Bragging Rights, the one night a year when Raw and Smackdown battle for brand supremacy. Before we get to the brand war though, lets start with the WWE Championship. John Cena lost to Wade Barrett at Hell In A Cell which meant that Cena had to join the Nexus. The anonymous Raw General Manager would go on to tell Cena that if he did not do as Barrett demanded then he would be fired. A battle royal would determine a number one contender to Randy Orton’s WWE Championship and Wade Barrett demanded that John Cena do everything to make sure Wade won the battle royal. Cena would do just that and even eliminated himself at the end to give Wade Barrett his title shot. Tonight Cena will be in Barretts corner as the leader of The Nexus looks to bring the biggest championship in WWE to The Nexus.
Over on Smackdown Kane’s manager Paul Bearer made another challenge to The Undertaker, this time in a Buried Alive match. This is a match stipulation that The Undertaker is all too familiar with as he has been in every single Buried Alive match in history. Undertaker accepted the match stip and haunted Kane with his own pyro but tonight one man will be Buried Alive. The only other title match scheduled for tonight is the Divas Championship. at Hell In A Cell Natalya defeated Michelle McCool by disqualification so she was granted another title shot for Bragging Rights. With Michelle McCool and Layla claiming to be co-Divas Champions, it was Layla that has decided to defend the title tonight.
The theme of the pay per view is Raw vs. Smackdown and Bragging Rights will be on the line in a seven vs. seven elimination match between the two brands. For Raw, The Miz initially named himself as captain and then beat John Cena to confirm his captains spot. The Raw team would then be formed by qualifiers, John Morrison, R-Truth, Sheamus, Santino and the newest addition to Raw, CM Punk would join The Miz. Miz would then announce that Ezekiel Jackson would join the team as the 7th member. On Smackdown The Big Show was named captain of his team and qualifiers were won by Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio, Jack Swagger, Kofi Kingston and the man that traded brands with CM Punk, Edge. Kaval would earn an opportunity to join the team but was quickly challenged by Tyler Reks who would defeat Kaval and take the final spot in the team.
The final match advertised for tonight is a brand vs. brand, champions vs. champion match as United States Champion Daniel Bryan takes on Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler. Bryan was the man to make the challenge and Ziggler accepted. It’ll be non-title but should be an awesome contest between the two.
In a dark match prior to the event MVP defeated Chavo Guerrero.
A video package kicks us off primarily focused on the Buried Alive match between The Undertaker and Kane. I’m guessing that’ll be closing the show tonight then. There’s a bit of a mention about the Raw vs. Smackdown match for brand supremacy, ie the whole theme of the show but not much said about that.
Michael Cole welcomes us to the Target Center and they run down the card, well just the WWE Championship match. Matt Striker and Jerry Lawler join Michael Cole on commentary. Striker builds up the World Heavyweight Championship match later.
Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler
Vickie Guerrero is out first to introduce her boyfriend Dolph Ziggler. This is a Raw vs. Smackdown match and also champion vs. champion as Dolph is Intercontinental Champion and Daniel Bryan is United States Champion. This is a first PPV match between these two men. Dolph takes Daniel Bryan down early as the two start with some chain wrestling. Bryan applies a leglock but Ziggler gets to the bottom rope. Daniel applies an armbar but again Dolph gets to the ropes. Daniel Bryan chases Ziggler around the ring but Ziggler hides behind Vickie Guerrero. Bryan climbs on to the apron and jumps over vickie, hitting Dolph with a big knee. Back in the ring and Bryan hits a running dropkick but Dolph soon takes the advantage. Dolph chokes Bryan on the middle rope and then applies a chinlock.
Bryan gets out of the chinlock and rolls Ziggler up for the first near fall of the night. Dolph then hits an inverted powerslam for a near fall. Ziggler applies a chinlock and Bryan tries to get out of it but Dolph slams him into the mat. Dolph applies a sleeper but Bryan fights out of it before missing a running dropkick in the corner. Ziggler gets a near fall and goes back to the chinlock but Daniel Bryan gets out of it with a jawbreaker. Bryan hits some big kicks and then a clothesline as he builds momentum. Bryan hits a running kick for a near fall and then more kicks. Bryan then hits a springboard missile dropkick for a two count but Ziggler avoids a kick and hits a superkick for a near fall himself. Bryan heads to the top but Dolph crotches him and goes up with him. Bryan then crotches Ziggler and looks for a side suplex off the top but Ziggler counters it. Ziggler gets a near fall and Bryan counters with a cover of his own for a near fall.
