The show kicks off with a video based around the newest WWE 2K game and fantasy warfare. Goldberg and Brock Lesnar get a big billing as does the battle between Raw and Smackdown.
Mauro Ranallo welcomes us to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
Team Raw (Charlotte, Bayley, Sasha Banks, Nia Jax & Alicia Fox) vs. Team Smackdown (Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Carmella, Naomi & Natalya) – Traditional Survivor Series match
Background: The first match tonight is a women’s Survivor Series match between the girls. The first of three Raw vs. Smackdown matches. Both teams have issues amongst them, especially considering Charlotte’s recent rivalries with Bayley and Sasha Banks and the issues between Alexa bliss and Becky Lynch and Carmella and Nikki Bella. Nikki Bella was supposed to be in this match but was found taken out backstage. Nikki doesn’t know who attacked her but Natalya steps in to replace her.
Previous PPV matches: This is a first match between these ten girls.
Survivor Series Record: Charlotte is 1-0 at Survivor Series, Alicia Fox is 1-2, Naomi is 1-1 and Natalya is 3-1. The other girls all make their Survivor Series debut tonight.
Match: Alicia Fox and Carmella kick off the match, it’s the first time we’ve seen them in the ring against one another. Alicia hits her trademark northern lights suplex for a near fall. Becky Lynch tags in and asks for Bayley, which she gets but Charlotte quickly tags herself in. Sasha Banks then tags herself in and the Raw team start fighting amongst themselves. All hell then breaks loose and all ten girls get into it! Nia Jax clears the ring for her team. Nia Jax officially tags in and wipes out every member of Team Smackdown. Dana Brooke takes a cheap shot at Carmella and Alicia Fox hits the scissors kick for the first elimination of the match. Alexa Bliss quickly disposes of Foxy with Twisted Bliss. Nia Jax tosses Naomi about on the outside and the referee counts Naomi out! Sasha Banks does well to fight off both Natalya and Alexa Bliss. Natalya rolls Sasha Banks up to eliminate her. Natalya locks the sharpshooter on Charlotte but Charlotte gets to the ropes to break it. Charlotte then hits a running boot on Natalya to eliminate her.
Becky and Alexa Bliss get into it so Nia Jax double suplexes both. Becky and Bliss double team Nia and Becky then locks the Dis-arm her on Nia who taps out! Charlotte hits a running boot on Alexa Bliss to eliminate her. We’re down to Charlotte and Bayley against Becky Lynch. Bayley eventually hits the Bayley To Belly on Becky and pins her for the three! Bayley and Charlotte win the match for Raw! After the match Charlotte attacks Bayley, throwing her into the barricade repeatedly.
Result: Bayley and Charlotte win the match for Team Raw.
Alicia Fox eliminates Carmella
Alexa Bliss eliminates Alicia Fox
Nia Jax eliminates Naomi
Natalya eliminates Sasha Banks
Charlotte eliminates Natalya
Becky Lynch eliminates Nia Jax
Charlotte eliminates Alexa Bliss
Bayley eliminates Becky Lynch
Review: This was a great match. I enjoyed the psychology and all the back stories that played into the match. It looks like Charlotte and Bayley will be feuding going forward. Who attacked Nikki Bella? I guess that story will develop over the coming weeks. This was a great match though and a really good traditional Survivor Series match.
James Ellsworth is backstage when he bumps into Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Gallows and Anderson rip into Ellsworth, making plenty of chin jokes. Mick Foley comes to the defence of Ellsworth. Foley tries to lure Ellsworth over to Raw but James is loyal to Smackdown. Braun Strowman arrives and Ellsworth scarpers.
The Miz (c) vs. Sami Zayn – Intercontinental Championship match
Background: A cross-brand match was set up for the Intercontinental Championship between Dolph Ziggler and Sami Zayn. Zayn beat Rusev to get his opportunity. The Miz would then beat Dolph Ziggler to become Intercontinental Champion.
Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match between these two men.
Survivor Series Record: The Miz is 2-4 at Survivor Series, Sami Zayn makes his Survivor Series debut tonight.
Match: Sami Zayn out-wrestles The Miz in the early going, tying Miz up in knots and causing him to retreat to the outside. The fans are definitely in the corner of Zayn who is from Toronto. Miz drags Zayn out of the ring and bounces his face off the apron. Zayn hits a moonsault off the barricade and Maryse then get sin his face allowing Miz to hit a chop block. Back in the ring and Miz works the left leg of his challenger. Zayn starts a comeback by clotheslining Miz out of the ring and then diving out on to the Intercontinental Champion. Zayn hits a Michinoku Driver for a near fall. Miz looks for the figure four but Zayn rolls him up for a near fall. Zayn hits a blue thunder bomb for a near fall and then looks for the helluva kick but Miz avoids it and looks for the skull-crushing finale but Zayn rolls Miz up for a near fall. Miz avoids another helluva kick and then locks on the figure four but Zayn counters it and they roll into the ropes to force the break. Sami Zayn then locks on a figure four and after a while the bell rings! Zayn think he’s won but it was Maryse ringing the bell! Miz then rolls up Sami and gets the 3! The Miz retains his Intercontinental Championship tonight!
