Never Before. Never Again. The Rock and John Cena team up tonight for the first time ever and last time ever. The Miz and R-Truth have run riot over the last few months and even cost John Cena the WWE Championship on multiple occasions. John Cena was given the option to take on The Awesome Truth at Survivor Series and pick any tag team partner that he desired. John Cena chose The Rock who returns to the ring for the first time since Wrestlemania 20. We know that at Wrestlemania it’ll be John Cena vs. The Rock and that has been the main build to this match so will they be able to work as a team against Truth and Miz? We’ll find out tonight.

CM Punk has been asking for another shot at the WWE Championship held by Alberto Del Rio but Punk was told by head of talent relations and interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis that Punk can have a title match if Alberto Del Rio allows him to. It just took Punk to lock Del Rio in the anaconda vice to accept the match and it is on for Survivor Series. Big Show will also be getting a shot Mark Henry and the World Heavyweight Championship after their match ended in a draw following the ring collapsing. The two will go one on one again but this time the ring will be reinforced to make sure that this match goes the distance.

The Divas Championship will be on the line as Beth Phoenix defends against Eve who slapped Beth on a Raw segment a few weeks ago. The only other title match tonight will be Dolph Ziggler defending the United States Championship against John Morrison. There hasn’t been a lot of build to that match to be honest, it was just announced. It won’t be Dolph Zigglers only match tonight though as he will also be a part of a traditional Survivor Series match. He takes the place of Christian on Wade Barretts team that also features Jack Swagger, Hunico and Cody Rhodes. They will be taking on Randy Orton’s team which also consists of Sheamus, Sin Cara, Kofi Kingston and Mason Ryan. This match brings together rivalries such as Randy Orton and Wade Barrett and Sin Cara and Hunico (the previous black Sin Cara).

In a dark match prior to the event Santino defeated Jinder Mahal.

The show starts with a video package, first focusing on the history of Survivor Series and then moving on to The Rock and John Cena who team up tonight.

Michael Cole welcomes us to Madison Square Garden, he’s joined by Jerry “The King” Lawler and Booker T.

John Laurinaitis comes out to kick off the show, he’s the vice President of talent reltations and the interim general manager of Raw. He tells us that it’s his ten year anniversary in the WWE. That’s all he came out to say.

Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. John Morrison – United States Championship match

This is the second PPV match between these two men. The United States Championship has never changed hands at a Survivor Series event. John Morrison previously beat Dolph Ziggler at Hell In A Cell 2009. Vickie Guerrero is in the corner of Ziggler. This will be the first of two matches for Dolph Ziggler who also wrestled twice at last months Vengeance event. Ziggler is 1-2 at Survivor Series, john Morrison is 1-4. A “we want Ryder” chant breaks out as the bell rings. Ziggler takes down Morrison who then chases the United States Champion out of the ring. Back in the ring and Morrison hits an armbar but Dolph gets out of it and lays into John in the corner. Ziggler hits a nice dropkick and then a headlock takedown. Ziggler counters a hiptoss and Morrison counters a dropkick before catapulting Morrison into the top turnbuckle and clotheslining him out of the ring. Morrison then dives out of the ring with a corkscrew plancha before rolling the US Champion back into the ring.

Vickie Guerrero gets in Morrisons face which distracts him. Ziggler hits Morrison with a neckbreaker as he gets back into the ring for the first near fall of the night. Ziggler hits an elbow drop and nips up before hitting a firemans carry for a two count and then applying a chinlock. The Ryder chants continue and I’ve just noticed that Ziggler is wresting in trunks tonight which is very rare for him. Ziggler slaps Morrison in the face but Morrison forces him into the corner and hits him with lefts and rights before missing with a splash. Ziggler hits a slam for a two count and what’s also interesting is the boo’s for Morrison in this match. Morrison hits a couple of clotheslines and a dropkick before hitting a neckbreaker for a two count. Ziggler takes a cheap shot and then rolls Morrison up for a two count. He then tries for a German suplex but Morrison lands on his feet and then hits a flash kick for a two count. Ziggler locks on a sleeper but Morrison counters it and locks a sleeper of his own on.

