A video package kicks us off with champions and challengers staking their claim. The package then focuses on Seth Rollins and his matches with Sting and John Cena.

Michael Cole welcomes us to the show.

Ryback (c) vs. Kevin Owens – Intercontinental Championship match

Background: Kevin Owens has had his sights on the Intercontinental Championship and made no secret of it. He cost Ryback a match against Seth Rollins on Smackdown a couple of weeks ago and Ryback accepted his challenge for tonight.

Previous PPV matches: It’s a first PPV match between these two men.

Night Of Champions Record: Both men make their Night Of Champions debut tonight.

Match: Ryback uses his power in the early going, throwing Kevin Owens around the ring and out of it. Owens soon takes the advantage and targets the left should of Ryback. It’s a slow paced match but the two men do seem to have chemistry. Rybacks offence is pretty good. He’s very athletic for a big guy. KO counters the shellshock twice, the second time was with a rake of the eyes. He then rolls Ryback up and gets the 3! Kevin Owens wins the Intercontinental Championship tonight!

Result: Kevin Owens wins the Intercontinental Championship with a roll-up.

Review: Decent enough match to kick things off. They did a good job of telling the story of Rybacks shoulder. Owens was the dastardly heel in the end and won by cheating. But I enjoyed the match, it potentially could’ve been a stinker but turned out decent. I look forward to Kevin Owens title run.

We’re shown some footage of Dolph Ziggler giving Summer Rae a gift on Raw.

Rusev is backstage with Lana. He doesn’t want to be interviewed. Summer Rae is wearing the earrings that Dolph Ziggler bought her.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev

Background: Following a draw at Summerslam, this rivalry continues to get weirder. Summer Rae was seen sneaking into Dolph Zigglers locker room and later ran out screaming claiming that Dolph tried to seduce her. Lana would then leave Ziggler who then bought Summer Rae some earrings. Summer claims that she and Dolph and have been on and off for years. Rusev is tired of Ziggler stealing his women.

Previous PPV matches: These two men wrestled at Summerslam last month but it resulted in a double count out.

Night Of Champions Record: Dolph Ziggler is 2-4 at Night Of Champions whilst Rusev is 1-0.

Match: Dolph starts the match quickly but Rusev soon takes the advantage. Ziggler is one of those guys that loves being thrown around and bumps really well for bigger opponents. Dolph has what looks like a picture of Lana on his crotch, hard to tell though. Lana isn’t at ringside by the way. Summer Rae cheers on Rusev as he lays into Ziggler. Rusev screams at Dolph in Bulgarian throughout, something about Lana. Ziggler fires up with clotheslines and a neckbreaker. There’s some really nice exchanges in this, perfectly timed. Rusev gets a very near fall following a kick to the face and walks around celebrating, thinking he’s won. Ziggler loves the old Shawn Michaels finish, hitting a superkick and landing on his opponent. Summer Rae gets up on the apron but Rusev shoves Dolph into the ropes and Summer crashes into the ring. The referee then sends Summer Rae to the back. Summer throws her shoe at the referee who ducks and the shoe hits Rusev! Dolph then hits the zigzag for the win! A big win for Dolph Ziggler tonight as Rusev continues his awful run of luck.

Result: Dolph Ziggler wins with the zigzag after Summer Rae accidentally hits Rusev with her shoe.

Review: Another decent match here. These two men have told a decent story, the psychology is there. This match was more about the story revolving the match, there was no working of the body part. Dolph wins though but where does Lana fit into the puzzle?

Rating: 6.5/10

Both Nikki Bella and Charlotte are shown warming up backstage. Ric Flair is on hand to wish his daughter luck.

The New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston) (c) vs. The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray & D-Von) – WWE Tag Team Championship match

Background: The Dudley Boys returned the night after Summerslam and have their eyes focused on the Tag Team Champions. They have already put Xavier Woods through a table and since then The New Day have started a “save the tables” petition. They seem keen for the Dudley Boys to not use tables. New Day beat The Prime Time Players to retain their titles on Raw with the winning team announced to take on the Dudley Boys tonight. Bubba Ray and D-Von look to become ten time champions tonight.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first ever tag team match between these two teams.

