It’s the worst buyrate for a No Way Out PPV since 1998 but will the final stop before Wrestlemania pick up some steam before the biggest show of the year? To be honest, I’m disappointed in the main event. I’m a fan of title matches but sadly, as we have come to expect with Batista title reigns, he won’t be defending the belt tonight. Instead we get a tag team match with Batista and The Undertaker teaming up to take on Raw’s Shawn Michaels and John Cena. The two main events for Wrestlemania have been announced as the winner of the 2007 Royal Rumble, The Undertaker has chosen to take on Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship. On the Raw side of things Shawn Michaels beat Randy Orton and Edge in a triple threat match to become number one contender for John Cena’s WWE Championship. Vince McMahon then made the match for the main event of No Way Out with one Wrestlemania main event against the other. and to add to that, Shawn Michaels and John Cena are now co-holders of the World Tag Team Championships.
A big rivalry that began at the Royal Rumble was between Kane and King Booker. Kane eliminated Booker from the match but Booker re-entered the ring and eliminated Kane before taking him out on the outside! Teddy Long has made a match between these two men. The WWE Tag Team Championships are set to be defended tonight. Originally Paul London and Brian Kendrick were set to defend in an Armageddon rematch against The Hardy Boyz, MNM and William Regal & Dave Taylor, once again in a ladder match. But for some reason it has all changed without explanation and instead London and Kendrick will defend against Deuce and Domino who are a new team on the scene and have defeated the champions in non title matches. The ECW Championship is set to be defended after Mr Kennedy challenged Bobby Lashley to a match. Kennedy has beaten Lashley before and says that he could do it again with the title on the line.
Finlay and Boogeyman have had their run-ins as of late and it was the Little Bastard that proved to be the difference between the two. The sides have been evened though after a little Boogeyman joined the real Boogeyman! Finlay and boogeyman meet again tonight. Also tonight there is expected to be a cruiserweight invitational as Gregory Helms wrestled Scotty Too Hotty last week many of the other cruiserweight got involved including the likes of Jamie Noble, Funaki, Jimmy Wang Yang and ECW’s Shannon Moore.
In a dark match prior to the event Rob Van Dam defeated Shelton Benjamin.
A video package kicks us off highlighting the battle of the Wrestlemania main events between Shawn Michaels and John Cena and The Undertaker and Batista.
Michael Cole welcomes us to the show, he’s joined by John “Bradshaw” Layfield. Cole throws to the Spanish announce team but JBL isn’t happy with Spanish speaking people in America.
Chris Benoit & The Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff Hardy) vs. MVP & MNM (Joey Mercury & Johnny Nitro)
It’s an unannounced six man tag team match to kick things off. Chris Benoit has a 2-2 record at No Way Out events, Matt Hardy 2-2, Jeff Hardy is 0-3, MNM 0-1 and MVP makes his No Way Out debut tonight. Matt Hardy starts the match against the man who holds him responsible for breaking his nose, Joey Mercury. Mercury and Hardy exchange right hands and Matt then smashes Mercury into the top turnbuckle. Mercury hits an Irish whip but then walks into Matt’s boot. Matt Hardy then comes off the top with a double axe handle before tagging in Jeff Hardy. This is 7 consecutive PPV’s for Jeff Hardy. Jeff hits a springboard dropkick for a one count and then tags his brother Matt back in. Mercury takes Matt down by his hair and then tags in Johnny Nitro. Nitro tags in MVP and Hardy tags in Benoit. MVP takes the advantage by raking the eyes before hitting a snapmare and booting Benoit in the back for the first near fall of the night. Benoit hits some chops and MVP escapes the ring to get away.
Back in the ring and Benoit hits a clothesline and a suplex for a two count. Benoit tags in Jeff Hardy who smashes MVP into the top turnbuckle but again MVP rakes the eyes and tags in Nitro, Jeff Hardy and Johnny Nitro have been on the opposite side of the ring for six PPV’s in a row now. Hardy hits a legdrop but Nitro fights back by slapping Hardy. Hardy chases Nitro out of the ring where Joey Mercy gets involved. Back in the ring and Nitro gets a near fall. Nitro hits a snapmare on the Intercontinental Champion and then applies a chinlock. Hardy gets out of the chinlock but Mercury gets involved again with his knee before tagging back in. Jeff Hardy and Johnny Nitro are Raw superstars but they have been putting in the extra work as of late. Mercury applies a chinlock which Hardy gets out of but Mercury forces Jeff into his corner and then tags in MVP. MVP and MNM triple team Hardy behind the referee’s back. MVP hits a suplex for a near fall. Jeff Hardy has wrestled more PPV matches without main eventing than anyone else in history up to now. His brother Matt is second.
