Team Raw (Charlotte, Natalya, Sarah Logan, Asuka & Kairi Sane) vs. Team Smackdown (Sasha Banks, Carmella, Dana Brooke, Nikki Cross & Lacey Evans) vs. Team NXT (Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, Toni Storm, Io Shirai & Candice LaRae)

Background: On the November 8 episode of SmackDown, Michael Cole announced Sasha Banks as the captain for Team SmackDown’s women’s team. Later that night, Carmella and Dana Brooke defeated Fire & Desire (Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville) to qualify for the team after the match had been rescheduled due to a backstage attack from NXT’s Bianca Belair the previous week that led to Rhea Ripley and Tegan Nox defeating Fire & Desire. On November 14, WWE.com announced Lacey Evans as the fourth member of Team SmackDown, followed by Nikki Cross on November 17 after Cross, who was originally scheduled to face Bayley in a non-title qualifying match, scored the pin in an eight-woman tag team match on the November 15 episode of SmackDown. On the November 18 episode of Raw, Charlotte Flair was announced as the captain for Team Raw, with Natalya, Sarah Logan, and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) revealed as the other team members later that night. Following a tag team match that night in which Flair and Becky Lynch faced The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce), the latter being disgruntled as they were not selected for Team Raw, NXT’s Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke attacked the women. On the November 22 episode of SmackDown, Rhea Ripley was revealed as the captain for Team NXT. Later that night, Ripley defeated Flair and Banks in a triple threat match, and a brawl occurred with all the women from the three brands following the match. After the conclusion of TakeOver: WarGames, Ripley picked Candice LeRae, Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, and Toni Storm (from NXT UK) as the other members of Team NXT.

Survivor Series PPV Record: Charlotte is 4-0 at Survivor Series, Natalya is 3-3, Asuka is 1-1, Sasha Banks is 0-3, Carmella is 0-3, all of the other girls make their Survivor Series debut tonight.

Match: Lacey Evans, Toni Storm and Sarah Logan kick of the match for their teams. There’s an awesome head to head with Kairi Sane and Io Shirai. All hell soon breaks loose and all the girls get involved until Sasha Banks is the last girl standing. Something happens on the outside with Io Shirai and Candice LeRae and both girls are down on the outside. Both girls are then carried to the back, they are eliminated. Sarah Logan has had a good showing so far. Rhea Ripley is very popular. Bianca Belair gets two straight eliminations, taking out Nikki Cross and Sarah Logan. This match is certainly chaotic. Charlotte hits natural selection on Carmella to eliminate her from the match. Kairi hits the insane elbow on Toni Storm but for some reason Sasha breaks up the pinfall before eliminating Sane from the match.

Asuka eliminates Dana Brooke and then Asuka and Charlotte, who are teammates, get into it! Asuka spits green mist into the face of Charlotte and Asuka then heads to the back! Lacey hits Charlotte with a women’s right and pins her for the three! Natalya is the final member of team Raw and she eliminates Lacey Evans.It’s advantage NXT as they still have 3 members comnpared to the other teams that have 1 member. Natalya locks a sharpshooter on Toni Storm and Sasha locks a Banks statement on Storm at the same time! Sasha and Natalya then hit a Hart attack on Biance and Natalya pins her for the three!

Natalya and Sasha look to double team Rhea Ripley but Sasha lays out Natalya with a right hand and pins her for the three! We’re down to Smackdown’s Sasha Banks and NXT’s Rhea Ripley. It’s all Rhea Ripley and she powers Banks around. Sasha hits kneeteora for a near fall. The two girls exchange submissions but out come Io Shirai and Candice LeRae who pull Rhea Ripley out to safety. Shirai and LaRae continue to get involved, Io hits a springboard dropkick and Ripley hits the Rip-tide for the three!

Result: Rhea Ripley gets the win after pinning Sasha Banks.

Review: This wa sa really fun way to kick off the show. It was quite chaotic in parts and some of the eliminations were a bit rushed. I’m pretty sure Io and Candice were eliminated, hence they had to distract the referee at the end. A three way Survivor Series match is a mad idea but I enjoyed this. A huge win for Rhea Ripley tonight.

AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Roderick Strong – triple threat match

Background: Prior to the November 6 episode of NXT, Raw’s The O.C. (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson) invaded NXT and attacked The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong). On the November 11 episode of Raw, a non-title triple threat match between United States Champion AJ Styles, Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, and North American Champion Roderick Strong was scheduled for Survivor Series. Following a tag team match on the November 22 episode of SmackDown, the three brawled with each other.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time triple threat match between these three men.