Result: The Miz wins by pinfall.
Review: This was a decent enough match. It would have been surprising to see Sami Zayn win the Intercontinental Championship tonight. It was a creative way to end the match with Maryse ringing the bell. Miz retains his title and will go back to Smackdown.
Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles are backstage and aren’t seeing eye to eye. Ambrose is looking forward to his WWE Championship match at TLC next month. Shane McMahon interrupts the bickering and wants Styles and Ambrose to be on the same page.
There’s an ad for some new wrestling figures and a shark cage.

Team Raw (The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E), Enzo & Big Cass, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, Sheamus & Cesaro, The Shining Stars (Primo & Epico)) vs. Team Smackdown (Heath Slater & Rhyno, The Usos (Jimmy & Jey), American Alpha (Chad Gable & Jason Jordan), Breezango (Tyler Breeze & Fandango) & The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley)) – Traditional Survivor Series match
Background: This is the second traditional Survivor Series match pitting Raw vs. Smackdown. This match features five tag teams from both brands and when one member of a tag team is eliminated, the entire tag team must go.
Previous PPV matches: This is a first. It’s been a long time since Survivor Series has featured one of these matches.
Survivor Series Record: Kofi Kingston is 1-5, Big E is 1-1, Sheamus is 2-3, Cesaro is 1-1, Primo & Epico are 0-2, Heath Slater is 1-1, Jey Uso is 1-2, Jimmy Uso is 0-3, Tyler Breeze is 1-0 and everybody else make their Survivor Series debut tonight.
Match: 20 men in one match, this could be chaos. Big E starts the match against Fandango who throws fashion tickets at everyone at both teams. New Day then hit Fandango with the midnight hour which is enough for the three! Breezango are eliminated early! Jimmy Uso then hits Kofi Kingston with a superkick and pins him for the three! New Day are eliminated in a massive shocker! The match then settles and plenty of men from both teams get involved. Mojo Rawley has some unique offence. This is a PPV in-ring debut for American Alpha. Zack Ryder gets a lot of offence in on Karl Anderson. Gallows & Anderson hit Ryder with the magic killer to eliminate The Hype Bros. Sheamus beats down Chad Gable. I’d be surprised to see Primo and Epico win this match. American Alpha hit an electric chair/bulldog on Epico which is enough to eliminate him. The remaining 12 men get into it in the ring and then takes the fight in and out of the ring. Enzo and Big Cass are left in the ring with Rhyno and Heath Slater and it’s the Raw team that take the advantage.
Everyone takes it in turns to dive to the outside. Cesaro then swings Jason Jordan. Gallows and Anderson hit Jason Jordan with the magic killer to eliminate American Alpha. Team Raw starts to implode as Sheamus winds up Cesaro and Gallows then knocks Enzo off the apron. Rhyno then gores Gallows to eliminate Gallows & Anderson. Enzo and Big Cass then quickly eliminate Rhyno and Heath Slater. The Usos superkick Enzo and Jey splashes Enzo to eliminate him. We’re down to Sheamus & Cesaro against The Usos. Sheamus gets a very near fall following a brogue kick. Sheamus makes a hot tag to Cesaro who hits uppercuts from all over the place. He hits Jey Uso with a 619 and then a cross body for a near fall. Cesaro swings Jey around and then looks for the sharpshooter but Jimmy Uso breaks it up. Jey locks on a single crab but Cesaro manages to reverse it into a sharpshooter. Sheamus hits Jimmy with a brogue kick and Jey taps out to the sharpshooter!
Result: Sheamus and Cesaro win for Team Raw.
Kofi Kingston eliminates Fandango (Breezango)
Jimmy Uso eliminates Kofi Kingston (The New Day)
Luke Gallows eliminates Zack Ryder (The Hype Bros)
Jason Jordan eliminates Epico (The Shining Stars)
Karl Anderson eliminates Jason Jordan (American Alpha)
Rhyno eliminates Luke Gallows (Gallows & Anderson)
Enzo Amore eliminates Rhyno (Heath Slater & Rhyno)
Jey Uso eliminates Enzo Amore (Enzo & Big Cass)
Review: This was a fun match but a lot of the eliminations were very sudden. Sheamus and Cesaro winning was interesting, it puts them in a good spot for a Raw Tag Team Championship match. New Day were surprisingly eliminated right off the bat. This was a fun match though, similar to the matches were used to see in the 80’s Survivor Series events.
Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley are backstage celebrating their victories tonight. They reward Sheamus & Cesaro with a Raw Tag Team Championship match tomorrow night on Raw.
There’s an ad for TLC, the next PPV which takes place in 2 weeks time.
There’s a video package next for the Cruiserweight Championship match between Kalisto and Brian Kendrick.
Brian Kendrick (c) vs. Kalisto – Cruiserweight Championship match
Background: Mick Foley offered to put the whole cruiserweight division on the line if Smackdown could find a challenger for Brian Kendrick’s title. Kalisto is the man to take up the offer.
Previous PPV matches: This is a first time PPV match between these two men.
Survivor Series Record: Kalisto is 1-0 at Survivor Series, Brian Kendrick makes his Survivor Series debut tonight.
Match: Kalisto takes the early advantage, quickening the pace and taking it to Brian Kendrick. Kalisto hits springboard and dives, he’s got some impressive moves. Kendrick hits a dropkick and a side suplex for a near fall. Kendrick looks for sliced bread #2 but Kalisto counters. Plenty of near falls in this one. Kendrick places Kalisto between the ring steps and the ring apron and then dropkicks the steps. Kendrick has a lot of crafty moves. The two men exchange kicks on the ring apron and Kalisto then hits a Spanish fly off the apron! Kalisto hits a beautiful suicide dive and then lays in some right hands. Kendrick rams Kalisto into the apron. Kalisto heads to the top but Kendrick crotches him. Kalisto tries to fight off Kendrick but the wily veteran grabs on to his challengers mask, takes him down to the mat and locks on the captain’s hook but Kalisto gets to the bottom rope. Kalisto picks up the pace and hits a lot of moves in a short amount of time. He hits the Salida Del Sol but Kendrick gets his foot on the bottom rope. Baron Corbin then shows up out of nowhere! He attacks Kendrick from behind and then slams Kalisto! Brian Kendrick wins by disqualification!
Result: Brian Kendrick wins by disqualification.
Review: This was a good advert for the Cruiserweight division. Kalisto is perfect for the division. The finish served to continue to the Corbin/Kalisto feud. The division stays on Raw!
Over to the Survivor Series kick-off panel. Renee Young, Jerry Lawler, Booker T and Lita.
Daniel Bryan is backstage and isn’t happy with Baron Corbin. Corbin intimidates Bryan who says that he will deal with him on Tuesday.
There’s an ad for Roadblock: End Of The Line.
There’s a video package next for the five on five mens traditional Survivor Series match.
Team Raw (Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & Braun Strowman) vs. Team Smackdown (AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton & Shane McMahon) Traditional Survivor Series match
Background: This match was originally a challenge set by Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan to Raw. Raw accepted and both brands have put together strong teams. Originally Baron Corbin was a part of Team Smackdown but due to an injury he had to withdraw and Daniel Bryan put Shane McMahon forward.
Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match between these ten men.
Survivor Series Record: Kevin Owens is 0-1, Chris Jericho is 0-8, Roman Reigns is 3-0, Seth Rollins is 0-2, Dean Ambrose is 1-3, Bray Wyatt is 1-1, Randy Orton is 7-4 and Shane McMahon is 0-2. Braun Strowman and AJ Styles make their Survivor Series debut.
Match: Chris Jericho gets a huge pop when he comes out. He’a a local lad who is on fire at the moment. Jericho has never had his arm raised at the end of a Survivor Series match. AJ Styles and Kevin Owens are the two men to kick off the match, the two world champions. A “stupid idiot” chant breaks out and KO tags in Jericho to another huge pop. Rollins and Ambrose go at it in a clash of former Shield members. Shane McMahon gets a decent pop when he tags in. All ten men eventually get in the ring and stare each other out before they all go at it! Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles get into it and AJ attacks Ambrose form behind before Strowman hits a running powerslam for the first elimination of the match! Strowman runs through the whole Smackdown team and launches Styles out of the ring at one point. Bray Wyatt tries to convince Strowman into turning on his own team but Braun takes out Wyatt. Orton RKO’s Strowman into the announce desk to slow him down. Orton and Wyatt then lay Strowman down on the other announce desk and Shane McMahon flies off the top turnbuckle and hits an elbow drop on Braun through the table! Strowman then gets counted out! It’s revealed that James Ellsworth was holding his foot! Strowman chases Ellsworth up the ramp and launches him off it, through a table!