Ziggler locks on the sleeper but Bryan quickly gets out of it. The two men then hits crossbodies on each other! The two men slug it out on their knees and Bryan hits a big kick before exchanging near falls. Ziggler hits a fame-asser and the referee counts the three but Daniel Bryans foot was on the bottom rope so he calls it off. Dolph applies a sleeper and Bryan tries to roll out of it but can’t. Bryan gets to the bottom rope to break the hold and then locks on the LeBell lock! Ziggler taps out! Daniel Bryan wins a fantastic match between the two.

The Miz and Alex Riley are backstage happy with a win for Raw. Sheamus turns up and says that he is the captain of the team. CM Punk then arrives and says that Miz is barely captain crunch. Santino turns up and asks where the snacks and beverages are. Everyone leaves and Alex Riley tells Miz that he needs to bring the team together. Miz is happy with the chaos.
Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre come out and Rhodes says that the WWE Tag Team Champions have plenty to brag about. McIntyre says that since becoming champions they have dominated Raw and Smackdown and now there is nobody left to challenge them. The Anonymous Raw General Manager sends an email in and Michael Cole relays that there is a team on Raw worthy of facing the champions. The Nexus’ music hits and out comes Wade Barrett. Barrett introduces David Otunga and John Cena!
Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre (c) vs. David Otunga & John Cena – WWE Tag Team Championship match
Well this is a first. Otunga is looking for a first PPV victory tonight. Otunga starts the match against Cody Rhodes and Otunga hits a cheap shot but Rhodes takes him down and tags in McIntyre. Drew hits some kicks and then tags Rhodes back in. Lots of quick tags between Rhodes and McIntyre. I wouldn’t mind seeing the end of this tag team to be honest. McIntyre hits some right hands before tagging Rhodes back in. The Tag Team Champions hit a double suplex on Otunga and Otunga manages to tag in Cena. Rhodes manages to hit some right hands and knees on Cena but Cena reverses an Irish whip and hits a fishermans suplex for a two count. Cena hits another suplex for a two count and David Otunga gets in his face asking for a tag. Rhodes tags in McIntyre who hits a clothesline on Cena for a two count.
McIntyre tags in Rhodes who hits an uppercut reminiscent of Goldust for a two count. Rhodes stomps away at Cena and then tags in McIntyre who lays in the stomps. Cena fights back with right hands but McIntyre drops him face first for a two count. McIntyre tags in Rhodes who applies a unique camel clutch. Cena gets out of it and hits a couple of shoulder blocks before looking for a side suplex but Rhodes counters it and tags in McIntyre who gets hit by the side suplex. Cena hits the five knuckle shuffle but gets distracted by Rhodes. McIntyre looks for his finisher but Cena back drops him out of the ring. Rhodes makes a tag and looks for cross-Rhodes but Cena counters and locks on the STF! Rhodes taps out and we’ve got new WWE Tag Team Champions! Otunga celebrates with the title so Cena drops him with the attitude adjustment.

We’re shown some footage from Raw recently with Goldust stalking DiBiase and Maryse, wanting the Million Dollar Championship.
Josh Mathews is backstage with Ted DiBiase who calls Goldust weird. DiBiase says that tonight he will beat Goldust, take back his Million Dollar title and get his NXT fake girlfriend deported.