MVP tags Nitro who looks to hit a reverse suplex from the top but Jeff elbows him off and hits a corkscrew moonsault before tagging in Matt. Matt hits an elbow on Nitro and then a couple of clotheslines on Mercury. Hardy takes out both members of MNM and then hits Nitro with a side affect for a near fall. MVP attacks Matt from behind and hits him with a back suplex. Nitro tags in MVP officially, he hits a snapmare on Matt Hardy and then applies a chinlock. MVP hits a gutwrench suplex and then an elbow drop. Joey Mercury tags in and hits Hardy with a big right hand. Melina looks to get involved but isn’t quick enough. Mercury hits a clothesline for a near fall. No United States title match tonight as champion Chris Benoit is in this match. Nitro tags in and hits a neckbreaker on Matt Hardy for a near fall. Nitro applies a front face lock and then an uppercut before Matt drops him with a clothesline. Nitro tags Mercury and he stops Hardy from making a tag. Matt hits a suplex and tags in Chris Benoit!
Benoit takes out all three opponents with clotheslines, suplexes and then a double German suplex to both members of MNM. The Hardy Boyz then clear the ring of Nitro and MVP before hitting poetry in motion on Joey Mercury. Matt hits twist of fate of Mercury, Jeff hits a swanton bomb and Benoit then comes off the top with a headbutt. Benoit gets a near fall when MVP breaks up the count. Nitro takes Jeff Hardy out and MVP tries to nail Benoit with the United States title. Benoit sidesteps it and then takes MVP down with the crippler crossface! Mercury breaks the hold as all 6 men go at it. Mercury knocks Benoit down and MNM then set up the US Champion up for the snapshot! MattHardy stops that from happened and Benoit then locks the cripples crossface on Mercury! Mercury taps out and it’s a win for Benoit and The Hardy Boyz tonight! A good match to kick off the show.

Kristal is backstage with Vickie Guerrero. Vickie says she has an opportunity that is very close to happening but first she has to do something this week on Smackdown. She then thanks Kristal for everything. Kristal has been flirting with Teddy Long a lot recently.
Finlay is backstage with the Little Bastard. Little Bastard is scared of the little Boogeyman that was on Smackdown last week. Finlay calls the Little Bastard a new name, Hornswoggle. Finlay hugs him and throws him in a dumpster to feel safe. A red light and smoke comes from the dumpster, Hornswoggle jumps out of the dumpster and is followed by little Boogeyman!
Cruiserweight Open for the Cruiserweight Championship
Two cruiserweights will start this match and when one is eliminated a new cruiserweight will join the match. Sort of like a gauntlet match.
Scotty Too Hotty vs. Daivari
Michael Cole incorrectly says that Scotty has never been Cruiserweight champion. Scotty Too Hotty is the only man from the original draft back in 2002 to still be on the brand that he was drafted to. Scotty has a 2-2 record at No Way Out PPV’s. Daivari lays into Scotty early on with a kick and a hard Irish whip for a few near falls. Daivari hits a slam and an elbow drop for another near fall. Daivari hits some big right hands and Scotty fires back with one of his own. Daivari misses with a splash and so Scotty hits him with a bulldog and then the worm! And that’s enough for the three! Daivari is eliminated!
Scotty Too Hotty vs. Gregory Helms (c)
Gregory Helms has a 1-0 record at No Way Out PPV’s. He lays into Scotty not wasting any time. He slingshots Scotty into the bottom rope for a near fall and then applies a butterfly lock. Helms has been champion for over a year now. Scotty gets out of the hold and hits a side suplex on Helms. Scotty then looks to hit the worm but Gregory bounces him off the second rope and hits a facebuster to eliminate him from the match!
Gregory Helms (c) vs. Funaki
Funaki is 0-2 at No Way Out events. Funaki hits a cross body off the top but Helms rolls through, pulls the tights and gets the 3! Funaki is eliminated quickly!
