have a lot of success on the whole unless you’re managing The Macho Man. If you were wondering where some of the more well known managers are, you’ll probably see them on the next list.

There they are, Jimmy Hart, Slick and Bobby Heenan, three of the best managers ever but their clients all lost the majority of their matches. Bob Orton and Humperdink managed Roddy Piper and Bam Bam Bigelow respectively and couldn’t manage them to any wins. Jimmy, Slicks and Heenans loss percentage all got higher since the last stat pack but Slick did manage to leapfrog Heenan.
