This is the first ever Money In The Bank pay per view, taking one of the most exciting Wrestlemania matches and giving the match its own PPV. There will be two MITB ladder matches tonight but I’ll get to those shortly. The WWE Championship will be on the line tonight as Sheamus defends against former champion John Cena. Cena attempted to use his rematch clause the night after Fatal 4-Way but The Nexus would interfere. After Nexus took out Raw General Manager Bret Hart, he was replaced by an anonymous general manager who contacts Michael Cole via laptop. The anonymous general manager decided that Sheamus would defend the WWE Championship against Cena at Money In The Bank in a steel cage match. Jack Swagger will also get his rematch against Rey Mysterio tonight for the World Heavyweight Championship. Swagger has gone on a spree of injuring Mysterio as well as guys like The Big Show. Mysterio goes into this match with an injured ankle.
There will be a Raw and a Smackdown Money In The Bank ladder match tonight. Competitors for the Raw ladder match were announced by Raw Guest Host Rob Zombie, they were Randy Orton, The Miz, Edge, John Morrison, Evan Bourne, Chris Jericho, Ted DiBiase and R-Truth. The Miz would attack and injure R-Truth on Raw, taking him out of the match. Truth was then replaced by Mark Henry. Over on Smackdown, Matt Hardy, Kane, Christian, Kofi Kingston, Big Show and Cody Rhodes were announced for the Smackdown Money In The Bank ladder match. Dolph Ziggler would join them after he beat MVP and Chavo Guerrero in a triple threat match and Drew McIntyre would also qualify after he beat Kofi Kingston.
There are three other title matches scheduled for tonight. The Hart Dynasty will be defending their Unified Tag Team Championships against the men that have been a thorn in their side since their debut, The Usos. Layla will be defending the WWE Women’s Championship against Kelly Kelly, whom Layla and Michelle McCool have been bullying over the last few weeks, dubbing her “Smelly Kelly”. And Alicia Fox will defend her WWE Divas Championship against the former champion Eve Torres.
In a dark match prior to the event Santino defeated William Regal.
The show starts off with an emotional video package about risking it all for Money In The Bank. 16 men get the opportunity tonight and so far everybody that has cashed in the briefcase has won a world title. Speaking of world titles, those matches don[t get a mention in the opening package. Oh, nice music as we get the arena shot.
Michael Cole welcomes us to the show, he is joined by Jerry “The King” Lawler and Matt Striker.
Kofi Kingston vs. The Big Show vs. Matt Hardy vs. Christian vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Kane vs. Cody Rhodes – Smackdown Money In The Bank Ladder match
We’re kicking things off in a big way! None of these men have won MITB before, Kane and Christian have both wrestled in this match type four times before, they have the most experience. Big Show and Cody Rhodes wrestle in a MITV match for the first time today. It’s tough to decide who will win this match, there isn’t somebody who is ready for that next jump to the top of the card. Christian maybe? The bell rings and all six men go after Kane and Big Show until the two big men clear the ring and square off. Big Show drops Kane and then looks to climb the ladder but Big Show’s foot goes right through the rung! Big Show fights off everyone that tries to get in the ring and then throws the ladder to the outside at Kane. Big Show heads to the outside where everyone jumps on top of him and throws him into the ring steps. Drew McIntyre slingshots Christian into a ladder. It’s the first time the likes of Christian and Matt Hardy have wrestled on PPV since Wrestlemania and the last MITB ladder match.
Drew McIntyre looks to climb a ladder but Matt Hardy takes him down, suing a ladder of his own. Hardy climbs a ladder but Christian pulls him down. Christian then climbs the ladder but Matt Hardy pulls him down. Hardy throws Christian out of the ring and follows him out which allows Cody Rhodes to climb the ladder but Kofi Kingston leaps into the ring and kicks Rhodes down. Kofi then climbs the ladder but Dolph Ziggler stops him from getting to the top. Ziggler climbs the ladder and gets all the way to the top but Christian goes up with him. Ziggler and Christian slug it out and Christian hiptosses Dolph Ziggler down to the mat. Matt Hardy pushes over the ladder, not allowing Christian to get the briefcase. Kane looks to chokeslam both Hardy and Christian but they counter it with a double DDT. Hardy and Christian then sandwich Kane with ladders before turning on one another. Hardy looks for twist of fate but christian counters it and flapjacks Hardy on to a ladder.