Gregory Helms (c) vs. Shannon Moore
Shannon Moore comes from ECW. Moore is 0-1 at No Way Out events and he drags Helms out of the ring and throws him into the ring apron. Shannon hits a head scissors on the outside and then throws Helms back into the ring. These two have been friends for a long time. Helms hits a backbreaker for a near fall. Moore hits a blockbuster from the second rope for a two count. Shannon then heads to the top but Gregory Helms hits him with a right hand and then a belly to belly suplex off the top. Helms hits his facebuster and that’s enough for the three.
Gregory Helms (c) vs. Jimmy Wang Yang
Wang Yang has appeared at no Way Out before as Akio and lost. He gets the better of Helms with a reverse elbow for a near fall. Wang Yang hits some big right hands, a poke to the eye and then a legsweep for a near fall. Wang Yang hits a side Russian leg sweep and then a unique arm bar in the middle of the ring. Helms avoids a moonsault and then takes Yang down with a big right hand. Wang Yang rolls Helms up from nowhere and gets the three! Gregory Helms has lost the cruiserweight title! Helms attacks Wang Yang after the bell.
Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Jamie Noble
Jamie Noble is 1-0 at No Way Out PPV’s. He quickly pins Wang Yang who kicks out at 2. Noble hits a clothesline for another near fall and then a neckbreaker and still can’t keep Wang Yang down for three. Noble hits a powerslam and a legdrop before applying a sleeper. Wang Yang gets out of the hold and the two men slug it out. Noble avoids a shoulderblock in the corner and then rolls up Jimmy for a near fall. Noble applies a sleeper again but Yang gets out of it, hits an inverted atomic drop and a couple of clotheslines before taking Noble down with a spinning heel kick for a near fall. Noble hits a high knee for a near fall and then pops Wang Yang on the top rope. Noble attempts a superplex but Jimmy drops him to the mat before hitting a beautiful moonsault and gets the 3! Jimmy Wang Yang is announced as the winner! But wait, Chavo’s music hits and it looks like there’s one more man in this match!
Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Chavo Guerrero
Chavo lays into Jimmy wang Yang with right hands and then a side suplex. Chavo hits a hard kick to the back and then an uppercut. Guerrero kicks away at Yang but Wang Yang hits a spinning heel kick. Jimmy then back body drops Chavo out of the ring before going up top and hitting a cross body to the outside. Wang Yang rolls Chavo back into the ring and hits a missile dropkick but Chavo counters it with a dropkick of his own. Chavo hits the three amigos and then heads to the top bit Wang Yang kicks him in the head and then hits him with a top rope hurricanrana for a near fall. Wang Yang goes up top again but Chavo gets out of the way of a corkscrew moonsault. Guerrero goes up top and hits a frogsplash which wins him the match! Chavo Guerrero wins the Cruiserweight title for a 6th time! I’d have had Daivari beat Scotty but apart from that a good match.

Kristal is backstage with John Cena who botches the question. Cena makes a joke out of it before cutting one of his standard promos. He’s not concerned by tagging with Shawn Michaels but he is concerned about Batista and The Undertaker.
The Boogeyman & Little Boogeyman vs. Finlay & Hornswoggle
This is a first time PPV match between these two men. The Boogeyman goes into this match undefeated on PPV and also with the joint best PPV record of all time following victories over JBL, Booker T and The Miz. A win tonight would be four straight victories and he’d be on his own with the best PPV record of all time. Finlay takes a big punt at Boogeyman as the bell rings but Boogeyman hits a firemans carry, a right hand and then rags Finlay out of the ring. Boogeyman smashes Finlay into the barricade and then rolls him back into the ring where he hits a double axe handle on the apron. Boogeyman hits a big boot and then smashes Finlay into the top turnbuckle. Boogeyman hits a slam and Little boogeyman hits a couple of seated splashes on Finlay sort of like what Finlay usually does. Little Boogeyman grabs some worms and Hornswoggle, who is under the ring, calls for the tag. Hornswoggle gets in the ring and the crowd love it. Finlay punts Little Boogeyman in the face and then sends Hornswoggle back out of the ring. Little boogeyman rolls Finlay up for a near fall.