Dolph gets out of the sleeper but Morrison hits him with a DDT for a two count. Vickie put Dolph’s foot on the rope there but the referee saw it and sends her to the back! The two men exchange near fall and Ziggler hits a fame-asser for a two count. Morrison hits a running knee to the temple and then attempts starship pain but Dolph gets his knees up. Ziggler then hits the Zigzag and that’s enough for the three! Dolph Ziggler retains his United States Championship tonight! A good match to kick things off between these two men. Ziggler is on a great run at the moment.

Rating: 6.5/10

After the match Vickie joins Dolph who gets on the mic. Ziggler says that it’s not showing off if you back it up every night, which he does. Zack Ruder’s music then hits and Ryder runs out from the back! Ryder hits the ruff-Ryder on Ziggler who heads to the back. Ryder’s hair looks ridiculous, he’s dyed it a strange colour of blonde.

Beth takes the early advantage but Eve hits a neckbreaker and a standing moonsault for a two count. Beth back drops Eve on to the apron where some of the LumberJills try to get involved. Beth then slingshots Eve into the bottom rope and pins her for a two count. Phoenix then applies a camel clutch which Eve gets out of. Eve hits a big boot and then slingshots Beth into the top turnbuckle before hitting a dropkick and a clothesline. Eve looks for a rolling senton but Beth gets her knees up. Beth looks for the glam slam but Eve fights out of it.

Eve applies a headscissors but Beth gets to the bottom rope. Natalya and The Bella Twins distract Eve and Beth rolls her up for a two count. Eve then reverses the pin for a two count. Eve hits a high kick and then goes up to the top but Beth shoves her onto the rope. Beth goes up to the middle rope and looks for a glam slam off the top and hits it! It’s a three count and a win for Beth Phoenix.

CM Punk is backstage when David Otunga tells him that he’s broken laws by attacking Michael Cole. Otunga says that John Laurinaitis would like CM Punk to apologise to Michael Cole tonight. Punk says he’ll think about it after he beats Alberto Del Rio tonight.

The Rock is backstage with a mic. His delivery is different to how it used to be. He reminisces about watching wrestling in Madison Square Garden and then hanging out with Andre The Giant. Rock continues to give a history lesson and then has some words for John Cena.

Team Orton (Randy Orton, Sheamus, Kofi Kingston, Sin Cara & Mason Ryan) vs. Team Barrett (Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler & Hunico) – Traditional Survivor Series match

The heel team huddle but Orton rolls Wade Barrett into the ring before all hell breaks loose. Sin Cara and Kofi dive out at Jack Swagger and Hunico but Sin Cara looks like he botched it and has injured himself. He looked like he caught his head on the bottom rope and that meant his knee smashed into the ring apron. A “we want Ryder” chant breaks out again. They show the replay again, Sin Cara didn’t get over the top rope properly and he’s injured himself. Sin Cara has been eliminated. The announcement has been made, he’s done.

It’s back to four against four and Cody Rhodes gets in the ring against Randy Orton. Orton beat Rhodes at Vengeance last month. Orton hits an uppercut and then tags in Mason Ryan who hits a big shoulder charge. Ryan forces Rhodes into the corner and hits shoulder charges and a running knee. Rhodes exits the ring and regroups before getting back into the ring. Rhodes tags in Hunico who doesn’t look happy about it. Mason forces him into the ring and tags in Kofi Kingston. Hunico backdrops Kofi into the ringpost and pins him for a two count. Hunico tags in Wade Barrett who hits some big right hand son Kofi for a two count. Barrett applies a headlock and then smashes Kingston into the mat for a two count before going back to the chinlock. Kofi hits some right hands and the two men then clothesline each other down to the mat. Barrett tags hunico and Kofi tags in Mason Ryan. Ryan hits a clothesline and two backbreaker before hitting a fallaway slam and a gorilla press slam. Cody Rhodes tags himself in and hits Ryan with a disaster kick and cross-Rohdes for the three! Mason Ryan has been eliminated.

Kofi hits a pendulum kick on Barrett and then one for Swagger but Barrett drops Kofi with a big boot. Barrett hits wasteland and that’s enough for the three. Kofi Kingston has been eliminated.