Cody Rhodes and Kofi Kingston double team Kane and Matt Hardy hits Kane with twist of fate. Kofi climbs a ladder but Cody side suplexes him back down to the mat. Cody Rhodes and Matt Hardy exchange blows at the top of the ladder until Drew McIntyre pushes the ladder over. McIntyre then disposes of both Rhodes and Hardy and climbs a ladder but Dolph Ziggler pulls him down. McIntyre disposes of Ziggler but Kane pulls Drew out of the ring. Kane takes apart the announce desk and then the Spanish announce desk but McIntyre manages to fight him off. Kofi baseball slides a ladder into the face of Kane and then hits trouble in paradise on McIntyre leaving him laying on the Spanish announce desk. Kofi climbs up a nearby ladder and hits the boom drop on McIntyre through the Spanish announce desk! In the ring Dolph Ziggler climbs the ladder and reaches the briefcase but Big Show pulls him down and chokeslams him!
Kane gets in the ring and looks to chokeslam Big Show but Show fights him off. Big Show hits Kane with a ladder and then squashes him in the corner. Christian and Matt Hardy smash Big Show with a ladder but Big Show fights them both off. I think I’d quite like to see Matt Hardy and Christian as a tag team. Big Show then reaches under the ring and pulls out a huge reinforced ladder. The ladder is so big that Big Show can’t get it into the ring. This is embarrassing. Big Show eventually gets it in. This ladder is huge. Big Show sets it up and start to climb it but Cody Rhodes attacks him with a step ladder. Cody then climbs the huge ladder but Dolph Ziggler hits him with an electric chair drop. Ziggler very slowly climbs the ladder but Big Show chops him right back off it. Kofi Kingston springboards on to the ladder and Big Show looks to pull him down but Kingston counters with a tornado DDT.
Kofi climbs the ladder once more but it’s Cody Rhodes with a missile dropkick to take Kingston off the ladder. Rhodes hits Kofi with Cross-Rhodes onto a ladder and then climbs the giant ladder himself. Dolph takes him down and smashes him off the ladder with a modified zig-zag. Big Show is back up, he has been a big part of this match, he fights off anybody moving but he’s limping. Big show climbs the ladder but Kane pushes it over, sending Big Show to the outside. The other competitors then drop ladders on top of Big Show on the outside. Kane climbs the giant ladder in the ring but Christian and Matt Hardy fight him down. Cody Rhodes climbs the ladder, as does Matt Hardy but Kane chokeslams Hardy. Kane then pulls Cody Rhodes down and Kane is left on his own! Dolph Ziggler climbs over Kane to the top but Kane pulls him down. Ziggler applies a sleeper to Kane but Kane rams Dolph’s head off the ladder.
Kane disposes of Ziggler, throwing him into the bed of ladders on the outside. Kofi and Cody pull Kane to the outside but Kane fights them off. Kane then chokeslams Kofi onto the ladders. Kane rams Cody into an ambulance which is part of the set by the ramp. Kane races back to the ring and stops Matt Hardy from climbing the ladder. Hardy and Christian hit a double powerbomb on Kane. Matt Hardy and Christian then climb either side of the giant ladder and slug it out at the top. Both men fall down to the mat below and every competitor is down. Drew McIntyre is the first man to stir. He slowly climbs up the giant ladder but Kane climbs up the other side. Kane chokeslams McIntyre to the mat and the crowd roar as Kane unhooks the briefcase to win the match! A really fun match to kick things off tonight. Plenty of spots and most men got a lot of exposure.

Josh Mathews is backstage with Sheamus. Sheamus says that he thought he was untouchable when it came to The Nexus but that all changed last week. Sheamus says that he has beaten Cena for the WWE Championship and he pinned him at fatal 4-way to win the title for a second time but Sheamus doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Sheamus hates Cena and will see how many jokes he makes tonight as he bounces his head off the cage. Tonight Cena finds out that Sheamus is a bigger threat than The Nexus.