Survivor Series PPV Record: AJ Styles is 0-2, Shinsuke Nakamura is 0-2 and Roderick Strong wrestles at this event for the first time tonight.

Match: AJ Styles starts the match the best, laying into both opponents. Roderick Strong then displays his array of backbreakers. Styles looks to springboard early but Nakamura stops him. Shinsuke then his way with both men for a while. AJ throws Strong into the middle section of Nakamura at one point, pretty brutal there. Strong then has his moment in control, hitting knees and forearms. There’s some nice counters between Strong and Styles. Strong stops AJ from hitting a Styles clash on Roderick Strong and then Sami Zayn pulls Nakamura out of the ring. Strong hits a nice Olympic Slam into a Tigerbomb for a near fall. Styles stops Nakamura from hitting Kinshasa but Sami Zayn then takes out AJ Styles. Roderick Strong hits Nakamura with a big knee and pins him for a near fall. I think Zayn actually broke up that pinfall. Nakamura motions for a Kinshasa on Strong but AJ stops that from happening. Nakamura then hits Strong with Kinshasa but Styles breaks up the pinfall that follows. AJ counters a Kinshasa and Nakamura counters a Styles clash. AJ then hits the phenomenal forearm on Nakamura but Roderick Strong throws AJ out of the ring and pins Nakamura for the three!

Result: Roderick Strong wins by pinfall.

Review: This was a really good matchup. Three talented performers who wrestled a match that lived up to expectation. I am a little surprised that Strong won this match, I’d have fancied either of the other two guys. But this was a match between three very good wrestlers and it’s another big win for NXT tonight.

Adam Cole (c) vs. Pete Dunne – NXT Championship match

Background: On November 19, Adam Cole was scheduled to defend the NXT Championship at Survivor Series. His opponent was determined by a triple threat match that occurred at TakeOver: WarGames the night before Survivor Series, where Pete Dunne defeated Damian Priest and Killian Dain to earn the title shot. This marked the first time that an NXT championship was to be defended on the main card of a Survivor Series event.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time PPV match between these two men.

Survivor Series PPV Record: This is a Survivor Series debut for both men.

Match: There’s plenty of holds in the early going from Pete Dunne. Mostly small joint manipulation. Cole is more of a striker and he exchanges shots with Dunne. Pete hits a moonsault on the outside and he’s selling a knee injury. He attempts a moonsault in the ring but Cole gets his knees up and then hits a last shot for a near fall. Dunne hits the bitter end for a near fall. Dunne looks for a moonsault but Cole superkicks him in the face for a near fall. Cole hits a panama sunrise on the apron and both men are out. It’s the hardest part of the ring you know. Dunne looks for the bitter end but Cole counters with a panama sunrise and then hits the last shot for the three!

Result: Adam Cole wins by pinfall.

Review: This was another fantastic match. They made you think that this match could have gone either way but in the end it was Adam Cole who retained his NXT Championship.

“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Daniel Bryan – Universal Championship match

Background: At Crown Jewel, SmackDown wrestler “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt won Raw’s Universal Championship, thus transferring the title to SmackDown. Backstage during the November 8 episode of SmackDown, as Sami Zayn was trying to convince Daniel Bryan to join his faction, “The Fiend” appeared and attacked Bryan with the Mandible Claw. During a “Miz TV” segment the following week, Wyatt (as his normal self) taunted Bryan by mocking the latter’s former “Yes Movement” persona. In response, Bryan challenged Wyatt for the Universal Championship at Survivor Series and Wyatt accepted, but with Bryan facing Wyatt’s alter-ego “The Fiend”.

Previous PPV matches: This is the second PPV match between these two men. Bray Wyatt previous beat Daniel Bryan at Royal Rumble 2014.

Survivor Series PPV Record: Daniel Bryan is 2-2, Bray Wyatt is 2-1.

Match: We have the creepy red light engulfing the ring for this one. From the minute the bell rings it is all Bray Wyatt. Wyatt dominates a slow paced match using his power to throw Daniel Bryan around. Bryan eventually gets back into the match and hits a suicide dive and a flying knee off the top rope. Bryan uses a lot of top rope moves to keep the advantage. The Fiend just keeps getting back up though, much like we’ve seen in the past. Bryan hits god knows how many yes kicks and a running knee for a near fall. Bryan counters both a mandible claw and sister abigail. The Fiend locks on the mandible claw in the middle of the ring and the referee counts Bryans shoulders to the mat for the three!

