The Shield (Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose) vs. The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E & Xavier Woods)

Background: This match really cam to fruition when The New Day cost Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose the Raw Tag Team Championships, distracting them in a title defence against Sheamus and Cesaro. The Shield would then return with Roman Reigns and make the challenge to New Day for Survivor Series, a challenge that The New Day accepted. The two teams would get into it when the Raw superstars showed up on Smackdown.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time 6 man tag team match between these two teams.

Survivor Series Record: Roman Reigns is 3-1, Seth Rollins is 0-3, Dean Ambrose is 1-4, Kofi Kingston is 1-6, Big E is 1-2 and Xavier Woods is 0-1.

Match: The New Day cut a promo before the bell saying that The Shield will stab each other in the back come Wrestlemania season. Dean Ambrose and Kofi Kingston kick things off between these two babyface stables. The Shield are all wearing 50/50 Shield/Raw t shirts. Xavier Woods and Seth Rollins tag in and so far it’s advantage Shield. Big E and Roman Reigns then tag in for a battle of the big men. The fans chant “you still suck” and The New Day join in. It’s not long before all six men go at it until The Shield clear the ring of The New Day. Kofi takes the advantage for New Day, taking down Ambrose with clotheslines and then the boom drop. Ambrose and Kofi counter each others finishers. New Day hit the unicorn stampede on Ambrose as they make quick tags to keep Ambrose away from his corner. All six men get into it again in and around the ring. Big E hits his big apron spear on Ambrose. Ambrose counters a superplex from Woods and then a belly to belly superplex from Big E before hitting a missile dropkick.

Rollins gets the hot tag and picks up the pace, he hits a buckle bomb on Xavier Woods and Reigns follows it up with a big clothesline. Reigns hits a superman punch on Woods and motions for a spear but Woods counters. All hell breaks loose, Rollins hits a big knee to Kofi and Ambrose hits dirty deeds but Woods breaks up the pinfall. The Shield look for a triple powerbomb on Woods but Big E breaks it up. New Day triple team Ambrose and then Big E scoops up both Ambrose and Rollins and New Day hit a double midnight hour for a very near fall. Reigns was half a second slow with a spear that broke up that pinfall. All six men drag themselves to their feet and go at it as control is completely lost. Ambrose hits Big E with dirty deeds on the outside. Roman Reigns spear Kofi and The Shield then hit a top rope triple powerbomb for the win.

Result: The Shield beat The New Day by pinfall.

Review: This was a fantastic match to kick things off. Lots of great action from all six men. The match kept a really good pace throughout and as a result they’ve put on one of the best matches of the year. The crowd were definitely into it even if they were booing Roman Reigns throughout. Raw go 1-0 up against Smackdown and it was great to see The Shield back together.

Team Raw (Alicia Fox, Asuka, Nia Jax, Bayley & Sasha Banks) vs. Team Smackdown (Becky Lynch, Carmella, Naomi, Tamina & Natalya) – traditional Survivor Series match

Background: This is the traditional Survivor Series match from the women. Alicia Fox beat Sasha Banks and Bayley to become captain for her team and then announced Asuka, Nia Jax and Sasha Banks before Bayley won her way into joining the team. Team Smackdown was named by Shane McMahon with the only change occurring when Charlotte beat Natalya for the Smackdown Women’s Championships so Natalya replaced Charlotte in the team. The Raw women would beat down the Smackdown women on Smackdown last week.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time ten women tag match between these ladies.

Survivor Series Record: Alicia Fox is 1-3, Nia Jax is 0-1, Bayley is 1-0, Sasha Banks is 0-1, Becky Lynch is 0-1, Carmella is 0-1, Naomi is 1-2, Natalya is 3-2, Tamina is 0-1 and Asuka makes her Survivor Series debut tonight.

