Tables, Ladders and Chairs, oh my. This pay per view returns for a second year and there are seven big matches for tonights card. The WWE Championship will be on the line tonight but it’ll be Randy Orton as challenger but not champion. The Miz cashed in his Money In The Bank contract the night after Survivor Series, beating Randy Orton for the gold after Randy had defended his title against Wade Barrett. Randy Orton would want to use his rematch clause the next week but the anonymous Raw General Manager decreed that the two would meet at TLC. The Miz would choose the stipulation and decided that it would be a tables match. It’s a first PPV meeting between the two and the stipulation definitely benefits The Miz.

Also tonight the World Heavyweight Championship will be defended but we’re not 100% sure on how many people will be in the match. Originally two matches were scheduled with Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey Mysterio and Kane vs. Edge. Edge beat Kane on Smackdown in order to name the stipulation for their match and he named his trademark match, a TLC match. Edge would continue to torment Kane, using his father Paul Bearer and sucked Kane into pushing his own father off some scaffolding. Kane hasn’t been seen since and Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long decided that if Kane doesn’t show up for TLC then the World Heavyweight Championship match would be a triple threat with Edge, Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio. But if Kane does show up then it’ll be a fatal four way. And it’ll be a TLC match.

Another big match tonight is between Wade Barrett and John Cena. Cena lost his job at Survivor Series but he continued to torment The Nexus, telling Barrett that he would stop if he re-employed him. Barrett would bring back Cena but only if he would face Wade in a chairs match at TLC. Also tonight a ladder match between Sheamus and John Morrison will determine a number one contender to the WWE Championship. Morrison beat sheamus at Survivor Series but since then the two met in finals of the returning King Of The Ring tournament. Tonight is technically the rubber match and the stakes couldn’t be hire as the winner will receive a shot at the WWE Championship.

The Intercontinental Championship is set to be defended tonight in a triple threat match. Jack Swagger wasn’t happy with how Kofi Kingston beat him to win number one contendership to Dolph Zigglers title so attacked Kingston during the match. Teddy Long would then make a triple threat ladder match between Ziggler, Kingston and Swagger for TLC. There is a first time ever match tonight with a tag team tables match between two teams of divas. It’ll be non-titles but Beth Phoenix and Natalya take on the Michelle McCool and Layla as their rivalry continues. Also tonight Santino and Vladimir Kozlov will be defending their WWE Tag Team Championships against former champions Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel.

In a dark match prior to the event Daniel Bryan defeated Ted DiBiase to retain the United States Championship.

TLC kicks off with a retrospective look at 2010. There’s then a brief build up to tonight which doesn’t focus on any particular match.

Michael Cole welcomes us to the final pay per view of 2010, he’s joined by Matt Striker and Jerry “The King” Lawler. Striker is now sat in the middle which is interesting but it might be because of the recent issues between Cole and Lawler.

Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Jack Swagger – Triple threat ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship

This is a first time triple threat match between these three men. Kofi lost to Randy Orton at last years TLC PPV. Ziggler is accompanied by Vickie Guerrero. These are three talented wrestler so this should be a good match. All three men go after each other as the bell rings, no alliances yet. Kingston throws Ziggler out of the ring but Swagger goes right to work on Kofi. The two men collide heads and roll to the outside allowing Dolph Ziggler to set a ladder up in the ring and climb it. Kingston and Swagger push over the ladder and Kofi then hits a big dropkick on Swagger. Kingston sets up the ladder in the middle of the ring but Ziggler brings in another ladder and jabs it into Kofi. Dolph then sets up the ladder horizontally in the corner before back dropping Kofi onto it and then hitting him with a neckbreaker. A trainer on the outside sees to Jack Swaggers wrist. Swagger then slingshots Ziggler into the ladder in the corner.