Finlay takes Little Boogeyman down with a clothesline from his knees. Finlay hits an elbow drop and then a seated splash. Finlay applies a short-armed scissors and then throws Little Boogeyman out of the ring. Hornswoggle pulls Little Boogeyman under the ring and when Finlay checks on him, The Boogeyman crawls out. Finlay tosses Boogeyman into the barricade and then into the ring. Boogeyman hits a headbutt, two clotheslines and a reverse atomic drop. The crowd are dead for this one. Boogeyman catapults Finlay into a top turnbuckle and then hits a splash in the corner. Boogeyman hits a clothesline and then launches Little Boogeyman into Finlay from the top. Hornswoggle breaks up the count and Boogeyman chases him off out of the ring. Finlay then smashes Little Boogeyman with the shillalah and pins him for the three! Finlay and “The Little Bastard” Hornswoggle win the match! Boogeyman is no longer undefeated on pay per view. Weird match!

Kristal is backstage with Shawn Michaels. Michaels doesn’t think he can trust John Cena, he can only trust Triple H.
Kane vs. King Booker
This is a first time PPV singles match between these two men. Booker has a 1-2 record at No Way Out PPV’s, Kane has a 1-3 record. Kane out-powers Booker in the early going and hits him with right hands. Booker fights back with some chops and Kane then launches him into the corner. Kane drops Booker to the mat and then hits him with elbows and right hands. Kane applies a chinlock which Booker gets out of but Kane drops him with a backbreaker. Kane then looks to hit a chokeslam but Booker fights out of it only to run into Kane’s boot. Kane clotheslines Booker out of the ring but Booker lays into Kane on the outside, smashing Kane into the ring steps. Booker rolls Kane back into the ring and then heads to the top and drops Kane with a missile dropkick. Booker gets a near fall and then stomps away at Kane before applying a wristlock. Kane gets out of it and hits a big boot before heading to the top himself. Kane leaps off but Booker counters it with a heel kick.
Booker hits another heel kick for a near fall. It’s all King Booker as he hits a right hand but Kane fires back with right hands of his own. Booker bounces off the ropes and hits a flying forearm for a near fall. Booker hits some right hands in the corner and then tries for a suplex but he can’t get Kane up and so Kane reverses it. Both men get back to their feet and Booker drops Kane with a kick for a near fall. The two men slug it out and Kane looks to hit a chokeslam but Booker low blows his way out of it. The referee doesn’t see it. Booker attempts his scissors kick but Kane gets out of the way and hits a clothesline. Both men get up and Kane hits some right hands, smashes Booker into a top turnbuckle and follows it up with some right hands. Kane hits two clotheslines in the corner and then a sidewalk slam. Kane heads to the top and dives off with a clothesline. Kane motions for a chokeslam but Sharmell gets up on the apron and distracts the referee. Kane is also distracted and walks into a kick to the face. Kane then chokeslams Booker and gets the 3! Kane beats King Booker tonight!

Kristal is backstage with Batista who isn’t intimidated by anyone.
Paul London & Brian Kendrick (c) vs. Deuce & Domino – WWE Tag Team Championship match

Paul London starts the match against Domino. Domino slaps London and London slaps him back. London hits a flying elbow and then tags in Kendrick and we get a nice double team arm drag. Kendrick hits another arm drag and then tags in Paul London who comes in with a stomp off the top. The tag team champions then dispose of Deuce before double dropkicking Domino out of the ring. London hits a drop toe hold and then applies a headlock. Deuce makes a blind tag and then double team London. Deuce hits a backbreaker for a near fall and then a clothesline before applying a submission hold. Domino is bleeding from the mouth on the outside. Deuce hits a hard Irish whip and then tags in Domino. I like Domino. He clubs away at London and then slams London before applying a surfboard stretch.
London gets out of the hold but Domino takes him down with a double underhook suplex for a near fall. Domino tags Deuce who slams London into the corner. Deuce tags Domino who hits a knee drop on London. Quick tags now between the challengers who hits a double back body drop on London for a near fall. Deuce applies a chinlock which London gets out of but Deuce knocks Kendrick off the apron and drags London away. London manages to avoid attacks from both opponents and then tags in Kendrick. Kendrick dropkicks Domino out of the ring and then rolls Deuce up for a near fall. Deuce drops Kendrick with a right hand and then pops Kendrick on his shoulders. Domino heads up top but Kendrick rolls Deuce up and Domino misses with the clothesline. The referee counts the three which means London and Kendrick retain!

There’s a video package about Bobby Lashley next with soundbites from his family.
Kristal is backstage with Mr Kennedy. Kennedy says Lashley is much like the people of LA, a phoney wannabe. Bobby Lashley shows up with one word for Kennedy, “halitosis”. That means bad breath. Kennedy looks for a cheap shot but Lashley takes him down.