Night Of Champions Record: Kofi Kingston is 3-3, the other three men make their Night Of Champions debut tonight.

Match: The New Day get on the mic before the match and run down the (fake) list of people who have signed their save the tables petition. Xavier Woods has his hair like Rufio from Hook. Kofi Kingston is too quick for D-Von in the early going. The Dudleys looks for the 3D in the early going but Kofi retreats. The Dudley Boys are really big guys, especially Bubba Ray. He out-powers Big E for a while. Bubba Ray pulls Xavier Woods into the ring at one point but that distracts him for Kofi Kingston to take the advantage for the champions. I love Xavier Woods use of the trombone, it adds a lot of comedy. He plays the Rocky theme at one point. Bubba hets back into it for his team with a Bubba bomb before making the hot tag to D-Von. The Dudleys hit 3D on Kofi but Xavier Woods breaks up the pinfall! That means it’s a DQ win for The Dudley Boys but The New Day keep their titles! After the match The New Day get themselves a table but the Dudley Boys fight them off and 3D Woods through the table!

Result: The Dudley Boys win by disqualification. The New Day take home the titles.

Review: A good match between two fantastic teams. The Dudley Boys aren’t quite what they were 10 years but they are still in good shape and know how to pop the crowd. New Day are a great unit and Xavier Woods adds a lot as the third man. The match could have gone either way but I like New Day as champions so happy to see them win. I fully expect to see a tables match between these two teams down the line.

There’s a video package next showing the Divas Championship run of Nikki Bella, who has now broken the record for longest reign previously held by AJ Lee.

Nikki Bella (c) vs. Charlotte – WWE Divas Championship match

Background: Team PCB took part in a beat the clock challenge following their victory at Summerslam. The winner of the beat the clock challenge would be Nikki Bella’s opponent at Night Of Champions. Charlotte won the match but bought the title match forward a week, looking to end Nikki Bella’s reign before she could break the record. Brie Bella would get involved in the match and Charlotte pinned Brie to win the match. Stephanie McMahon would come out and tell Charlotte that she can’t win the title by pinning Brie but would get another shot at Nikki at Night Of Champions but this time if Nikki gets disqualified or counted out then Charlotte wins the title.

Previous PPV matches: It’s a first singles match on PPV between these two girls.

Night Of Champions Record: Nikki Bella is 0-1 at Night Of Champions, Charlotte makes her debut at the event tonight.

Match: Charlotte is joined by Becky Lynch and Paige whilst Nikki Bella has her sister Brie and Alicia Fox in her corner. Nikki Bella retreats and does some stretches in the early going. The match finally gets going and it’s a back and forth start to the match. Nikki knocks Charlotte off the apron and Charlotte tweaks her knee. Nikki then targets the knee, even suplexing Charlotte into the bottom rope at one point which is pretty effective. Team B.A.D are shown watching from the back. Charlotte is unbeaten on pay per view going into this match. At one point Nikki locks on a brutal looking single leg crab, bending the leg right back whilst kneeling on Charlotte’s neck. Nikki isn’t happy when Brie and Alicia help her out, knowing that she could be disqualified and lose her title. The fight then breaks out with Paige, Becky, Brie and Alicia. Charlotte starts a comeback with chops and a big boot. Nikki looks to hit a forearm off the second rope but Charlotte hits her with a spear! Charlotte then locks on the figure 8 and Nikki taps out! Charlotte wins the Divas Championship tonight! Ric Flair comes out and celebrates with his daughter.

Result: Charlotte wins the Divas Championship bu submission.

Review: This was a really good match from these two girls. Good psychology and they were given time which gave them the opportunity to put on a good match. The standard of women’s wrestling is definitely on the rise and Charlotte looks to be at the forefront of the movement. A huge win for Charlotte who is going to be a big star.

Rating: 7/10

Jojo is backstage with Kevin Owens. Owens says that he feels complete now that he has the Intercontinental Championship.

Over to the Night Of Champions kick-off panel who are in the car park. Renee Young, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton and Booker T are the regular team on the panel. Renee and Corey have goosebumps because of Charlotte winning the Divas Championship. Corey can’t believe KO is the new IC Champion. Booker T is looking forward to seeing who is the mystery partner for Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose.