Jack Swagger sets up a ladder in the middle of the ring but Kofi springboards onto it and dropkicks Swagger to the mat. Kofi then climbs the ladder but Swagger gets to his feet and instead Kofi leaps down at him before throwing a ladder onto him. Dolph fame-assers Kofi onto the ladder and all three men roll to the outside. Vickie Guerrero then gets in the ring and slowly climbs up the ladder but Kofi gets in the ring and climbs the other side of the ladder. Kofi tells her to get down but instead Vickie continues to climb to the top. Kingston then tips the ladder back but Vickie holds on! Swagger nails Kofi with another ladder and then throws the ladder at Dolph Ziggler. Swagger sets up the ladder and climbs it but Kofi uses another ladder to knock him off. Ziggler then clotheslines Kofi out of the ring and both men fall to the outside. Kofi crawls back into the ring but Swagger follows and locks on the ankle lock! Kofi still manages to scale the ladder even with the ankle lock applied.

Dolph Ziggler jumps over both men and climbs to the top of the ladder but he can’t unhook the championship. Kofi kicks Swagger away and climbs to the top, slugging it out with Ziggler. Ziggler avoids a right hand a locks a sleeper hold on at the top of the ladder. Kingston breaks the hold and then hammers Ziggler off the top of the ladder! Swagger slides back into the ring and climbs the ladder and both Swagger and Kingston unhook the title. It falls to the ground and Ziggler grabs the title! Dolph is announced as the winner and Matt Striker reminds us that not only do you have to unhook the title but you have to hold it in your hands too. I hate that finish. Ziggler retains his title but in a screwy sort of way. Ruins the match for me. The crowd boo it too.

The Nexus (minus David Otunga) are backstage. Wade Barrett says that the Nexus are united and it starts tonight with Gabriel and Slater winning the tag team titles back. Barrett says that the priority is with Cena and tonight he will be sending a message.

Natalya & Beth Phoenix vs. Michelle McCool & Layla – Tag Team Tables match

This is a first time tag team match between these two teams. Michelle McCool defeated Mickie James at last years TLC event. She’s looking to be the first person ever to have back to back TLC PPV wins. Natalya is the WWE Divas Champion but that title isn’t on the line tonight. Natalya and McCool pair off as the bell rings and Beth and Layla go at it. Natalya and Phoenix take the advantage before grabbing a pink table with “Lay-Cool” printed on it and slide it into the ring. Beth then picks up both opponents on her shoulders but they slide down. Beth clotheslines Michelle and Natalya hits Layla with a clothesline. Layla hits Beth with a baseball slide and Michelle smashes Phoenix into a table set up on the outside. Back in the ring and it’s advantage Lay-Cool. Lay-Cool Irish whip Beth into Natalya before throwing Phoenix out of the ring. Not a good landing for Beth Phoenix there.

Lay-Cool set up another table in the middle of the ring. Layla suplexes Natalya into Michelle who is sat on the middle rope. Michelle sets up for a facebreaker from the middle rope but Phoenix makes the save. Phoenix then looks to military press Michelle but she slips down. Natalya and Michelle then clothesline each other down. Layla dropkicks Natalya out of the ring and then lays into Beth Phoenix. Layla looks to suplex Beth through the table but she can’t get Phoenix up. Beth and Natalya then looks to throws Layla through the table but Michelle makes the save. Natalya looks to catapult Michelle through the table but Layla looks for the save on for Natalya to lock a double sharpshooter on both girls! Beth moves the pink table, setting it up on the aisle side of the ring and Natalya breaks the hold.

Michelle manages to throw Beth out of the ring and Lay-Cool double team Natalya. Michelle pops Natalya on the middle rope and Layla positions the table below. Lay-Cool then look for a double superplex but Beth Phoenix makes the save. Layla throws Beth into the ringpost and Lay-Cool then look for the double superplex again but Natalya pushes both girls down to the table below. But the table didn’t break! Natalya then dives down splashing Michelle and Layla through the table for the win! A big win for Natalya and Phoenix tonight! Good match.

Santino & Vladimir Kozlov (c) vs. Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel – Tag Team Championship match

This is a rematch from Survivor Series where these two teams previously met and The Nexus won. Santino gets on the mic before the bell and says that they will beat The Lexus. Slater and Gabriel are joined by Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty. Santino and Gabriel start the match and Gabriel takes Santino down with a wristlock. Santino hits a hiptoss and then a headlock which Gabriel gets out of. There’s a bit of wrestling with Santino hitting a weak leg-sweep. Gabriel tags out to Heath Slater but Santino takes him down with a firemans carry. Slater takes the advantage and drives his knee into Santino’s side and back. A “Wendy’s” chant breaks out implying that Slater looks like the girl from Wendy’s. Santino tags Vladimir Kozlov who throws Slater across the ring and then smashes him into the top turnbuckle.

