The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) (c) vs. Enzo & Big Cass vs. The Vaudevillians (Aiden English & Simon Gotch) vs. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson – Fatal four way match for the WWE Tag Team Championships

Background: Gallows and Anderson attacked The New Day after their match with the Vaudevillians on Raw, staking their claim to the tag team championships. Enzo Amore returned following his concussion suffered at the hands of Simon Gotch. The Four teams have been involved in various 8 man tag team matches and as a result a fatal four way match was made for Money In The Bank.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time fatal four way match between these four teams.

Money In The Bank Record: Kofi Kingston is 0-4 at Money In The Bank, Big E is 0-2 and everybody else in the match make their Money In The Bank debut tonight.

Match: There’s plenty of smack-talking before this match with Enzo Amore and The New Day doing their thing. Xavier Woods calls The New Day the “Elite team” in the industry today. The crowd liked that reference to “The Elite” making their way in Ring Of Honor and New Japan. Karl Anderson and Kofi Kingston start off the match. Enzo & Cass and The Vaudevillians are looking for their first PPV victories tonight. The New Day have held the Tag Team Championships for nearly a year now. Enzo is really over. He and Kofi help each other out and then go at it against each other. Then there’s an interesting showdown between Big E and Big Cass. It soon breaks down and all 8 men get into it! Enzo Amore and Kofi Kingston take most of the beating in this match. Big Cass is the man that makes the hot tag and clears the ring of everybody. The crowd think there’s a botch with a count but there isn’t. Kofi tries to hit trouble in paradise on Enzo who falls on the floor and they make a botch of it. The Vaudevillians hit the whirling dervish on Kofi but that pinfall gets saved. Gallows and Anderson hit the magic killer on English but Big E gets involved and The New Day take out Anderson before pinning Aiden English for the three!

Result: The New Day retain their WWE Tag Team Championships by pinfall.

Review: This was a great way to open the show. Loads of energy, loads of action and a really fun match. There were times you thought this match could have been won by any of the four teams in the match but in the end it was The New Day that retained again. The tag team division is really hot right now especially when you consider the four teams in this match as well as The Usos, Dudley Boys, Lucha Dragons, Golden Truth and Breezango. The New Day are getting closer to breaking the all time record as tag team champions and I can see them doing it. Great match to open the show.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin

Background: This is a feud that has been going on for a couple of months now. Corbin and Ziggler have both recorded a win over the other on pay per view kick-off shows and now they have the rubber match.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time singles match on the main show of a pay per view.

Money In The Bank Record: Dolph Ziggler is 1-4 at Money In The Bank, Corbin makes his debut at the event.

Match: This match starts cagey but Ziggler soon quickens the pace. Corbin takes the advantage and the pace slows right back down. A “boring” chant breaks out which you don’t hear many of these days. Corbin has very similar tights to Braun Strowman. Ziggler fires up again and the crowd get back into it. Corbin counters a fame-asser and a superkick and hits a nice clothesline. Corbin hits deep six on the outside. This is Corbin’s second PPV match and he won his first so he’s hoping to stay unbeaten on pay per view tonight. Ziggler counters end of days and hits a superkick for a near fall. Corbin crotches Ziggler on the top rope and then hits end of days for the victory.

Result: Baron Corbin wins by pinfall.

Review: This match was ok. Corbin wrestles a really slow pace and it’s hard to keep the crowd interested when that’s the case. Ziggler is one of the best comeback guys in the business and the crowd always gets behind him. Corbin wins cleanly so I guess this will be the end of this feud and they can go on to different things.

Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs. Natlaya & Becky Lynch

Background: This started when Dana Brooke helped Charlotte to beat Natalya at Extreme Rules last month. Becky Lynch has since come to the aid of her old friend Natalya, evening the odds. The tag team match was then made for Money In The Bank.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time tag team match between these two teams.

Money In The Bank Record: Natalya is 0-1 at Money In The Bank, the other three girls make their MITB debut tonight. It’s a PPV debut for Dana Brooke.

Match: Charlotte goes into this match undefeated on pay per view, this is her 13th match. Natalya and Dana start the match. Charlotte and Becky soon get involved. Natalya and Becky hit a Hart Attack on Charlotte. Natalya and Becky take the early advantage but some double teaming from the heel team soon puts them on the front foot. Charlotte is one of three wrestlers to have wrestled on every PPV so far in 2016, the others being Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho. Dana talks a lot of smack in the match. Becky nearly wins the match for her team with a missile dropkick. Charlotte then nearly brats Natalya by pinning her with her feet on the ropes. Dana Brook breaks up a sharpshooter attempt and then throws Natalya into Becky. Charlotte hits natural selection on Natalya and pins her for the three!

Result: Charlotte and Dana Brooke win when Charlotte pins Natalya.