Goldust vs. Ted DiBiase
I don’t think match is technically a title match. It is a first PPV match between these two men and a return to PPV for Goldust. Maryse is wearing a ridiculously short dress. Goldust is joined by his NXT rookie Aksana. DiBiase gets the early advantage, taking Goldust down in the corner but Goldust fires back with a butt bump before clotheslining Ted out of the ring. Goldust follows and throws DiBiase into the barricade before rolling him into the ring and heading to the top but DiBiase knocks him off the top and hits Goldust with right hands. DiBiase hits a reverse elbow and a dropkick for a near fall. Maryse shouts abuse at Aksana on the outside and DiBiase applies a chinlock to Goldust. Goldust fights out of the chinlock but DiBiase knocks him down with a clothesline for a two count. Ted then hits a couple of fistdrops much like his father used to and then a backbreaker for a near fall.
Dibiase hits a punt to the face for a two count and then applies a sleeper but Goldust hits a side suplex to break it up. Goldust hits a couple of clotheslines and his trademark uppercut. Goldust hits an atomic drop and a bulldog for a two count but then misses with a cross body and rolls all the way to the outside. Goldust drops DiBiase on the top rope and then heads to the top but DiBiase sees him coming and hits him with a dropkick for a two count. Goldust hits a big powerslam for a two count and Dibiase then sets up for a dream street but Goldust counters it just for DiBiase to counter Goldust with a sit-out spinebuster for a two count. The two men then collide heads and both go down. On the outside Maryse attack Aksana! Maryse rolls Aksana into the ring and Goldust sees to her which is a big enough distraction for DiBiase to hit a DDT for the three! Ted DiBiase beats Goldust tonight. Aksana attacks Maryse after the match and takes the Million Dollar Championship! Goldust drops Dibiase with the final cut but he lost tonight!

Layla (c) vs. Natalya – WWE Divas Championship match
Layla and Michelle come out talking, firstly slagging off the crowd. Layla is great. This is a first PPV match between these two girls. Natalya starts the match with a firemans carry and we get a bit of chain wrestling between the two, Natalya then hits a suplex, squatting as she does. Layla dropkicks Natalya out of the ring and so Natalya pulls Layla out with her. Michelle tries to get involved but Natalya throws her into the barricade. Michelle manages to get the better of Natalya as she tries to get back into the ring. Layla throws Natalya into the ring and hits her with a dropkick to the back of the head for a two count. Layla applies a unique crucifix surfboard which Natalya manages to get out of. Layla applies a body scissors which looks quite sexual but Natalya overpowers Layla and slams her into the mat.
Natalya hits a clothesline for a two count and then a double underhook suplex and another couple of clotheslines. Natalya hits a dropkick for a two count and then a spinning clothesline before trying to lock on the sharpshooter but Layla quickly gets to the ropes. Layla then leaves the ring and grabs her title before heading to the back but Natalya goes after her and throws her into the ring. Michelle gets involved with a running boot to Natalya and Layla pins her to get the three! Layla beats Natalya tonight! Enjoyable match between these two girls.

Josh Mathews is in the buried alive grave explaining the rules for the match. He then leads into a VT for the match.
Kane (c) vs. The Undertaker – Buried Alive match for the World Heavyweight Championship
This is the tenth PPV match between these two men, more singles matches between these two men then any other match in history. Undertaker has won 5 of the previous 9, Kane has won 2 and they have drawn 2. Undertaker attacks Kane as he makes his entrance, hitting him with right hands in the aisle and then smashing Kane into the ring steps. Undertaker hits Kane with right hands and then rolls him into the ring. Undertaker hits a couple of splashes and then lays in the boots. Kane escapes the ring and goes into the crowd with Undertaker in pursuit. The two men slug it out in the crowd where Undertaker continues to pummel Kane. Undertaker then throws Kane back into the ringside area and throws a few chairs into the ring. Undertaker hits his trademark legdrop on the apron and then picks up a chair but Kane retreats out of the ring. Undertaker follows and clotheslines Kane over the barricade before laying into Kane in the crowd again.

Kane retreats again, climbing up the burial site. Undertaker motions for the end and looks for a chokeslam but Kane fights him off knocks him down with a big boot. Kane attempts to drag The Undertaker over the hole in the ground but Undertaker locks on hells gate! Kane taps out until he passes out. Paul Bearer is up to something. Undertaker rolls Kane into the grave! He must now bury him alive with the dirt. Undertaker intimidates Paul Bearer and then rubs his head into the dirt before looking to chokeslam him! But out come The Nexus! Wade Barrett, David Otunga, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel attack Undertaker! They pummel him and hold him for Kane who hits Undertaker with the urn!