Kozlov headbutts Slater and then hits him with a fallaway slam, sending Slater to the outside. Kozlov rams Slater into the side of the ring but with the referee distracted Husky Harris takes out Kozlovs knee as he gets back into the ring. slater tags in Gabriel who hits a kneedrop for a two count. Gabriel applies a chinlock but Kozlov powers out of it. Gabriel tags in Slater who hits a basement dropkick for a two count and then applies a front facelock. Slater breaks the hold and then cheapshots Santino. Santino bites which allows Gabriel to pull Kozlov back to The Nexus corner. Slater looks for a splash in the corner but Kozlov headbutts him down to the mat. Slater tags in Gabriel and Kozlov tags Santino. Santino hits a hiptoss and then a stunner before setting up for the cobra but Husky distracts the referee and Michael McGillicutty gets involved! The referee sees it and calls for the bell.

Santino and Kozlov retain the tag team title tonight but the four members of The Nexus lay into the champions after the bell. Wade Barrett then emerges with a chair and beats down Kozlov and Santino with it.

John Morrison vs. Sheamus – Ladder match to determine number one contender to the WWE Championship

This is a second PPV match between these two men, Morrison beat Sheamus at Survivor Series. Since then though Sheamus beat John Morrison in the King Of The Ring final. The second ladder match tonight. Sheamus takes down Morrison early with a headlock takeover. Sheamus beat John Cena for the WWE Championship at TLC last year. Morrison lost the Intercontinental Championship to Drew McIntyre at that event. The two men battle to the outside where Sheamus sets up a massive ladder from the ring to the announce desk. Sheamus tries to throw Morrison into it but John slides under. Morrison sends Sheamus into the barricade but as he walks off Sheamus attacks him from behind and throws Morrison over the barricade. The Miz (c) vs. Randy Orton – Tables match for the WWE Championship

This is a first PPV match between these two men. Orton gets a huge pop. Huge. I actually had to double check that this show isn’t in St Louis. It’s not. Randy is looking to be the only man to have won at both last years and this years TLC events. He beat Kofi Kingston last year. Miz is accompanied by Alex Riley. Orton lays into Miz in the early going, hitting a slam and an elbow drop before stomping on The Miz’s face and hitting a hard Irish whip. Randy sets up a table in the middle of the ring and then drops Miz with a backbreaker. Orton motions for an RKO but instead sets Miz up for a powerbomb but Riley gets in the ring and distracts Orton! Miz attempts a skull-crushing finale off the distraction but Orton fights him off, knocking Miz in the referee. The referee goes down and Orton hits Riley with an RKO. Orton then powerbombs Riley through the table! Miz hits Orton with a skull-crushing finale and then pulls Riley out of the rubble of the table. Miz drags Orton into the broken table and wakes up the referee who sees it and calls for the bell! The Miz is declared the winner! I have never seen anything like that but I think I like it! The Miz retains the WWE Championship against Randy Orton tonight!

But the referee waves it off! The referee saw the replay and restarts the match! Orton beats Miz off the barricades and then throws him into the ringpost. Orton slides Miz into the ring. Alex Riley is still getting up to his feet and Miz pushes Riley into Orton who falls through a table on the outside! The Miz definitely wins this time and leaves as WWE Champion!

Rosa Mendez is backstage checking out Alberto Del Rio’s car. Del Rio is impressed with what he sees. Edge appears and bounces up and down in the back seat. Del Rio asks Edge if he is here to abduct Ricardo Rodriguez because if he is then he doesn’t care, he’ll buy another. Edge says to Del Rio that the two of them and Rey should take out Kane. Edge is kidding, that strategy never works. Del Rio says that Edge should talk to Christian about him. Edge says that he’ll leave tonight as a ten time WWE Champion.