Review: This match was ok. I would have preferred to see a Women’s Championship match but the tag wasn’t too bad. Dana Brooke is entertaining but I’m not sure of her talent in the ring yet. Charlotte was the star of the match, she’s on a whole other level to any other girl in the company which is saying a lot considering how much better the standard of women’s wrestling is at the moment. Natalya cries after the match. I don’t get why she cries so much.

Apollo Crews vs. Sheamus

Background: Apollo Crews was backstage talking about the new era in WWE when Sheamus, who wasn’t happy about losing his Money In The Bank ladder match qualifying match to Sami Zayn, attacked Apollo. Sheamus has since said he wants to put an end to the new era of superstars.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time PPV match between these two men.

Money In The Bank Record: Sheamus is 3-3 at Money In The Bank, Apollo makes his PPV debut tonight.

Match: Sheamus attacks Apollo before the bell has even rung. The bell does ring and the match starts a quick pace. Apollo takes the advantage early and clotheslines Sheamus out of the ring. Sheamus hits a backbreaker on the outside and has the advantage from there. There’s a really nice camera shot from the outside as Sheamus applies a sleeper. Crews hits a belly to belly on Sheamus over the top and out of the ring and then follows it up with a moonsault. Apollo heads to the top but sheamus hits white noise on Crews off the top for a near fall. Sheamus complains to the referee and Apollo rolls him up for the three!

Result: Apollo Crews wins by pinfall.

Review: This match wasn’t great. There were a few good moves but generally it was quite a slow match. Apollo Crews is a talented guy and has some explosive moves but maybe Sheamus wasn’t the best opponent for him as they wrestle such different styles. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

John Cena vs. AJ Styles

Background: This all started when John Cena said that the new era must go through him. We got a dream showdown with John Cena and AJ styles which was interrupted by Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. AJ looked to stand beside Cena but instead cheap-shotted him and beat John down. Since then the two men have been in a war of words, AJ saying that Cena bury’s guys like AJ whilst Cena saying that AJ couldn’t beat him without The Club behind him. Styles chose to sign a contract which banned Gallows and Anderson from ringside.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match between these two men.

Money In The Bank Record: John Cena is 4-2 at Money In The Bank, AJ makes his MITB debut tonight.

Match: The crowd are really into this match as it gets underway. Lots of duelling chants. The two men go back and forth with neither getting the advantage for too long. They both have a cockiness too in a “is that the best you’ve got” way. Styles manages to take the advantage and hits a big knee drop and suplex. Cena hits a back body drop and Styles gets a lot of height on it. Cena starts to fire up with a couple of shoulder charges but Styles counters the side suplex and hits a Pele kick. AJ counters an attitude adjustment attempt with some stiff elbows. Cena avoids a forearm and locks on the STF but AJ gets to the bottom rope. Cena attempts a top rope attitude adjustment but AJ counters. AJ then looks for a phenomenal forearm but Cena catches him. AJ then manages to counter another attitude adjustment attempt and locks on the calf crusher! Cena gets to the bottom rope. Cena hits a weak five knuckle shuffle and then the attitude adjustment but AJ Styles kicks out of the pinfall attempt! AJ hits a Pele kick and the Styles clash but Cena kicks out of the pinfall! There have been a lot of false finishes in this one. Both men continue to counter each others finishers and the referee gets accidentally knocked out by AJ’s boot. Cena hits an AA and pins him for longer than three but the referee is out. Gallows and Anderson then come out and hit Cena with the magic killer! They roll AJ on top of Cena and the referee gets up and counts the 3!

Result: AJ Styles wins by pinfall.

Review: This was a really good match between two of the best. There were lots of false finishes in a match that could have gone either way. Gallows and Anderson get AJ the win which means this feud should continue. And I’m all for it. These guys have a lot of chemistry though and Styles might just be the best in the company right now, although Seth Rollins is in the picture too.

Dean Ambrose vs. Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens vs. Alberto Del Rio – Money In The Bank Ladder Match

Background: All six of these men won qualifying match to get into this match. Since then they have all had plenty to say to one another. Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho’s feud has raged on for a few months whilst Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been in a rivalry for a long time. Alberto Del Rio is the only man in this match to have won the match before.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time 6 man match between these men.

Money In The Bank Record: Dean Ambrose is 0-3 at Money In The Bank, Cesaro is 0-2, Chris Jericho is 0-3, Kevin Owens is 0-1 and Alberto Del Rio is 2-2 and Sami Zayn makes his Money In The Bank PPV debut tonight.