Match: The captains of Alicia Fox and Becky Lynch kick off the match. Natalya is so annoying from the outside. Bayley tags herself in and rolls up Becky Lynch for the three! Huge upset as Lynch is the first girl eliminated. Natalya enters the match and lays into Bayley before tagging out to Tamina. Asuka tags in to a huge pop but then quickly tags out to Alicia Fox. The Raw team make quick tags. Tamina is wrestling in a leather jacket. Bayley was one of the winners for Team Raw last year along with Charlotte. Tamina hits a big splash on Bayley to eliminate her. Nia Jax and Tamina then go at it, exchanging headbutts. Nia crushes Tamina in the corner and then hits a bowling ball for a near fall. Nia clobbers Lana off the apron but then turns around into two superkicks which knocks her out of the ring. Naomi then dives at Nia. Tamina then dives out at Nia and Jax gets counted out!

Alicia Fox and Naomi go at it. Alicia avoids a moonsault and then hits a big boot. Naomi hits a sunset flip and Alicia Fox is eliminated! It didn’t look like that was supposed to be the finish there. Sasha Banks then locks the Banks Statement on Naomi who taps out! It’s down to Asuka and Sasha Banks against Carmella, Tamina and Natalya. Asuka dominates Carmella with kicks to eliminate her. Sasha Banks and Natalya get into it and after smashing Banks off the middle turnbuckle, Natalya locks on the sharpshooter and Banks taps out. Natalya and Tamina make quick tags as they lay into Asuka. Asuka avoids a splash from Tamina and then locks an armbar and Tamina taps out! Natalya looks for the sharpshooter on Asuka but Asuka counters. Asuka then locks on the Asuka lock and Natalya taps out!

Result: Asuka wins for Team Raw.

Review: This was a fun match. I do like a traditional Survivor Series match and this one didn’t disappoint. Becky Lynch and Bayley’s early eliminations were surprising but Asuka winning was no surprise. Her big push from NXT continues and she looks great right now. It’s another win for Raw as they go 2-0 up.

The Miz vs. Baron Corbin – Intercontinental Champion vs. United States Champion

Background: This is the first of four champion vs. champion matches. The rivalry between these two men would get more personal when Corbin bought Miz’s pregnant wife Maryse into it.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time PPV match between these two men.

Survivor Series Record: The Miz is 3-4 at Survivor Series, Baron Corbin is making his Survivor Series debut tonight.

Match: Maryse is ringside and The Miz gives her a kiss before the match. Miz is also joined by his Miz-tourage of Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas. Baron Corbin takes the early advantage until he gets distracted by Curtis Axel and Miz makes him pay. Corbin goads Maryse which fires Miz up even more. The Miz has been really aggressive in this match so far. Curtis Axel distracts the referee which allows Bo Dallas to chop block Corbin, changing the direction of the match. The Miz locks on the figure four but Corbin gets to the bottom rope. Corbin hits deep six out of nowhere for a near fall. Corbin takes out Dallas and Axel and then looks for end of days on Miz but Miz counters and hits a DDT for a near fall. Miz hits a couple of running dropkicks but Corbin counters a third with end of days which is enough for the 3!

Result: Baron Corbin wins by pinfall.

Review: This match was ok, it was probably better than I thought it would be. Corbin wins and gets Smackdown on the board. Not much else to say about this one.

The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) vs. The Usos (Jimmy & Jey)

Background: This is a battle of the tag team champions. The Usos have been Smackdown Tag Team Champions for a while whilst The Bar only beat Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins a couple of weeks ago thanks to a distraction from The New Day. These were the last two teams in the traditional Survivor Series match at last years event, a match won by Sheamus and Cesaro.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time match between these two tag teams.

Survivor Series Record: Sheamus is 3-3, Cesaro is 2-1, Jey Uso is 1-3 and Jimmy Uso is 0-4.