Randy Orton goes right after Barrett, forces him onto the apron and then looks for the hangmans DDT but Barrett counters and tags in Hunico. Hunico hits a suicide dive and rolls Orton back in for a two count. Hunico tags in Swagger who hits Orton with right hands and kicks. Cody tags back in and hits a snapmare and then applies a chinlock but Orton gets out of it. Cody hits a face-first suplex and then applies a hammerlock. Cody Rhodes has really grown on me over the past year. Orton launches Rhodes across the ring and then tags in Sheamus. Rhodes tags Swagger but sheamus hits him with clotheslines and right hands. Sheamus heads to the top and hits a shoulder tackle. Sheamus then disposes of Hunico before hitting Swagger with a backbreaker. Sheamus looks for the Celtic cross but Swagger counters. Sheamus disposes of Wade Barrett who got involved and then goes back to work on Swagger. Sheamus hits Swagger with repeated knees and the referee disqualifies him! Sheamus has been eliminated.

It’s four against one now as Orton is in the minority. Sheamus drop Jack Swagger with a brogue kick before he leaves and Orton pins him for the three! Jack Swagger has been eliminated. Rhodes goes right to work on Orton as Hunico and Wade Barrett watch on. Rhodes lays in the boots and mocks Orton. Orton fires out of the corner with a clothesline and a powerslam. Orton then hits the hangmans DDT but gets distracted by Wade Barrett. Revenge for Barrett as Orton beat him at Survivor Series last year.

Alberto Del Rio is backstage talking to The Bella twins. John Laurinaitis arrives and asks Del Rio if he’s taking his match seriously. Del Rio says tonight will be the first of many title defences in Madison Square Garden. Alberto leaves and Laurinaitis gets to texting on his phone.

We’re shown the ringside crew adding more support to the ring.

Mark Henry (c) vs. The Big Show – World Heavyweight Championship match

This is the third PPV match between these two men, Mark Henry won the first at Money In The Bank earlier this year and they drew the second at Vengeance last month. Big Show has a 3-7 record at Survivor Series PPV’s, Mark Henry is 1-4. Big Show forces Mark Henry to the mat in the early going. Henry retreats out of the ring before slowly getting back in where Big Show hits a waistlock takedown. A “D-lo Brown” chant breaks out. Big Show hits an armdrag and once again Mark Henry retreats. Henry gets back into the ring and Big Show looks frustrated. This one has been a slow match so far. Henry looks reluctant to get into this match. After the match Henry wraps a steel chair around Big Show’s ankle and looks to hit a Vader bomb but Big Show slides out of the way. Big Show then drops Mark Henry with a WMD punch. A “Daniel Bryan” chant breaks out. Michael Cole has already said that Bryan isn’t here tonight. Big Show grabs the chair and wraps it around Mark Henry’s foot which makes me think this is leading to a chair match at TLC. Big show hits a legdrop and Henry screams in agony. The fans chant for Daniel Bryan but due to the injuries inflicted by Mark Henry, he isn’t there tonight. Henry thinks his ankle is broken as they load him on to a stretcher.

Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. CM Punk – WWE Championship match

The only previous PPV match between these two men was when Del Rio cashed in Money In The bank and beat CM Punk for the WWE Championship at Summerslam. The crowd break out in a “Howard Finkel” chant which gets a few tears out of The Fink! The bell rings and a “we want ice creams” chant breaks out. Punk hits the first knockdown and a “Colt Cabana” chant breaks out. Del Rio hits a headlock takedown but Punk hits an arm drag to take the advantage. Punk applies an armbar and then a hammerlock before hitting a snapmare and a stomp. I like the set for this show with big screens showing who is wrestling. Punk hits another arm drag and looks to lock on the anaconda vice but Del Rio squirms out of it and to the outside.

Del Rio hits kicks and right hands but misses with a splash in the corner. Punk hits an Irish whip and a dropkick which causes Alberto to leave the ring again. There’s a video package next for the main event. All roads lead to Wrestlemania.

