Another 5 Pay Per Views down and another stat pack! This is the third stat pack so far and will be covering every PPV of the 1980’s as well as the 1990 Royal Rumble show. So 15 PPVs in all from the original Wrestlemania to Royal Rumble 1990.
The last stat pack I did was just after Survivor Series 1988. Since then we’ve had two Royal Rumbles, Wrestlemania V, a Summerslam and a Survivor Series. Summerslam and Wrestlemania gave everyone a showcase to put out their best matches whilst the other three pay per views were full of multi man matches which didn’t give the top wrestlers a spotlight.
When the last stat pack was posted “Macho Man” Randy Savage was World Heavyweight champion. Since then he has turned heel on his best friend and tag team partner in the Mega-Powers, Hulk Hogan. Hogan promptly won the World title back at Wrestlemania and since then Savage has slowly been phased out of the World title picture and has been replaced by the likes of Zeus and The Ultimate Warrior.
The Intercontinental Championship still belongs to The Ultimate Warrior who is slowly becoming the biggest babyface in the WWE, but he did lost the title briefly to “Ravishing” Rick Rude before winning it back at Summerslam. Demolition lost their tag team title to TheBrainbusters but won them back a few months later before losing them to The Colossal Connection of Andre The Giant and Haku.
Which just about brings us up to date. It’s probably worth noting that since the last stat pack we’ve had PPV debuts for The Bushwhackers, “Rugged” Ronnie Garvin, Dusty Rhodes, Zeus, Earthquake, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and The Genius.

Year Ranking
1. 1989 (50.5)
2. 1987 (47)
3. 1988 (46)
4. 1985 (40.5)
5. 1986 (39.5)
The Royal Rumble and Survivor Series PPV dominate the top 5. I guess I love me a multiman match. Never the less, the last five PPV’s of 1989 and 1990 have greatly affected the above lists and 1989 has shot right to the top of the best years so far. I think it goes to show how much WWE improved the more they experimented. Match were laid out differently and entertainment became paramount.
Most Pay Per View Appearances
1. Hulk Hogan (14)
2. Tito Santana (13)
3= Andre The Giant (12)
3= Bret “Hitman” Hart (12)
3= Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake (12)
3= Greg “The Hammer” Valentine (12)
3= Hercules (12)
3= Jake “The Snake” Roberts (12)
3= Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (12)
3= “Macho Man” Randy Savage (12)
This list is full of guys that debuted on the first three pay per views. Hogan tops the list having only not wrestled on one show (Royal Rumble 1988) whilst Tito Santana has only missed two. The rest have wrestled on every show barring three which is still a great feat. There are a few guys that have dropped off this list since the last stat pack because they haven’t wrestled since, those being Nikolai Volkoff, Don Muraco, Ricky Steamboat and JYD.
Most Pay Per View Matches
1. “Macho Man” Randy Savage (18)
2= Hulk Hogan (14)
2= Tito Santana (14)
4. Greg “The Hammer” Valentine (13)
5= Andre The Giant (12)
5= Bret “Hitman” Hart (12)
5= Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake (12)
5= Hercules (12)
5= Jake “The Snake” Roberts (12)
5= Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (12)
This list is made up of the same ten guys as the last one, just in a slightly different order. Randy Savage tops the list due to his success in the tournaments at Wrestling Classic and Wrestlemania V. Tito Santana and Greg Valentine also get a couple of extra marks because of second round tournament matches. The rest is the same as the last list.
Highest Win Percentage (Minimum 2 matches)
1= Mr T 100% (2 matches)
1= The Jumping Bomb Angels 100% (2 matches)
3. Hulk Hogan 78.5% (14 matches)
4. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat 77.7% (7 matches)
5. “Macho Man” Randy Savage 66.6% (18 matches)
6. Mr Perfect 66.6% (6 matches)
7= Dusty Rhodes 66.6% (3 matches)
7= Tama 66.6% (3 matches)
9. Ultimate Warrior 62.5% (8 matches)
10. Billy Jack Haynes 50% (2 matches)
This list makes for very interesting reading. Mr T and The Jumping Bomb Angels stay top having had two matches and won them both. On the last stat pack they were joined by Bobby Heenan and The Powers of Pain but both have had bad records since then and have fell off completely. Hogan, Savage, Steamboat, Warrior and Tama all stay on the list even though Warrior and Savage’s win percentage has dropped. Dusty Rhodes and Mr Perfect are two new entries who have both won two thirds of their matches and the list is made up with Billy Jack Haynes who has only had two matches but won one and drew one. This stat pack marks the lowest percentage to make it onto this list.