Match: Sheamus and Jimmy Uso kick off the match. Interesting stat that The Usos are the fifth tag team to hold tag team titles in WWE five times following The Hardy Boys, Edge & Christian, The Dudley Boys and The New Age Outlaws. The Usos take the early advantage, making quick tags and double teaming Cesaro. Sheamus and Cesaro use their power to take control. They slow down the pace with Cesaro locking on a chinlock. The Bar keep a slow pace to the match with Sheamus hitting some of his trademark moves on Jimmy Uso. Jimmy makes the hot tag to Jey who picks up the pace against Cesaro. Cesaro swings Jey Uso around and then locks on a sharpshooter but Jey gets to the bottom rope to break it. There’s a few false finishes with The Bar hitting their a white noise/uppercut combo. Jey hits a Samoan drop on Sheamus off Cesaro’s shoulders for a near fall. The Usos hit multiple superkicks on Cesaro and then Sheamus. Jimmy dives out at Cesaro, tagging in Jey who hits a splash on Sheamus for the three!

Result: The Usos win by pinfall.

Review: This was a good match between two great teams. The Usos in particular are on fire right now and I dare say there’s a better tag team in wrestling right now. It also feels like a big win over two very established singles stars. Smackdown level up 2-2 with Raw.

Alexa Bliss vs. Charlotte

Background: This is the third clash of the champions as Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss takes on Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte. Alexa Bliss has been champion of Raw for a while but Charlotte only beat Natalya to win the Smackdown Women’s Championship last week. This feels like a match between the two biggest women’s stars on the roster.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time PPV match between these two girls.

Survivor Series Record: Charlotte is 2-0, Alexa Bliss is 0-1.

Match: Charlotte takes the advantage 8in the early going, using her size to get the better of the Raw Women’s Champion. Alexa manages to take the fight to the outside and takes the advantage. Bliss is slow and methodical in her approach. Charlotte counters a tornado DDT and t-bone suplexes Alexa into the corner. Charlotte seems pretty stiff with some of her strikes. The crowd are split in their support for this match. Alexa counters the figure eight with a right hand. These two women represented the opposite brand at last years event, both were traded in the draft. Charlotte hits natural selection for a near fall. Bliss avoids a moonsault and gets a couple of near falls herself. Charlotte hits a spear but can’t keep the advantage as both girls stay down. Charlotte counters Twisted Bliss by getting her knees up and then hits a running boot and locks on the figure eight! Alexa taps out!

Result: Charlotte wins by submission.

Review: This was a good match from two of the best women on the roster. Charlotte gets the win, like she does on practically every pay per view but I honestly don’t mind it, she is the best in the business right now and deserves every win. Alexa Bliss is great and hopefully this won’t hurt her momentum too much. Smackdown go up 3-2.

Brock Lesnar vs. AJ Styles

Background: This is a battle between Universal Champion and WWE Champion. Brock Lesnar has been Universal Champion for a while but AJ Styles only won the WWE Championship a couple of weeks ago when he beat Jinder Mahal in Manchester, England. Paul Heyman has said that AJ Styles is the best of his generation but he can’t beat Brock Lesnar.

Survivor Series Record: Brock Lesnar is surprisingly 0-3 at Survivor Series, AJ Styles is 0-1.

Match: This is a dream match. Both men get big pops as they make their entrance. Brock Lesnar lays into AJ Styles as the match begins, throwing Styles across the ring. It soon turns into suplex city as Lesnar belly to belly and German suplexes AJ from one side of the ring to the other. Brock then launches Styles out of the ring where he then throws him into the announce desk. Brock continues to dominant and taunts the WWE Champion as he does so. AJ manages to wriggle out of an F5 and hits a DDT. AJ hits a Pele kick and then looks for a phenomenal forearm but Lesnar ducks and then hits a big German suplex. AJ ducks a clothesline which sends Brock to the outside and then dives out with a phenomenal forearm. Styles then sends Lesnar into the ring steps before hitting another flying forearm. Back in the ring and Styles hits a Pele kick, a springboard moonsault and a springboard 450 splash for the first near fall of the match.