Kane (c) vs. Edge vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio – Fatal four way TLC match for the World Heavyweight Championship

Rey Mysterio is dressed like Gene Simmons tonight. Del Rio is looking for his first pay per view match. None of these four men wrestled at TLC last year. The bell rings and Del Rio pairs off with Mysterio whilst Kane and Edge battle to the outside. Mysterio hits a tilt-a-whirl head scissors sending Del Rio into the middle turnbuckle and then following it up with a dropkick. Edge and Kane hit each other with a big boot on the outside as Mysterio slides a ladder into the ring. Rey sets up the ladder and climbs it quickly, getting all the way to the top but Alberto Del Rio pushes over the ladder sending Rey crashing to the outside and into Edge and Kane. Del Rio climbs the ladder but climbs down when Rey gets back into the ring. Mysterio drop toe holds Del Rio into a ladder and then climbs the ladder in the middle of the ring but again Alberto stops him. Mysterio hits a seated senton on Del Rio using the ladder but in comes Kane who throws Rey into the ladder.

Edge takes out Kane and then picks up a ladder but Kane hits him with a big boot. Kane then throws the ladder out at Mysterio and Del Rio before looking for a chokeslam on Edge but Edge counters and hits Kane with an implant DDT. Edge rams a ladder into Kane in this, the third ladder match of the evening. That makes it difficult in itself. Edge sets up a table on the outside but Kane fights him off and smashes him off the announce desk. Kane throws Edge over the barricade and then big boots Alberto Del Rio and lays into Rey Mysterio. Kane accidentally rips a table apart but sets it up across the announce desk. Edge, Del Rio and Mysterio lay into Kane on the outside and then Edge and Rey take out Del Rio. Kane takes everyone out with chairs but Edge and Del Rio team up to take him down. Edge spears Kane at the top of the ramp and Rey Mysterio then climbs up the tables that are hanging on the set before diving off and taking out Kane. Rey then runs back to the ring but Del Rio follows and stops him from climbing the ladder. Edge arrives to but Rey sets both men up for 619’s. Edge is left alone and has a pretty big gash on his back but he climbs up the ladder and pulls down the title to become a ten time champion!

Cody Rhodes is out next fully suited and booted. He rips into the crowd, telling them that they have irritable jowl syndrome. The Bellas interrupt him handing out presents as well as Santa Clause which is quite clearly The Big Show. Cody doesn’t appreciate the interruption and tries to embarrass Big Show with a picture of him in his underwear on the cover of Knucklehead. Big Show calls Cody uptight and Cody says that Big Show is a vanilla Shrek. Big Show takes Cody down with a spinebuster and then rips up Cody’s suit before leaving Cody in his underwear!

Wade Barrett and Husky Harris are walking backstage when Cena smashes Harris with a chair. Cena says “I guess that’s everybody, see you out there”. Good stuff.

CM Punks music hits and out walks CM Punk who has been commentating on Raw recently. Matt Striker hands over his headset as Punk sits down.

John Cena vs. Wade Barrett – Chairs match

Well I’m surprised that this is the match to close the show. They have met on pay per view once before and Barrett won that one, that was Hell In A Cell a couple of months ago. Barrett tries to leave the ring in the early going but Cena drags him back in and takes him down with a headlock takedown. The two battle to the outside where Barrett picks up a chair but swings it and misses a couple of times. Cena runs away and then grabs a chair of his own. The two men circle each other in the ring before both men swing the chairs and the chairs meet and hit the deck. Cena lays into Barrett with stomps in the corner and then bulldogs Barrett into a chair for a two count. Cena looks to swing a chair again but Barrett pulls a referee in the way and then disposes of the chair. Wade hits a pump handle slam for a two count. Barrett then hits some left handed jabs and Cena rolls out of the ring. Barrett Irish whips Cena into the ring steps and then swings a chair at him but Cena moves.