Undertaker falls into the grave and The Nexus shovel the dirt onto him! Kane tells them to go and then calls for the JCB to finish the job. Kane wins the match, beating The Undertaker tonight, retaining the World Heavyweight Championship! The ending was good but generally a boring match. Wouldn’t mind if I never saw this match again.

Josh Mathews is backstage with Randy Orton asking him whether he thinks John Cena will cost him the WWE Championship tonight. Orton tells Josh that if Cena interferes tonight then he will drop him in the middle of the ring.
Team Raw (The Miz, John Morrison, R-Truth, Sheamus, CM Punk, Santino & Ezekiel Jackson) vs. Team Smackdown (The Big Show, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, Edge, Alberto Del Rio & Tyler Reks) – Elimination match for Bragging Rights
This match marks PPV in-ring debuts for Alberto Del Rio and Tyler Reks whilst Ezekiel Jackson looks for his first PPV victory. I think I prefer the Smackdown team, it looks slightly stronger. R-Truth represented Smackdown last year whilst Big Show, Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger represented Raw. None of these 14 men represented the team last year that they are on this year. John Morrison and Tyler Reks start the match and Reks takes Morrison down. Reks gets a two count and then drops Morrison again, hitting him with elbow drops for another two count. Reks hits a forearm but Morrison pushes Reks into the corner and then drops him with a dropkick. Morrison tags in Santino who hits a headbutt and then sets up for the cobra! Ezekiel Jackson steps up for his team and takes down Tyler Reks. Jackson hits a powerslam and Reks tags in The Big Show. Big Show takes Jackson down with a headbutt and then a big chop or two. Show powerslams Jackson and tags in Rey Mysterio who hits a legdrop for a two count. Mysterio tags in Kofi Kingston but Jackson takes down both men. Ezekiel tags in Sheamus who clubs away at Kingston and then powerslams him for a one count. Sheamus applies an armbar but Kofi gets out of it and hits a pendulum kick and a high cross body for a near fall. Kingston builds momentum with a clothesline and a boom drop before motioning for trouble in paradise but he gets distracted by CM Punk so misses his opportunity. Kofi hits the SOS for a near fall but Sheamus crotches him on the top rope and hits him with the high cross which is enough for the three. Kofi Kingston has been eliminated.
Rey Mysterio lays into Sheamus with kicks but Sheamus drops him with a clothesline. Sheamus tags in CM Punk who gets a good pop. Mysterio counters a suplex and hits a big boot before running into a powerslam for a near fall. CM Punk tags in Sheamus who drops Mysterio with a clothesline. Sheamus tags CM Punk back in and Mysterio kicks him in the face. Alberto Del Rio tags himself in but he misses with a kick and CM Punk pushes Del Rio into Rey Mysterio. Del Rio kicks CM Punk out of the ring and then rolls him back in before throwing his partner Rey Mysterio into the barricade. Del Rio drops an elbow on CM Punk and then a German suplex for a two count. Del Rio tags in Jack Swagger who hits a suplex on CM Punk. Rey Mysterio gets taken to the back by trainers. Swagger hits a belly to belly on Punk for a two count. Punk kicks Swagger in the head and tags in John Morrison. Morrison hits Swagger with a dropkick and a clothesline. Morrison hits the flash kick for a near fall and the two men exchange pinfalls. Swagger hits a big powerslam for a near fall and then looks for a Vader bomb but Morrison gets his feet up. Swagger looks for an ankle lock but Morrison kicks him away and then hits starship pain for the three! Jack Swagger has been eliminated.
Tyler Reks goes right to work on Morrison and applies a chinlock. Morrison tags in Sheamus who hits some clubbing blows but Reks drops him with a clothesline. Reks knocks Morrison off the apron but turns around into a brogue kick! Tyler Reks has been eliminated. Big Show gets involved and throws Sheamus out of the ring. Hornswoggle is ringside as the mascot for team Smackdown and Sheamus shoves him to the floor. Big Show lays into Sheamus up the aisle but the referee counts out both men! Big Show and Sheamus have been eliminated.