AJ looks for the Styles clash but Lesnar counters and attempts the F5 but AJ wriggles down and locks on the calf crusher! Lesnar smashes AJ’s head off the canvas to break the calf crusher. Brock looks for an F5 but Styles grabs on to the top rope and forearms his way out of it before hitting a phenomenal forearm for a near fall. Styles pulls off an elbow pad and looks for another phenomenal forearm but Lesnar catches him and hits an F5 for the three.

Result: Brock Lesnar wins by pinfall.

Review: This was a fantastic match. It wasn’t a squash and I had hoped it wouldn’t be. AJ got a lot of offence in and looked great against the most dominant superstar in WWE history. Brock was on form and looked his best. A really good match and one I would love to see again. Raw and Smackdown are now tied at 3 wins a piece.

Team Raw (Kurt Angle, Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, Finn Balor & Triple H) vs. Team Smackdown (Shane McMahon, Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode & John Cena) – traditional Survivor Series match

Background: This is the mens traditional Survivor Series match and it will decide the series tonight. Kurt angle was made head of the Raw team and quickly recruited Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe and Finn Balor. He also added his son Jason Jordan to the team but following an injury to Jordan, Triple H was unveiled as the final member. Shane McMahon made himself captain of the Smackdown team and added Randy Orton before Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode won their way into the team. John Cena was then unveiled as the final member of the team.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time ten man tag team match between these ten men.

Survivor Series Record: Kurt Angle is 2-5, Braun Strowman is 0-1, Triple H has won 3 out of his previous 12 Survivor Series matches, Shane McMahon is 0-3, Randy Orton is 8-4, John Cena is 8-2 whilst Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode make their Survivor Series debut tonight.

Match: Braun Strowman and Shane McMahon start the match but Braun throws McMahon across the ring and Shane tags out. This match has a real mix of generations. Samoa Joe avoids an RKO early on. The crowd pop for Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura squaring off and you can see why as there is some excellent wrestling between the two. The beginning of the match is mostly the two teams feeling each other out and popping the crowd. Bobby Roode counters a pedigree attempt from Triple H and then hits him with a spinebuster. Shinsuke Nakamura manages to take out all of the Raw team one by one until Braun Strowman tags in and hits a running powerslam to eliminate Nakamura from the match. Strowman hits Bobby Roode with a powerslam not long after and eliminates him too! The Raw team then starts to implode as Samoa Joe tags himself in off Strowman. Triple H and Kurt Angle also get into a shoving match. The whole Smackdown team then put Strowman through an announce desk! Samoa Joe and Finn Balor get into it again but John Cena hits both men with attitude adjustments before pinning Joe to eliminate him!

Kurt angle and john Cena get into it which is a throwback. Finn Balor helps out his teammate, hitting Cena with a coup de gras and Kurt follows it up with an Angle Slam to eliminate Cena from the match! Randy Orton avoids a coup de gras and then hits Balor with an RKO to eliminate him from the match! We’re down to Triple H, Kurt angle and Braun Strowman against Shane McMahon and Randy Orton. Randy Orton looks to make a tag to Shane McMahon but Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn come out of nowhere and attack Shane! Shane manages to fight them off with a chair and Orton hits Owens with an RKO for good measure. Braun Strowman finally gets back into the match and hits Orton with a running powerslam to eliminate him from the match.

It’s now Kurt Angle, Triple H and Braun Strowman against Shane McMahon. The two captains get into it and Shane is all over Kurt but can’t keep him down. Kurt hits an Angle Slam and then locks on the ankle lock but it’s Triple H that breaks it up and hits Kurt with a pedigree! Triple H then pulls Shane across Kurt who stays down for the three. Kurt Angle is eliminated! Triple H helps Shane to his feet and then hits him with a pedigree before pinning him for the three! Triple H and Braun Strowman win the match for Team Raw! After the match Braun Strowman hits Triple H with two running powerslams.

Review: This was a good match. They really focused on getting crowd reactions and making it a fun match for the viewers. Raw wins and wins the series overall but this match was all about Triple H, Kurt Angle and Shane McMahon. Which isn’t great for the newer stars. Thankfully Braun Strowman ends the night as the last man standing which gives some hope for the future.