Shane McMahon and Chris Jericho are arguably the two most experienced talents in the match based on tenure and they go at it. Jericho hits codebreakers on McMahon and Orton and then gets a near fall on Shane. Kevin Owens lays into AJ with the list of Jericho and the referee calls for a DQ! Kevin Owens has been eliminated! Jericho picks up his list but turns around into an RKO from Orton! Orton hooks the leg for the three! Shane beats Rollins head off his own knee at one point. Shane looks for coast to coast at one point but Reigns picks him out of the air with a spear! Reigns makes the count but Shane’s shoulder is up at 2 so the referee stops the count. Shane wasn’t supposed to kick out there, he’s out of it. Doctors see to Shane as the other guys in the match take the fight to the outside.
We’re down to Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton and AJ Styles. Rollins and AJ go at it which is a dream match for me. Reigns is down and out on the outside and the crowd start a “Roman’s sleeping” chant. He’s got boo’d for the majority of the match. Reigns does wake up and he and Rollins take apart the Spanish announce desk. They then set Orton up for the Shield powerbomb but AJ Styles breaks it up. Dean Ambrose then re-appears and lays into Styles! Security try to get Ambrose out of there but Rollins and Reigns help Ambrose and all three former members of The Shield hit Styles with a triple powerbomb through the Spanish announce desk which is enough to eliminate him from the match! It’s down to Rollins & Reigns against Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton. Luke Harper then appears and distracts Rollins and Reigns. Harper gets involved on the outside, pushing Reigns into the ringpost and then superkicking him down.
Rollins looks for a frog splash on Bray Wyatt but Orton picks Rollins out of the air with an RKO! Wyatt then pins Rollins for the 3! Reigns does a good job of taking on Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton but also has to fight off Luke Harper. Reigns looks for a spear on Wyatt but Orton pushes Bray out of the way and Reigns spears. Orton! Wyatt then hits Sister Abigail on Reigns for the victory!
Result: Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton win the match for Team Smackdown
Braun Strowman eliminates Dean Ambrose
Braun Strowman is eliminated by count out
Kevin Owens is eliminated by disqualification
Randy Orton eliminates Chris Jericho
Roman Reigns eliminates Shane McMahon
Seth Rollins eliminates AJ Styles
Bray Wyatt eliminates Seth Rollins
Bray Wyatt eliminates Roman Reigns
Review: This was a good match. The match lasted about an hour and giving a lot of time to these matches gives them a big match feel. There were a lot of good spots in this match. But the win goes to Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton which is one of the more intriguing storylines on Smackdown at the moment. Smackdown had to win this match after Raw won the previous two traditional Survivor Series matches.
There’s a few adverts for WWE programming.
Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar
Background: Goldberg returned to the WWE after teasing a match with Brock Lesnar. Lesnar and Paul Heyman would challenge Goldberg to come back for another match. Brock hasn’t forgotten about the match they had at Wrestlemania 20 where Goldberg won. Goldberg accepted the challenge as he wants his wife and son to see him in action live for the first time ever.
Previous PPV matches: This is a second PPV match between these two men, Goldberg previously beat Brock at Wrestlemania 20.
Survivor Series Record: Goldberg is 1-0 at Survivor Series, Brock Lesnar is 0-2.
Match: The two men start with a stare-down. Brock then forces Goldberg into the corner but Goldberg shoves Lesnar to the mat. Goldberg then hits a spear! Goldberg hits a second spear! Goldberg hits a jackhammer and pins Lesnar for the three! An unbelievably short match and the quickest loss of Lesnar’s career!
Result: Goldberg wins by pinfall.
Review: This was very short. Surprisingly short. Brock Lesnar loses and you’d think this might lead to a rematch. After Brock has ploughed through practically everyone over the past few years it’s just a surprise to see him lose so quickly tonight!
And that was Survivor Series 2016. The theme was Raw vs. Smackdown and there were five cross-branded matches, Raw winning 3 and Smackdown winning 2 so I guess that means Raw wins overall. I actually really enjoyed this show. I like the Raw vs. Smackdown theme it makes the show more interesting. The traditional Survivor Series matches were really good. Goldberg and Lesnar was extremely short and I wasn’t expecting such a quick match but it wasn’t terrible. It was a real shocker to end so quickly considering how Brock Lesnar has been booked up to now. I think the booking for the traditional Survivor Series matches were 100% correct. Overall a good show and you should definitely go and check it out!
Overall Rating: 67/100 (ranked joint 35th out of 336)

Survivor Series 2016 Will Be Remembered For: Goldberg beating Brock Lesnar quickly
One thought on “Survivor Series 2016”
Three things of note:
1.On the pre-show, TJ Perkins, Rich Swann, & Noam Dar defeated Tony Nese, Drew Gulak, & Ariya Daivari (just showcase the cruiserweight division), and Kane defeated Luke Harper (which was a step after both men semi-main evented the previous year).
2.It was Natalya who attacked Nikki backstage; she did it for Da Hitman, she did it for Da People.
3.Originally watching the tag-team division match, I wanted American Alpha to go all the way.