Alicia Fox (c) vs. Eve – WWE Divas Championship match
This is a first time singles match between these two girls on PPV. Eve lost the title to Alicia Fox at Fatal 4-Way mast month. There’s an aggressive collar an elbow tie to up kick things off and Eve manages to throw Fox across the ring. Eve gets a couple of pinfalls and one counts as a “Daniel Bryan” chant breaks out. Eve hits a dropkick and then a clothesline in the corner. Eve looks for a tornado DDT but Alicia pulls her down from the second rope. Eve rolls all the way to the outside so Alicia follows and smashes her into the ring apron. Fox then pulls Eve back into the ring and pins her for a two count. The crowd is pretty dead at this point. Alicia works on Eve’s back, clubbing away and hitting her with backbreakers. Eve fights her off with knees but Alicia Fox hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a two count. Fox applies a modified bow and arrow but Eve counters it with a monkey flip.
Eve hits some elbows and a cross body for a one count. The pace quickens as Eve hits a couple of dropkicks and then looks for a suplex but she can’t do it as he back is hurting. Eve manages to fight Alicia off and hits her with a standing moonsault for the first near fall of the night. Eve goes up to the middle rope and looks for a rolling senton but Alicia Fox gets her knees up and then hits an axe kick which is enough for the three! Not a terrible match between these two but the crowd really wren’t into it.

We’re shown some footage from Smackdown with Jack Swagger denying that he attacked The Undertaker to Kane before getting attacked by Rey Mysterio. Swagger then left his father to get chokeslammed by Kane.
Jack Swagger is backstage talking to his mother on the phone. He’s trying to justify what he did on Smackdown last week.
The Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & DH Smith) (c) vs. The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) – Unified Tag Team Championship match
This is a first time two on two tag team match on PPV between these two teams. Natalya is in the corner for The Hart Dynasty who are undefeated on PPV. Tamina is in the corner for The Usos who are looking for their first PPV victory tonight. Smith and Jey Uso start the match where Smith applies an armbar and then hits a powerslam. Tyson Kidd tags himself in and hits a hurricanrana on Jey for a one count. Tyson tags Smith back in but Jey takes him down and hits him with some right hands. Jey tags in Jimmy who hits some big right hands and stomps. Jimmy lays in more kicks and stomps for a two count and tags in Jey. Jey hits the running arse splash on DH Smith for a two count. The Usos double team Smith and Jey applies a wristlock. Smith gets out of it and hits a back body drop so Jey tags in Jimmy who stops DH Smith from making a tag.
Jimmy Uso hits a diving headbutt for a near fall and then applies a chinlock. Smith fights out of it and hits a belly to belly throw. Jimmy tags in Jey and Smith tags in Tyson Kidd. Kidd hits dropkicks on Jey and then a nice bridging cover but Jey tags in Jimmy. Jimmy hits a nice Samoan drop for a near fall and then lays in some right hands. Jimmy hits a powerslam and then heads to the top for a splash but Kidd gets his knees up. Tyson tags in DH Smith who hits a big shoulder charge on Jimmy Uso. Smith then looks for s sharpshooter but he’s distracted by Tamina who is up on the apron. Natalya slams Tamina off the apron and Smith locks the sharpshooter on Jimmy Uso! Tyson Kidd takes out Jey Uso and Jimmy taps out! By my maths that is five PPV matches unbeaten for Tyson Kidd and DH Smith! Nobody else up to now can match that record.

There’s a video package showing the recent history between Rey Mysterio and Jack Swagger.
Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Jack Swagger – World Heavyweight Championship match
This is a first time singles match between these two men on pay per view. It’s a first time defence for Mysterio during this World Heavyweight Championship reign. Swagger looks for an ankle lock early but Rey kicks him away. Rey hits a chop block and then some kicks. He tries for a springboard moonsault but Swagger catches him and ties the World Heavyweight Champion up in the corner. Mysterio hits a tilt-a-whirl head-scissors and then a split-legged moonsault for a near fall. Swagger hits a big wheelbarrow suplex for a two count and then hits the gut-wrench powerbomb but Rey gets his foot on the ropes to save himself getting pinned in this match. Mysterio hurricanranas Swagger into the ringpost and then heads to the top but Jack hits him with some right hands and then looks for a powerslam off the second rope but Mysterio counters it with a DDT. I wasn’t fan of that as Swagger spun Rey around to hit the DDT. Rey gets a near fall and then hits the 619!