5= Mr Perfect (4)
5= Demolition (4)
5= Dino Bravo (4)
5= “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan (4)
5= Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake (4)

1. Tito Santana (11)
2= Hercules (10)
2= Greg “The Hammer” Valentine (10)
4= The Hart Foundation (9)
4= Honky Tonk Man (9)
6= The Fabulous Rougeaus (8)
6= Andre The Giant (8)
8= Jake “The Snake” Roberts (7)
8= Nikolai Volkoff (7)
8= George Gray (One Man Gang/Akeem) (7)
In the last stat pack only 3 wins were required to make it onto the top wins list. Five pay per views later and only one more win was needed. Much like the last stat pack Randy Savage tops the bill, Hogan now follows having leapfrogged Steamboat. Warrior and JYD continue to make up the top 5. Andre The Giant and Dynamite Kid drop off the most wins list but are replaced by Mr Perfect, Demolition, Dino Bravo, Jim Duggan and Brutus Beefcake whilst Roberts keeps his place at joint 5th. Beefcake also makes it onto the most draws list, leapfrogging Orndorff and Muraco to the top after draws with Ted Dibiase and The Genius. Andre actually drops from the most wins to the most losses list. Jake Roberts is the only man to feature on the most wins and most losses list, figure that one out. Volkoff keeps his place on the most losses list even though he hasn’t fought since the last stat pack. George Gray also features on the list under both of his monikers.
Highest Loss Percentage (minimum 2 matches)
1= Koko B Ware 100% (6 matches)
1= Shawn Michaels 100% (6 matches)
1= Marty Jannetty 100% (6 matches)
4= Boris Zhukov 100% (5 matches)
4= “The Outlaw” Ron Bass 100% (5 matches)
6= Ken Patera 100% (4 matches)
7= Sam Houston 100% (3 matches)
7= “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka 100% (3 matches)
7= Leilani Kai 100% (3 matches)
7= Judy Martin 100% (3 matches)
Everybody on this list has a 100% loss record on pay per view. Koko B Ware now tops the list alongside new entries Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty who can’t seem to get a win for love nor money. Jimmy Snuka enters the list for the first time having lost all three of his pay per view matches since returning.
Most Main Events
1. Hulk Hogan (10)
2. “Macho Man” Randy Savage (6)
3. Andre The Giant (4)
4= “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase (3)
4= “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff (3)
5= Rowdy Roddy Piper (2)
5= George Gray (Akeem/One Man Gang) (2)
5= Haku (2)
5= King Kong Bundy (2)
This is very much the same as the last stat pack with Hogan topping the list with Savage behind him. Andre adds another main event to his list at Survivor Series to sit in third. The rest don’t move except for new entry Haku who also added another main event to his CV at Survivor Series 89.
Top Rated Matches
1. Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat – Wrestlemania III (8.5/10)
2. The 1990 Royal Rumble Match (8/10)
3. The 1989 Royal Rumble Match (7.75/10)
4= Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant – Wrestlemania III (7.5/10)
4= The Ultimate Warrior vs. Rick Rude – Summerslam 1990 (7.5/10)
6= Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage – Wrestlemania V (7.25/10)
6= The Dream Team vs. The Enforcers – Survivor Series 1989 (7.25/10)
8= Hulk Hogan & Mr T vs. Paul Orndorff & Rowdy Roddy Piper – Wrestlemania (7/10)
8= Randy Savage & Hulk Hogan vs. Ted Dibiase & Andre The Giant – Summerslam 88 (7/10)
There are five new entries to this list. Savage and Steamboat still top the list but being a sucker for a Royal Rumble match has meant that the 1990 and 1989 matches have entered into the top 3. Hogan and Andre drops down to 4th, joint with the Warrior/Rude match from Summerslam. Hogan and Savages Wrestlemania match also appears on this list as does the Survivor Series match captained by Dusty Rhodes and Big Boss Man in 1989. Hogans tag team main events at the first Wrestlemania and Summerslam 88 also stay on the list.
Lowest Ranking Matches
1= Paul Orndorff vs. Tito Santana – Wrestling Classic (2/10)
1= Fabulous Moolah vs. Velvet McIntyre – Wrestlemania II (2/10)
1= Uncle Elmer vs. Adrian Adonis – Wrestlemania II (2/10)
1= Corporal Kirchner vs. Nikolai Volkoff – Wrestlemania II (2/10)
1= Tony Garea vs. Ted Arcidi – The Big Event (2/10)
1= Haku vs. Don Muraco – The Big Event (2/10)
1= Adrian Adonis vs. Junkyard Dog – The Big Event (2/10)
1= Jake Roberts vs. Andre The Giant – Wrestlemania V (2/10)
9= Dick Slater vs. Iron Mike Sharp – The Big Event (2.5/10)
9= Butch Reed vs. Koko B. Ware – Wrestlemania III (2.5/10)
This list is pretty much the same as before except Jake Roberts and Andre The Giants unfortunate match at Wrestlemania V has been added. It knocks Warrior/Hercules out of the top 10. Adrian Adonis is the only man to feature on the list twice.