Edge enters the match for the first time as does R-Truth. Edge takes shows at everyone and drops R-Truth with clotheslines. Truth hits a dropkick and a clothesline before trying for a scissors kick but Edge avoids it and spears R-Truth for the three! R-Truth has been eliminated. John Morrison quickly goes to work on Edge but misses with starship pain so Edge hits him with a spear! That’s enough for the three. John Morrison has been eliminated. CM Punk gets in the ring and looks for the go to sleep but Edge counters it with a DDT. Alberto Del Rio tags himself in and goes to work on CM Punk. CM Punk hits a backslide from nowhere and gets the three! Alberto Del Rio has been eliminated.
So we’re down to The Miz, who has yet to be in the ring, Ezekiel Jackson and CM Punk against Edge. And technically Rey Mysterio but he’s gone to the back. But he’s back! He attacks Del Rio from behind and then gets up on the apron. Edge hits CM Punk with an enzeguri and Punk tags in The Miz. The Miz stops Edge from making the tag and then hits him with right hands. Miz tags in Ezekiel Jackson who stomps all over Edge and then hits him with a powerslam and elbow drop for a two count. Jackson tags in The Miz who applies a chinlock and then a backbreaker/neckbreaker combo for a two count. CM Punk tags in and lays in some boots. Punk misses with a running knee in the corner and Edge hits him with an electric chair drop. Edge tags in Rey Mysterio who hits a seated senton and then a kick to the face. Mysterio hits a springboard cross body but Punk rolls through and gets a two count. Punk then sets up for a go to sleep but Mysterio counters it and the two men exchange pinfalls. Mysterio hits 619 on CM Punk and then the splash for the three! CM Punk has been eliminated.
Ezekiel Jackson immediately knocks down Rey Mysterio with a clothesline and then a powerslam. Mysterio hits a couple of boots but Ezekiel knocks him down. Rey hits a low dropkick setting up for the 619 but Jackson stands up and swats him away. Mysterio hits a DDT and then the 619! Mysterio hits the splash but kinda botched it. He gets the three though. Ezekiel Jackson has been eliminated. We’re down to Edge and Rey Mysterio against The Miz. Mysterio looks for a 619 but Alex Riley gets up on the apron and takes the blow! Miz looks for the skull-crushing finale but Mysterio counters it and tags in Edge! Edge takes Miz down with a spear and gets the three! Edge and Rey Mysterio win the match for Smackdown! Not who I would have guessed to win but they are two staples for Smackdown. Really entertaining match.

There’s a video package next for the main event.
Randy Orton (c) vs. Wade Barrett – WWE Championship match
This is a first time PPV match between these two men. Orton, like Cena, has now wrestled on 27 PPVs consecutively. Kurt Angle has the record for consecutive PPV’s with 34 so they’re not far away. Wade Barrett walks out with a conflicted John Cena. Barrett gets on the mic before the bell and tells Cena that if he doesn’t win the match then he will fire Cena tonight. Randy gets the early advantage, slowly taking Barrett down and laying in the boots. Barrett throws Orton out of the ring where Orton and Cena look at one another. Barrett isn’t happy with Cena not getting involved. Barrett lays into Orton with right hands but Orton drops him with a clothesline. Randy hits a couple of kneedrops for a two count but then runs into a boot. Barrett chokes Orton on the middle rope and then distracts the referee but still Cena does nothing which Barrett doesn’t like. Orton attacks Wade from behind and then smashes him into the ring steps. Someone shouts “do your job Cena” which made me laugh.
Back in the ring and Orton gets a two count and then applies a chinlock. Barrett gets out of it and looks for a chinlock himself but Orton hits a side suplex. Barrett retreats to the outside and then reverses an Irish whip, sending Orton into the ring steps. Back in the ring and Barrett hits some right hands for a two count and then an elbow drop off the middle rope for another near fall. This is the fourth PPV match for Wade Barrett and three of those four have been main events. The other was against John Cena so he’s had a good run so far. Barrett applies a chinlock but Orton fights out of it but only so Wade can hit a pump handle slam for a two count. Barrett takes the fight to the outside and smashes Orton into the barricade and ring apron. Back in the ring and Barrett goes back to the chinlock but again Randy gets out of it and again Barrett attempts a pump handle slam but Orton counters it and hits a big dropkick. Orton looks for the hangmans DDT but Wade counters it and sends Orton into the referee.