Mysterio looks for the springboard seated senton but Swagger counters it, he catches Rey and then locks on the ankle lock. Rey gets to the ropes to break the hold but Swagger immediately flattens him with two Vader bombs. Swagger goes back to stomping on Mysterio’s injured ankle and then locks the ankle lock back on but Rey rolls Swagger up and gets the three! Layla (c) vs. Kelly Kelly – WWE Women’s Championship
This is a first time match between these two girls on pay per view and unless I’m mistaken, a first singles match for both girls on PPV. Kelly Kelly has Tiffany in her corner, Layla is joined by Michelle McCool. These girls were once part of the Extreme Expose together. Kelly takes down Layla early and then slaps her about. Kelly misses with a handspring elbow but then hits a victory roll for a near fall. Kelly Kelly kicks Layla out of the ring and then walks on the apron setting up to something but Layla pulls the apron from out beneath her and lays in some kicks. Layla now works the left leg of Kelly Kelly before wrapping it around the bottom rope. Layla then baseball slides Kelly Kelly out of the ring and right into Michelle McCool! Layla throws Kelly into the barricade and with the referee distracted Michelle McCool continues to the attack on Kelly Kelly.
Kelly pushes Michelle over the barricade and then smashes Layla off the ring apron. Back in the ring and Kelly hits some clotheslines and a jackknife cover for a two count. Kelly it’s a fame-asser which Matt Striker calls the K2 but Michelle puts Layla’s foot o the bottom rope. Kelly and tiffany then take out Michelle. Randy Orton vs. Evan Bourne vs. Mark Henry vs. John Morrison vs. Edge vs. Chris Jericho vs. The Miz vs. Ted DiBiase – Raw Money In The Bank Ladder match
The second ladder match of the evening. Randy Orton, Chris Jericho and The Miz join Rey Mysterio as the only four men to have wrestled on all seven PPV’s in 2010. Edge has won this match once before, the first ever Money In The Bank ladder match back in 2005. Edge is the last man to enter and he slides a ladder in to the ring and slides straight back out. The remaining men then go after Mark Henry which is a clunky way to start the match. Miz hits a big clothesline on Mark Henry and Evan Bourne follows it up with a running dropkick to The World’s Strongest Man. Edge then climbs a ladder but Randy Orton pulls him down. Randy kicks Edge out of the ring and lays into him on the outside. Ted DiBiase swings a ladder at John Morrison and misses. DiBiase hits a clothesline on Morrison onto the ladder and then swings a ladder at Randy Orton. Evan Bourne dropkicks the ladder into DiBiase’s face but The Miz attacks Bourne from behind.
Jericho and The Miz fight over the ladder and the two men slug it out. The Miz lays into Jericho with right hands until Mark Henry throws a ladder at both men. Henry powers Miz out of the ring and Jericho rams a ladder into Henry’s face before dumping the ladder on top of him. Evan Bourne sets up a ladder in the ring and then drop toe holds Jericho into it. Bourne sets up a bigger ladder, he got his first ever PPV victory last month, that was against Chris Jericho. Bourne climbs a ladder but Edge stops him from getting to the top. Orton traps Bourne in a ladder and then hits him with a hangmans DDT. John Morrison attacks Orton from behind and hits him with the flash kick, formally the flying Chuck. Morrison looks for a suplex on Dibiase onto the ladder but Miz attacks Morrison from behind. DiBiase and Miz double team Morrison but Morrison manages to smash both men into a ladder.
John Morrison sets up a ladder but it’s quite far away from the briefcase. Morrison climbs the ladder but Edge climbs up the other side and the two men slug it out. Jericho climbs a ladder of his own but Orton climbs the other side of that one. All four men are at the top of ladders but Mark Henry pushes both ladders over sending all four men sprawling. Evan Bourne springboard dropkicks Mark Henry but he goes flying to the outside. Maryse is ringside checking on Ted DiBiase and then decides to get in an empty ring. Maryse sets up a ladder and slowly climbs up it but John Morrison gets in the ring and pulls her down. He tells her to get out of here which allows Ted DiBiase to climb up the ladder but Morrison spots him and pulls him down. Morrison and DiBiase battle to the outside where Miz attacks Morrison with a ladder. Miz drops Morrison on the barricade and then slingshots his former partner into a ladder but Morrison lands on the ladder and climbs up it into the ring and then onto a ladder in the middle of the ring. That was nice.