Mr Kennedy applies a leg lock and then breaks the hold to drop elbows on Lashley’s knee. This match has been a slow one. A “boring” chant breaks out as Kennedy applies another single Boston crab. Lashley gets out of it but Kennedy hits Lashley with his falling Samoan drop. Kennedy then looks to hit the Kenton bomb but Lashley gets his knees up! Lashley gets to his feet and hits a t-bone suplex for a near fall. This match is seriously terrible. Lashley applies a torture rack and turns it into a backbreaker for a near fall. Kennedy gets back into it with a spinning neckbreaker for a near fall. Kennedy then takes out the referee by accident.

Well, that was No Way Out 2007. In a lot of ways I can see why the buyrate was so low. But the show did start off really well. The Hardy Boyz, MNM and Chris Benoit are guaranteed to put on great matches at the moment. The six man tag team match was no different. It looks like we’re headed for a Chris Benoit vs. MVP feud over the United States title which makes a lot of sense to me. I read that the Hardy Boyz and MNM were taken out of the tag team title match in order to focus them on singles careers but clearly that wasn’t actually the case. Benoit and The Hardy Boyz won but to be honest it would have been refreshing to see MNM beat The Hardy Boyz for once and maybe an MVP win over Chris Benoit to kick off their feud.
The good quality continued in the Cruiserweight open. I enjoyed this match. I was surprised to see Gregory Helms lose his title, especially in the fashion that he did. Chavo Guerrero was then the surprise entrant that beat Jimmy wang Yang to become champion. It’s not the freshest champion, I feel like Chavo has had enough title reigns but it’ll be interesting to see if this reign is any different. At the moment I don’t get it but we’ll see. The Boogeyman/Finlay tag team match was decent comedy but nothing more. Boogeyman lost for the first ever time on PPV and I’m not totally sure if this feud is over. I’m inclined to think it will continue. Kane beats King Booker in a match that I thought would go the other way. Maybe this means Kane will be in a bigger match than Booker at Wrestlemania? Kane beats Booker clean so I think this feud will be over unless they go for a big gimmick match at Wrestlemania. I’d have preferred to have seen Booker win. I hope this isn’t the end of his push.
London and Kendrick defeated Deuce and Domino in a pretty average match. I really like Deuce and Domino. There have been a lot of gimmicky tag teams over the past 12 months and this is another one but for whatever reason I really like them. London and Kendrick are heaving one hell of a reign as champions but I can see Deuce and Domino as champions one day. Kendricks win looked a bit of a fluke so maybe the feud will continue. There aren’t a lot of other teams on Smackdown at the moment! Bobby Lashley beat Mr Kennedy in a really slow match. I hate to say it because I am a HUGE Mr Kennedy fan but this was so disappointing. Mr Kennedy won by disqualification which was a bit of a surprise to me as Lashley has been getting a good push as of late. Lashley will go back to ECW and who knows who his next opponent will be and I’m not sure where Kennedy fits into the Wrestlemania puzzle. Maybe Money In the Bank?
Then came the tag team main event. Batista turned on Undertaker in payback for Undertaker chokeslamming him a few weeks ago. I did expect them to win the match as it was a Smackdown PPV but this finish makes sense. The match was above average but nothing spectacular. Michaels and Cena go back to Raw and the build to Wrestlemania really kicks off now! Overall an average feeling pay per view.
Overall Rating: 51.4/100 (ranked 165th out of 207)
Match Of The Night: Benoit & The Hardyz vs. MVP & MNM / The Cruiserweight Open
Worst Match Of The Night: Bobby Lashley vs. Mr Kennedy
Surprise Of The Night: Chavo Guerrero becomes Cruiserweight Champion
Worst Booking Of The Night: I’d have had MVP pin Benoit
Superstar Of The Night: Batista
No Way Out 2007 will Be Remembered For: The meeting between two Wrestlemania main events
Apparently, the reason why we didn’t get the Armageddon ladder rematch was because Vince McMahon made the decision that the Hardyz and MNM would no longer be teaming, and that he wanted all four competitors to go back to singles competition post-haste.
Once that call was made, Stephanie McMahon booked Deuce and Domino to challenge Londrick for the titles, while the Hardyz and MNM competed in the opening six-man tag-team match with Chris Benoit and Montel Vontavious Porter as their respective partners, and the Blue Bloods did not compete on the card.