The Rock & John Cena vs. The Awesome Truth (R-Truth & The Miz)

This is a first. None of these four men wrestled at Survivor Series last year. As Survivor Series records go The Miz is 1-2, R-Truth is 0-3 if you count his loss as K-Kwik or 0-2 if you don’t. John Cena has an awesome 6-0 record at Survivor Series and The Rock is 7-2 as he goes into his tenth Survivor Series match. The Rocks last wrestling match was at Wrestlemania 20 back in 2004, 7 and a half years ago in losing handicap match against Evolution. Rock’s last PPV win was at Wrestlemania 19 against Steve Austin. rock starts the match against The Miz and takes him down early before hitting an arm drag and then one for R-Truth before disposing of him. Rocky rolls Miz up for a two count causing Miz to retreat. R-Truth wants in and The Rock tells him to just bring it. Miz tags Truth. Rocky applies a headlock which goes on for ages and the two men exchange arm bars. The Rock ducks some kicks and then hits a right hand of his own.

The Rock hits a bridging German suplex but the referee doesn’t see the pin as he sees to John Cena who is chasing The Miz off. Rock isn’t happy and over the other side Miz wants the tag. Truth tags in Miz as a “fruity pebbles” chant breaks out. Miz wants Cena and The Rock tags him in, slapping Cena’s own hand into his face. Cena is only behind Triple H and The Undertaker for most PPV main events up to now. Cena hits a snapmare and then a monkey flip in the corner before dropping Miz with a dropkick. Miz tags in R-Truth but Cena hits him with shoulder charges and a side suplex. Cena looks to hit the five knuckle shuffle but instead gets in the face of his tag team partner. Truth slides Cena into the ring, pins him for a two count and then tags in Miz who hits Cena with a DDT for a two count. Miz hits his trademark clothesline in the corner on Cena and Truth then takes a cheap shot. Miz gets a two count and then tags in R-Truth. Awesome Truth hit a double suplex for a two count and Truth applies a front facelock. Truth beats Cena down in the corner and then distracts the referee so Miz can get some cheap shots in. Truth tags in Miz who hits some left hands but Cena fires back only to run into a clothesline for a two count. Miz tags in Truth who drops an elbow for a two count. Truth hits a leg drop for another two count and then heads to the top and hits a cross body but Cena rolls through and looks for an attitude adjustment but Truth counters and hits a sit-out face first suplex for a two count.

And that was Survivor Series 2011. All things considered there was more good than bad. It started well with two very talented wrestlers. Dolph Ziggler retained the United States Championship against John Morrison in a match that had no build really. It was a pretty clean victory for Ziggler which makes me think that they won’t have a rematch. With plenty of midcarders and no brand split it means anyone could be up next for Ziggler. Beth Phoenix then beat Eve Torres with a glam slam off the top rope to retain the Divas Championship. This match wasn’t great but no worse than I expected. Beth should hold the Championship forever. Eve is much improved but she isn’t quite in Beths league yet. It’s a bit of a low point in the Divas division as there aren’t many top end divas who can compete with Beth. Hopefully this changes soon.

Team Barrett then beat Team Orton in a surprising result. I fancied Orton and Sheamus to come out on top of this one. It was Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes with the win though and that is a big rub for them. Hopefully they capitalise on the win. Sin Cara botched his way out of the match which was ridiculous. I kind of feel sorry for him but he’s so bad. You know there’s a botch coming in every match. It’ll take a lot to recover from this for him. Good match though, I wish there were more traditional Survivor Series matches on the card. Mark Henry retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Big Show but lost by disqualification. This was pretty bad but again, no worse than expected. It is a spectacle to see the two big men going at it but I don’t think in 2011 it’s what you want to see. Henry retains and I can only see this feud continuing.

CM Punk won the WWE Championship from Alberto Del Rio and although I am happy with the result as I am a big CM Punk fan, it does feel like the title is getting thrown about like a hot potato. I’d like to see Punk have a long reign now. I do feel a little sorry for Alberto Del Rio as he’s had a couple of short title reigns. Decent match between these two though. In the main event The Rock and John Cena defeated The Miz and R-Truth. This match was a lot of fun. The Rock got all his moves in and the dynamic between he and Cena was great. It’s good to see The Rock back. Not much more to be said about this, Truth and Miz are great cowardly heels, this match worked well and was a good warm-up for The Rock for Wrestlemania.