We’re shown a clip from the kick-off show with Stardust and The Ascension beat Neville and The Lucha Dragons.

Charlotte is backstage celebrating with Ric Flair, Paige and Becky Lynch. Ric is taking the girls out partying!

There’s a video package next showing how we got to the six man tag team match. Mostly built around Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt. But who will be the mystery partner for Reigns and Ambrose?

Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose & Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper & Braun Strowman

Background: This rivalry kicked off with Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt but Luke Harper would re-join the side of Wyatt. Dean Ambrose would help out Reigns but the number would become uneven with the debut of the monstrous Braun Strowman. He has rag-dolled Reigns and Ambrose since joining the Wyatt Family. A six man tag team match was made with Reigns and Ambrose needing to find a partner. The Wyatt’s would take out the likes of Randy Orton and Jimmy Uso as they became potential partners for Ambrose and Reigns.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time six man tag match between these six men.

Night Of Champions Record: Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns are 1-0, Chris Jericho is 1-3, the three Wyatt Family members make their Night Of Champions debut tonight. It’s actually a PPV debut for Braun Strowman.

Match: Chris Jericho is the mystery man! I was expecting Randy Orton to be honest. Dean Ambrose and Luke Harper start the match. The babyface team make quick tags in the early going. Braun Strowman tags in and he towers over Roman Reigns. Braun is dominant but he also looks a little green in there, like he doesn’t know what to do at some points. Reigns hits an impressive powerbomb on Harper at one point. I’m pretty sure we saw Harper powerbomb Reigns in a similar way at Summerslam. Luke Harper is a really good hand, he sort of slips under the radar because he tends to be in a supporting role but he’s very good. The pace quickens as Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose make hot tags but their advantage doesn’t last long and instead it’s Roman Reigns that gets the third hot tag. He hits two superman punches on Braun Strowman and Dean Ambrose then flies off the top to help his partner out. Reigns hits a spear and looks for a second but Chris Jericho tags himself in and hits a lionsault for a near fall. Strowman counters a codebreaker with a dominator and then locks on his bear hug until Jericho passes out. After the match Jericho bumps past Dean Ambrose in what looks like the start of a heel turn for Jericho.

Result: The Wyatt Family win as Chris Jericho passes out from Braun Strowmans bear hug.

Review: This was a decent enough match. It’s a big win for The Wyatt Family but I was surprised to see Chris Jericho lose the match for his team on his big return. You get the feeling they might make a big deal out of Jericho tagging himself in. Strowman was made to look strong and he may get a push off the back of this. Decent enough six man tag but nothing spectacular.

Rating: 6.5/10

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are backstage wishing Seth Rollins luck for his matches. Rollins is ready. Sheamus then shows up and says that he is also ready.

There’s a video package next showing the recent history between Seth Rollins and his opponents for tonight, John Cena and Sting.

Seth Rollins (c) vs. John Cena – WWE United States Championship match

Background: Seth Rollins beat John Cena for the United States Championship at Summerslam. John Cena chose to use his rematch clause at Night Of Champions, knowing that every title must be defended and stacking the odds against Rollins who also has to face Sting on the same night.

Previous PPV matches: This is the third PPV match between these two men, John Cena won at TLC 2014, Seth Rollins won at Summerslam last month.

Night Of Champions Record: Seth Rollins is 1-0, John Cena is 3-3-1.

Match: Seth Rollins is wrestling in his first of two consecutive matches tonight. I expected this match to kick off the show but this is an interesting way of doing things. It’s a back and forth start to the match with neither man getting the clear advantage. Both men counter each others offence for the most part, with plenty of false finishes along the way. Rollins hits a buckle bomb which always looks brutal. There’s a few moves in this, like an inverted suplex, that I’ve never seen Cena do before. Cena hits the top rope fame-asser and an attitude adjustment to win the match! After the match Cena makes sure that Rollins doesn’t escape to the back. He hits him with an attitude adjustment on the outside and then rolls him back into the ring.

Result: John Cena beats Seth Rollins with the attitude adjustment.

Review: This match was good. It felt like it never got into 5th gear, probably because Seth Rollins has another match coming up. It was a good match still, but they have had better matches before. I like Cena winning, I really enjoyed his United States open challenges. It’s definitely taken more to keep Rollins down before too but this is the starter with the main course to follow.