Result: The Fiend retains the Universal Championship by pinfall.

Review: This felt really short. There wasn’t a lot to the match really, a bit of back and forth. A very basic match but Bray Wyatt comes out of it looking very strong. He’s such a different character to anything we’ve seen before. I quite likes him as Universal Champion anyway. I can only assume that this feud won’t continue.

Team Raw (Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens & Ricochet) vs. Team Smackdown (Roman Reigns, Shorty G, King Corbin, Mustafa Ali & Braun Strowman) vs. Team NXT (Keith Lee, Riddle, WALTER, Tommaso Ciampa & Damien Priest)

Background: On November 8, WWE.com announced that Seth Rollins was selected as the captain for Team Raw’s men’s team, with Kevin Owens, Ricochet, Randy Orton, and Drew McIntyre revealed as the other team members during the November 11 episode of Raw. On the November 12 episode of WWE Backstage, Roman Reigns was revealed as the captain for Team SmackDown, with Mustafa Ali (formerly known as Ali), Braun Strowman, King Corbin, and Shorty G also announced for the team. NXT head Triple H tried to convince Rollins as well as Owens to leave Raw and come back to NXT where they had started their WWE careers. Both turned down the offers, leading to the NXT roster attacking members of Raw, as well as those on SmackDown. At the conclusion of the November 18 Raw, Triple H invited members of Raw and SmackDown to the following episode of NXT, where a large brawl broke out between all three brands. After the conclusion of TakeOver: WarGames, Triple H announced that Shawn Michaels would reveal the members of Team NXT during the Survivor Series Kickoff pre-show.

Survivor Series PPV Record: Seth Rollins is 2-3, Drew McIntyre is 2-1, Randy Orton is 8-5, Kevin Owens is 0-2, Roman Reigns is 4-1, Shorty G is 0-1, Corbin is 1-0, Ali is 0-1, Strowman is 1-0, everyone else wrestles at Survivor Series for the first time tonight.

Match: Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman and Ciampa kick off the match for their teams. It’s not long before the likes of Drew McIntyre and WALTER are involved and McIntyre eliminates WALTER with a claymore. The crowd were not happy with that! Shorty G is next to go courtesy of a Kevin Owens frog splash. Tommaso Ciampa eliminates Kevin Owens with a widows bell. We then get a nice square off between Ciampa and Randy Orton. Orton hits an RKO on Ciampa and then Damien Priest before pinning Priest to eliminate him from the match. Matt Riddle then rolls up Randy Orton for the three! Randy hits Riddle with an RKO on the way out and Corbin pins Riddle for the three.Strowman hits his running shoulder charge on four men on the outside. Keith Lee puts a stop to that with a cross body. Drew McIntyre then hits Braun with a claymore on the outside and Strowman gets counted out! Ricochet picks up the pace until Corbin hits him with end of days for the three.

Ali is popular in his hometown and he’s another guy who picks up the pace. He tagged himself in and Corbin took offence to it. Corbin drags Ali out of the ring which distracts Ali and Rollins hits him with a stomp to eliminate Ali from the match. We’re down to Roman Reigns & King Corbin, Ciampa & Keith Lee, and Seth Rollins & Drew McIntyre. Three teams of two. Reigns spears McIntyre for the three. Reigns and Corbin get into it, Reigns hits Corbin with a superman punch and a spear and then Ciampa pins Corbin for the three! Reigns and Rollins double team Ciampa on the outside and look to powerbomb him through an announce desk but Keith Lee puts a stop to it. Ciampa hits project Ciampa on Rollins for a near fall. Reigns hits a superman punch on Ciampa and Rollins follows it up with a stomp to eliminate Ciampa. We’re down to one man from each teams, Rollins, Reigns and Keith Lee. Rollins gets a lot of boo’s as he hits a frog splash on Lee for a near fall. Keith Lee hits Rollins with a jackhammer for the three. Reigns and Lee both get very near falls on each other. Lee misses a moonsault and Reigns hits a spear for the three.

Result: Roman Reigns is the sole survivor for Team Smackdown, last eliminating Keith Lee.

Review: This was another really fun match. I didn’t know which way it was going but we all know Roman Reigns doesn’t lose often. Reigns wins tonight and picks up the second victory of the night for Smackdown. It’s now 3-2-1 for NXT, Smackdown, Raw. I like the chaos of these three way matches, I wonder if they’ll stick with tme going forward. There’s potential for some really fun spots. Fun match here.

Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Rey Mysterio – No Holds Barred match for the WWE Championship

Background: On the September 30 episode of Raw, Brock Lesnar brutally attacked Rey Mysterio as well as Mysterio’s son, Dominic, who was seated in the front row. After Lesnar won the WWE Championship during SmackDown’s 20th Anniversary, an injured Mysterio appeared along with Dominic’s godfather and Lesnar’s former Ultimate Fighting Championship rival, Cain Velasquez, who attacked Lesnar. At Crown Jewel, Lesnar retained the championship against Velasquez by submission and continued to apply the Kimura Lock after the match had concluded until Mysterio attacked Lesnar with a chair. Lesnar fended off Mysterio, who retaliated by striking Lesnar with multiple chair shots, forcing him to retreat. On the following SmackDown, Lesnar quit SmackDown to move to Raw (with the WWE Championship) in order to seek revenge against Mysterio, who had been drafted to Raw. On the following Raw, Lesnar proceeded to attack crew members in search of Mysterio, including commentator Dio Maddin, whom he put through the broadcast table with an F-5. Mysterio then appeared, struck Lesnar with a steel pipe, and later challenged Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series, which was made official. On the November 18 episode of Raw, Lesnar’s advocate Paul Heyman suggested a No Holds Barred match and Mysterio accepted.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time singles PPV match between these two men.

Survivor Series PPV Record: Brock Lesnar is 2-3, Rey Mysterio is 3-7.

Match: Brock Lesnar is of course joined by Paul Heyman. Rey Mysterio is dressed like the joker. The bell rings and Rey slides straight out of the ring and grabs a lead pipe from underneath it. Brock doesn’t let Rey use the pipe and lays into the smaller man on the outside with belly to belly suplexes. Rey counters an F5 on the outside but Brock hits him with a German suplex back in the ring. Dominik Mysterio runs out from the back with a towel but Lesnar throws that away. The distraction is enough for Rey to lay into Brock with the lead pipe! Dominik then gets involved with a chair and the two Mysterio’s hit a double 619! Both men then hit frog splashes for a near fall. Lesnar is right back up, hits Dominik with a German suplex and Rey with an F5 which is enough for the three.

Result: Brock Lesnar wins by pinfall.

Review: I quite enjoyed this match. But I always do enjoy Brock Lesnar matches. I didn’t expect Rey to win but the psychology was good in this, it told a good story. Lesnar retains the WWE Championship.

Becky Lynch vs. Bayley vs. Shayna Baszler – triple threat match

Background: On the November 1 episode of SmackDown, after Bayley defeated Nikki Cross to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship due to interference from Sasha Banks, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler appeared and attacked all three. During a sit-down interview on the following Raw, Charly Caruso informed Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch that she would be facing Baszler and Bayley in a non-title triple threat match at Survivor Series, after which, Baszler appeared and confronted Lynch. Over the following weeks, the three would invade each others shows, attacking one another.

Previous PPV matches: This is a first time triple threat match between these three girls.

Survivor Series PPV Record: Bayley is 1-2, Becky is 0-2 and Shayna wrestles at Survivor Series for the first time tonight.

Match: Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke are both shown backstage with Shayna but they don’t come out to the ring with her. All three girls get into it in the early going with none of them getting a long advantage. Bayley and Baszler go at it for a while until Becky gets back involved with a mis-timed boot on Shayna. Becky and Bayley then go at it. Lynch fires up with Bexploders on both opponents. Becky locks the disarm-her on Bayley but Baszler breaks it up. Bayley hits a Balyey to belly on Shayna for a near fall. Becky quickens the pace again as she looks to finish off Shayna but Bayley gets involved. Bayley sells a knee injury and then gets wiped out by both opponents. Baszler takes out Lynch on the outside, finishing her off with a shoulder breaker on the announce desk. Bayley and Baszler attempt their finishers on each other in the ring. Shayna avoids an elbow drop and locks on the kirifuda clutch and Bayley taps out! After the match Becky Lynch takes out Shayna Baszler and poses with her title.

Result: Shayna Baszler wins by submission.

Review: This was a really solid main event. All three girls performed well and Shayna Baszler fit right in on the main roster. It can’t be long before she gets called up. Shayna wins though and it’s another win for NXT who win the Survivor Series 4-2-1. I did think Becky might have won this match but we knew it wouldn’t be Lynch taking the fall. A big win for Shayna Baszler tonight and a good main event.