Barrett swings a chair into Cena’s back as he tries to crawl away. Cena crawls to the top of the entrance ramp and Barrett smashes a chair into his back again. Wade then sets up the ring steps vertically at the bottom the entrance ramp before going up to Cena and looking for a powerbomb but Cena counters it with a back body drop. Cena disappears to the back but comes back with a wheely chair. He sits Barrett in it and then wheels it down the ramp and into the ring steps. That looked painful to be fair. Barrett takes the advantage with a chair and then puts Cena’s head into it and throws it into the ringpost. That spot is usually used as a career ender. Barrett rolls Cena back into the ring and hits him with a chair. Cena fights off Barrett but Barrett blocks a shoulder block with a chair. Barrett ties up Cena in the ropes and lays into him with right hands and then a chair. Cena fights back and hits a side slam and a five knuckle shuffle.

John Cena sets up for the attitude adjustment but Barrett counters it and hits a side slam for the first near fall of the night. Barrett grabs another chair and sets it up in the corner, sending Cena shoulder first into it. Barrett gets another near fall and then grabs another chair, going up to the middle rope and diving off with the chair but Cena rolls out of the way. Both men get to their feet but Cena grabs the chair first and leathers Barrett with it. Cena then goes to the top with the chair and hits a legdrop using the chair! Cena then sets up six chairs in the ring next to each other before hitting Barrett with an attitude adjustment through them! Cena hooks the leg and gets the three! John Cena wins the match and finally gets vengeance on Wade Barrett. Decent enough match between these two men. CM Punk isn’t happy on commentary. Cena lays into Barrett after the bell, beating him with a chair up the ramp and off to the side. Cena then lays Barrett down on a pallet and puts that on Barrett. Cena then pulls down the row of chairs hanging from the ceiling but it won’t make any difference because Barrett was protected by the pallet.

And that was TLC 2010, the final pay per view of the decade. It felt like a good show but maybe that’s because I’m a sucker for a gimmick match. The show kicked off with three talented stars in Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger. They had a good ladder match, nothing spectacular but good. I didn’t like the finish. I don’t like that it’s not the person that unclips the title that wins it but the person that holds it. Not a fan of that finish at all. Ziggler retains the title and he’s having a great run. I’m not against it, I’m happy for Dolph to have a long run. Next up was the tag team tables match and again the finish let it down. But not the booking of the finish, just the botch itself. Natalya pushed Lay-Cool on to the table but not through it. The splash did it though. The table obviously wasn’t gimmicked enough. But this gave Natalya and Beth Phoenix a big tag team win. How long until Beth turns on Natalya?

Santino and Vladimir Kozlov defeated Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater by disqualification to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships. This was probably the weakest match of the night but it gave the champions a successful defence. I quite like the team of Santino and Kozlov, they have good chemistry. There isn’t much of a tag team division at the moment but I’m sure The Usos will get their shot soon, especially as Tamina has moved from their corner to Santino’s. John Morrison beat Sheamus to become number one contender to the WWE Championship. This was a bit of an upset if you ask me. Even though Morrison beat Sheamus at Survivor Series. Morrison and Miz are former partners so there’s a lot of history there. Morrison is talented but I’m not quite sure that he’s main event material.

The Miz beat Randy Orton to retain the WWE Championship. This was another screwy finish, especially with Miz winning, the referee calling it off and then Miz beating Orton again. It’s a good win for Miz though and helps establish him as champion, making him more credible. This was a good match, I like the use of Alex Riley at the end. Edge won a fatal four way TLC match to become a ten time World Heavyweight Champion. I like Edge as champion so this is great. Kane had a good reign and it lasted a long time but I was fed up with it. Edge would be a good champion going into Wrestlemania and Alberto Del Rio could be the perfect opponent for him. This was a really good match. John Cena beat Wade Barrett in the final match of the evening. I was surprised this went on last. It puts an end to this feud that has been going on for the past few months. It was a good match.

Overall Rating: 66.7/100 (ranked 28th out of 260)

Match Of The Night: Kane vs. Edge. Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio
Worst Match Of The Night: Santino & Vladimir Kozlov vs. Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater
Surprise Of The Night: John Morrison beats Sheamus
Worst Booking Of The Night: The IC ladder match finish
Superstar Of The Night: Edge
TLC 2010 Will Be Remembered For: Edge winning the World Heavyweight Championship for a 10th time

  1. Barrett looked like such a chump here.

Maybe it’s high time The Nexus got themselves a new leader, maybe someone with a lot of straight edge. (wink wink nudge nudge)