Match: The bell rings and all six men pair off. Jericho & Ambrose, Zayn & Owens and then Cesaro and Del Rio. Del Rio and Cesaro is a nice match-up of guys we haven’t seen go at it before. Jericho is the man most keen to get the ladders into the ring and win the match. Jericho wipes out Cesaro using the ladder. Cesaro does get his shots in though and hits Jericho, Ambrose and Del Rio with uppercuts. Owens then disposes of Cesaro and hits the same three men with bowling balls! Zayn then hits everyone with helluva kicks before becoming the first man to climb a ladder but Alberto Del Rio pulls him down. Del Rio hits Jericho with a stomp off the ladder and Jericho sells his leg which suggests something might have happened there. Cesaro hits a big springboard uppercut on Cesaro, bouncing off the ladder onto the middle rope. The match is chaos for the entirety with all six men getting their shots in and then someone else taking over. They all hit their finishers at one point or another. Cesaro hits the big swing on Jericho before tossing him into a ladder. Zayn hits a blue thunder drive on KO onto a ladder. All six men then battle on ladders and one by one they all fall off until Sami Zayn is left alone but Chris Jericho manages to save the match. Zayn is left alone again but Kevin Owens powerbombs him down onto a ladder. Owens then climbs the ladder but Dean Ambrose pushes him down on to a ladder and then unhooks the briefcase!

Result: Dean Ambrose wins Money In The Bank.

Review: This was a good match. It wasn’t the best Money In The Bank ladder match ever but it wasn’t the worst. It got to a point where I was ready for it to finish so it probably went on a bit too long. A good match though and Dean Ambrose winning the contract will be very interesting with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins battling for the WWE Championship.

Rusev (c) vs. Titus O’Neil – WWE United States Championship match

Background: Titus O’Neil came to the aid of Kalisto following a match between Kalisto and Rusev on Smackdown. O’Neil would then take offence when Rusev claimed to be representing American since becoming US Champion. A match was made between the two.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time PPV meeting between these two men.

Money In The Bank Record: Titus O’Neil is 1-1 at Money In The Bank events, Rusev is 1-0.

Match: This match starts with both men going to the outside and knocking each other down with clotheslines! O’Neil then tosses Rusev into the barricade right in front of Titus’s sons. Rusev soon takes the advantage and hits a spinning heel kick and senton as Lana watches on. Titus fires back with a comeback and hits a spinebuster for a two count. It’s a little back and forth but eventually Rusev locks on the accolade and it’s all over.

Result: Rusev wins by submission.

Review: not a very good match. I don’t know why, something didn’t quite click here. I don’t think Titus is at Rusev’s level. Rusev wins cleanly enough which will mean that this feud is over.

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth Rollins – WWE World Heavyweight Championship match

Background: Seth Rollins returned at Extreme Rules and took out Roman Reigns after he’d retained the WWE Championship. Seth Rollins never lost the championship and had to vacate it last year due to injury. Shane McMahon made the match between the two for tonight.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time singles pay per view match between these two men.

Money In The Bank Record: Roman Reigns is 0-2, Seth Rollins is 2-0 at this event.

Match: The match starts in explosive fashion. Seth tries to take the advantage with his speed but Roman out-powers him. The crowd are more on the side of Seth Rollins in this one. The fight goes to the outside where Reigns smashes Rollins off the announce desk. Rollins throws Reigns into the ring steps and somehow they haven’t got counted out. Reigns hits a sit-out crucifix powerbomb which I’ve never seen him use before. Reigns counters a pedigree and hits a superman punch for a near fall. Rollins hits a buckle bomb in this match which is a move that always makes me cringe after Sting never recovered from it, essentially retiring him. Seth hits a big superplex and then rolls up and hits a falcon arrow for a near fall. Plenty of false finishes in this one. Rollins hits a second buckle bomb but Reigns bounces out of the corner and hits a superman punch! Reigns looks to spear Rollins through the barricade but Seth moves and Roman hits the barricade. The barricade doesn’t give away much so that must have hurt. A doctor comes out to check on Reigns. Rollins rolls Reigns back into the ring and looks for a pedigree but Reigns drives him into the referee, knocking him down. Two referee bumps in one night? Reigns hits a spear and pins Rollins but the referee is slow to make the count and Seth kicks out. Reigns looks for another spear but Rollins counters, hitting a pedigree! Reigns kicks out at 2. Rollins hits another pedigree and hooks the leg for the three! Seth Rollins wins the WWE Championship!

Result: Seth Rollins the WWE Championship wins by pinfall.

Review: This was a great main event. Both men put on a show in a match that could’ve gone either way. Rollins is such a talent in the ring. I’m a little surprised to see Seth Rollins win the WWE Championship and even more surprised to see Roman Reigns lose clean. But is the night over?

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Dean Ambrose – WWE World Heavyweight Championship match

Background: Dean Ambrose is cashing in his Money In The Bank contract!

Previous PPV matches: This is the 5th PPV match between these two men, Rollins has won 3 and Ambrose 1.

Money In The Bank Record: Dean Ambrose is 1-3, Seth Rollins is 3-0.

Match: Dean Ambrose hits dirty deeds and it’s all over! Dean Ambrose wins the WWE Championship!

Result: Dean Ambrose wins the match and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship!

Review: Well this was short and sweet but all three men have been WWE Champion at some point tonight. It’ll be Dean Ambrose that leaves with the gold though, winning the WWE Championship for the first time!