Highest Average Match Ratings (2 matches or more)
1. Earthquake (7)
2. Dusty Rhodes (6.5)
3= The Red Rooster (6.45)
3= Akeem (6.45)
5. Hulk Hogan (6.37)
6. The Rockers (6.33)
7. The Powers Of Pain (6.29)
8. “The Outlaw” Ron Bass (6.1)
9. Tully Blanchard (6.06)
10= Arn Anderson (6.05)
10= Rowdy Roddy Piper (6.05)
This list tends to look different every time I do it. The only guys to have remained on this list from last time are Hulk Hogan, Ron Bass and Roddy Piper. The Rockers, Powers of Pain and Brain Busters all feature on here showing how good tag team wrestling was at this point. Oddly Earthquake tops the list basically because he was in a good Survivor Series match in 89 and a decent Royal Rumble in 1990. Dusty Rhodes and The Red Rooster also feature in the top three. It’s probably worth mentioning that the gap between 1st and 10th is bigger than it was last time.
Lowest Average Match Rating (2 or more matches)
1. Corporal Kirchner (2.5)
2. Adrian Adonis (2.85)
3= Velvet McIntyre (3)
3= The Fabulous Moolah (3)
5. Rockin’ Robin (3.5)
6. The Glamour Girls (3.58)
7. Tama (3.66)
8. Billy Jack Haynes (3.75)
9= The Blue Blazer (3.875)
9= The Jumping Bomb Angels (3.875)
Most of this list is the same again except for the additions of Blue Blazer and Rockin Robin. Kirchner still tops the list for putting the worst matches on. Half of the list are women due to their not so great matches in the 80’s.
Bastion’s Top 10
1. Hulk Hogan (7475)
2. “Macho Man” Randy Savage (4675)
3. Andre The Giant (2516)
4. “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase (2025)
5. “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff (1550)
6. George Gray (One Man Gang/Akeem) (1344)
7. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (1310)
8= Haku (1220)
8= King Kong Bundy (1220)
10. Ultimate Warrior (1064)
This is a brand new category exclusive to this Stat Pack. It’s a formula that I have devised that takes into consideration matches had an won, main events and match ratings to create a top 10 of the most important guys in the WWE up to now. Hogan unsuprisingly topped it followed by Savage. Andre and Dibiase have also been very important to the business and them with Wrestlemania main eventer Paul Orndorff make up the top 5. Geroge Gray is a bit of a suprise to be in at number 6 whilst main eventers Piper, Warrior, Bundy and Haku make up the top 10.
Top Title Reigns
1. Hulk Hogan – 1st World Heavyweight Title Reign
2. Demolition – 1st Tag Team Title Reign
3. Randy Savage – 1st Intercontinental Title Reign
4. Honky Tonk Man – 1st Intercontinental Title Reign
5. Greg Valentine – 1st Intercontinental Title Reign
This is mainly based on pay per view defences. Hogan sits atop the list after holding his title for four years. Demolition had a couple of great defences against The Hart Foundation and The Powers Of Pain. There isn’t much between the Intercontinental title reigns and it wouldn’t take much to knock them off the list.
Highest Manager Success Rate (2 or more matches)
1. Miss Elizabeth (80%)
2= “Superstar” Billy Graham (50%)
2= The Fabulous Moolah (50%)
2= “Classie” Freddie Blassie (50%)
2= Frenchy Martin (50%)
2= “Captain” Lou Albano (50%)
2= “Sensational” Sherri (50%)
Much like the last stat pack Miss Elizabeth tops the list and is followed by half a dozen managers with a 50% success rate. It’s amazing that it only takes a 50% win record to get into the top 2. It seems that managers don’t have a lot of success on the whole unless you’re managing The Macho Man. If you were wondering where some of the more well known managers are, you’ll probably see them on the next list.
Highest Manager Loss Percentage (2 or more matches)
1= Cowboy Bob Orton (100%)
1= Oliver Humpberdink (100%)
3. Jimmy Hart (68.5%)
4. Slick (60%)
5. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan (59%)
There they are, Jimmy Hart, Slick and Bobby Heenan, three of the best managers ever but their clients all lost the majority of their matches. Bob Orton and Humperdink managed Roddy Piper and Bam Bam Bigelow respectively and couldn’t manage them to any wins. Jimmy, Slicks and Heenans loss percentage all got higher since the last stat pack but Slick did manage to leapfrog Heenan.