Barrett knocks down Orton and then screams for Cena to get on to the ring apron. Cena does but Orton pushes Barrett into Cena, knocking him off the apron. David Otunga, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel then run down and put a beating on Orton. Cena then gets into the ring and fights off The Nexus! Orton hits an RKO on Slater and Cena disposes of Otunga and Gabriel. Cena tells Barrett that if he gets disqualified then he loses. Barrett knocks Orton down with a clothesline and then sets him up for wasteland but Orton fights him off and knocks him down with clotheslines and a powerslam. Orton hits a hangmans DDT and motions for an RKO but Cena gets in the ring! Cena hits Barrett with an attitude adjustment! The referee calls for the bell, Wade Barrett wins the match but not the WWE Championship tonight! Orton drops Cena with an RKO! An ok match, pretty boring but good psychology.

And that was Bragging Rights 2010! It was a show that started off strongly but went out with more of a whimper. The opener between Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler was very very good. I definitely recommend that you go check it out. These are two guys that can go and as a result they’ve really created some magic tonight. Daniel Bryan got the win which I like, he’s been getting a good push despite Michael Cole constantly burying him on commentary. Great stuff here. We then got a surprise match for the Tag Team Champions with John Cena and David Otunga defeating Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. This was obviously for storyline progression and I don’t mind it too much. It adds interest to the tag team titles. I never really bought Rhodes and McIntyre as a tag team. The match was decent enough, it’s nice to see John Cena work with different people. It’ll be good to see where this goes and David Otunga will be happy with winning his first gold in the WWE.
Next up was a match that I didn’t realise was happening tonight. Ted DiBiase beat Goldust which was a win that I think DiBiase needed. I was always a big fan of DiBiase and thought he’d be much higher up the card by now. This was a decent match, it was Goldusts first PPV match in a long time so nice to see him back on a big show. I like the divas getting involved and bringing a bit more to the feud. Can see a mixed tag team match between these four in the near future. Layla beat Natalya next to retain the WWE Divas Championship. This match was decent enough. I guess there was a chance Natalya could have beaten Layla tonight but it went the other way and Layla won with help from Michelle. This keeps the feud alive although Natalya has failed to win the title from either members of Lay-Cool so it makes you wonder where they could go next with this feud. I like Lay-Cool as co-champions, I’m not a huge fan of Natalya so I don’t mind this title run extending.
Kane and Undertaker were up next and it feels like I’ve seen this match a hundred times before. I honestly hope this is the end of this feud. Kane won with a lot of help from The Nexus so I look forward to seeing where this is going. Maybe a feud between The Undertaker and Wade Barrett? Usually this match type gives the loser a few months off. It doesn’t make sense to bring The Undertaker back on Smackdown this week. The best part of this match was The Nexus getting involved and that is the only part of all of this that keeps my interest. Team Smackdown then beat Team Raw for the second consecutive year to win the Bragging Rights trophy. Edge and Rey Mysterio won which wouldn’t have been my picks but they do feel like Smackdown guys and not just fighting for whatever brand they happen to be on. I liked that this match was elimination but I think Alberto Del Rio should ave won this match too as he has been hot recently. I doubt there’ll be much fallout from this but Edge and Mysterio win the match. The likes of Tyler Reks and Ezekiel Jackson got a good rub from being in this match too.
Wade Barrett then beat Randy Orton by disqualification in the main event. This finish was well thought out and makes a lot of sense. It keeps the feud going although could insert John Cena in the match at Survivor Series. In fact, I am very sure that will happen. Randy Orton continues on as WWE Champion which is good, he’s very popular at the moment. I’m not sure Wade Barrett is quite ready for the title yet. An ok match to finish the show with.