Rating: 7/10

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Sting – WWE World Heavyweight Championship match

Background: Sting named himself as number one contender to the WWE Championship having never won the title in his illustrious career. Seth Rollins earned himself a life-size statue after beating John Cena at Summerslam but Sting not only took the trophy but pushed it into a trash compactor. Sting gets his shot at the biggest title in the business tonight.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first PPV match between these two men.

Night Of Champions Record: Seth Rollins is now 1-1 whilst Sting makes his Night Of Champions debut.

Match: Sting dives at Seth Rollins with a Stinger splash as Rollins is getting to his feet following the Cena attack. Rollins manages to fight out of the scorpion deathlock and scorpion deathdrop. It’s so awesome to see Sting in another WWE match. Sting throws Rollins out of the ring a couple of times which gives Seth time for a breather. The WWE Champion picks up a monitor at one point but Sting makes sure that he doesn’t use it as a weapon. Rollins manages to push Sting off the announce desk and through the Spanish announce desk. That changes the match and gives Seth Rollins the advantage. Sting is really gassed. Rollins hits Sting with a buckle bomb and you can see the referee constantly talking to Sting. Rollins looks for a leapfrog off the top rope but Sting shoves him down to the floor below which looked pretty cool. Sting looks like he’s really struggling now. But he fires up and although he is completely gassed, he doesn’t seem too bad. Rollins hits a second buckle bomb and Sting falls to the mat. Rollins sends him off the ropes and Sting collapses again. The referee calls for a doctor who sees to Sting who can barely get up to his feet. The doctor leaves the ring and Seth looks for a pedigree but Sting counters and locks on the scorpion deathlock! Rollins gets to the bottom rope. Sting locks on the deathlock again but Rollins rolls him up for the three! Seth Rollins wins the match and retains the WWE Championship!

Result: Seth Rollins wins with a roll-up.

Review: not a bad match but it took a real turn with the second buckle bomb. Sting was seriously hurt. I can’t remember the last time a match has nearly been called off due to injury. Rollins wins though and his title reign continues. It was a decent enough match but nothing spectacular. Sting looked like he was struggling before the buckle bomb but things went downhill fast when he got injured. Could it be the last time we ever see Sting wrestle?

Rating: 5.75/10

After the match Sheamus runs out with his Money In The Bank briefcase. He hits Rollins with the brogue kick and then asks the referee to ring the bell. Kane’s music hits and he then walks out from the back! The last time we saw Kane was when Brock Lesnar broke his ankle as Rollins watched on. Kane chokeslams Seth Rollins. Sheamus then gets back in the ring and tells Kane to hit one more chokeslam. Kane chokeslams Sheamus instead!

And that was Night Of Champions 2015. It felt like a good show. There wasn’t a single bad match on the whole show and there was barely an average one. Most matches performed and it’s a really good time for the WWE as they have a very talented roster. With a night so focused on title matches you want to see titles change hands and we got a fee titles changes. Kevin Owens will make a fantastic Intercontinental Champion, Charlotte is a breath of fresh air for the divas division and has had some fantastic matches in NXT. John Cena wins the United States Championship which is great because I really liked his United States open challenges. Chris Jericho returned and looked to have turned heel. Seth Rollins proved that he is a huge star in the business and put on two good matches tonight. But the main talking point coming out of this show is the injury to Sting. Who knows if we will ever get to see him wrestle again but the end of his match was very difficult to watch.

Overall Rating: 65/100 (ranked joint 51st out of 319)

Match Of The Night: Seth Rollins vs. John Cena / Nikki Bella vs. Charlotte
Worst Match Of The Night: Seth Rollins vs. Sting
Surprise Of The Night: Chris Jericho returns as the mystery partner

  1. SPOILER: When Rusev and Lana announce their real-life engagement on TMZ, not only did it end their storyline with Zigglypuff, it also killed Summer Rae’s momentum in the process, and she NEVER regained it.

That proves Summer Rae is the Marty Jannetty of the Beautiful Fierce Females (the two Shawn Michaels in that stable were Charlotte and Sasha).