Edge pulls Morrison through the ladder and ties him up. Edge and Miz then bash Morrison with another ladder until Edge jabs Miz with it. Edge pushes over the ladder with Morrison caught in it and that looked painful. Edge sets up another ladder but DiBiase jabs him with a ladder. DiBiase is setting up the ladders in a strange way, one is upside down. He fights off Chris Jericho, Randy Orton and Edge. Dibiase climbs up a ladder set up correctly but Mark Henry pulls him down. DiBiase manages to fight him off but Henry catches him and hits him with a world’s strongest slam. Henry lays waste to Jericho and Miz and decides to climb the ladder himself. Mark Henry replaced R-Truth in this match. Evan Bourne climbs over Mark Henry to the top of the ladder but Edge and Orton throw him all the way down to Mark Henry who is outside the ring. John Morrison then takes out Henry with a flash kick, Jericho hits Henry with a codebreaker and Edge puts the final nail in the coffin with a spear.
Miz, Morrison, Orton and Jericho all climb up a single ladder and slug it out. Edge joins them, as does Ted DiBiase. DiBiase pulls Miz down, Edge and Orton fall down and then pull DiBiase down before throwing him out of the ring on top of a ladder. Orton then RKO’s Edge which leaves Jericho and Morrison slugging it out on top of the ladder. Jericho must be a heavy favourite to win. Morrison ties Jericho up in the ladder, Orton pulls Morrison down with an RKO and Evan Bourne then hits Orton with Air Bourne! Evan climbs up the ladder and is left alone, he makes it to the top but he can’t unhook it, what an idiot. He had ages too. Jericho unties himself and hits Bourne with right hands and the briefcase to knock Evan off the top of the ladder. Edge climbs the ladder and slugs it out with Jericho at the top. Michael Cole claims that Edge is the most successful Money In The Bank winner ever, I would disagree and say that it’s CM Punk. Orton hits Jericho with an RKO leaving Edge alone at the top of the ladder.
Orton throws Edge off the ladder and into another ladder which looked painful. The crowd go wild for Orton who is left in the ring to climb the ladder. Orton gets to the top but The Miz pushes over the ladder. Miz then climbs up the ladder to a chorus of boos and unhooks the briefcase to win the match! That is a huge win for The Miz. The Miz gets on the mic after the match and says that we are all living in his moment. The Miz claims that he has made it.

There’s a video package next for John Cena and Sheamus.

This is a second PPV match between these two men, Sheamus previously beat Cena at TLC 2009. Sheamus’s current WWE Championship reign is the 100th WWE Championship reign in history. There have been 39 men to hold that title. Will The Nexus show up tonight? Sheamus starts the match by trying to ram John Cena into the side of the cage but Cena puts the brakes on to stop him. Sheamus and John Cena slug it out until Cena hits a shoulder charge. Cena attempts a second but sheamus ducks out of the way and Cena hits the cage. Sheamus hits a backbreaker for a two count and then climbs the cage but Cena goes up with him. Cena hits a superplex for a near fall. Cena sets up for the attitude adjustment but Sheamus counters it with a DDT for a two count. Sheamus clubs Cena down to the mat a couple of times as the pace slows right down. Cena then smashes Sheamus off the top of the cage and Cena looks for a top rope five knuckle shuffle but Sheamus rolls out of the way.

Cena sets up for the attitude adjustment again but Sheamus counters with a backbreaker. Sheamus hits Cena with a brogue kick but cena kicks out of the pinfall attempt. Sheamus starts to climb the cage but then climbs back down where Cena hits him with an attitude adjustment for a near fall. The Nexus then walk out from the back, all seven of them. Darren Young has a new haircut. And Michael Tarver has bolt cutters. The referee takes away the bolt cutters and runs to the back. The Nexus then intimate the other referee to get the key off him so the referee throws the key into the crowd!
In the ring Cena sets up for an attitude adjustment but Sheamus slips down the back and pushes Cena who gets knocked into the referee! Cena locks on the STF and Sheamus taps out but the referee is down! Cena climbs up the cage but Justin Gabriel of The Nexus climbs up to the top with him. Sheamus got down before Cena and wins the match to retain the WWE Championship! A slow paced cage match, nothing too exciting. After the match John Cena lays out Darren Young and Michael Tarver.

And that was the first ever Money In The Bank pay per view. The MITB ladder matches were a lot of fun and definitely the highlight of the show. The Smackdown one in particular was the match of the night and had some great spots. Kofi coming off the top of the ladder, putting Drew McIntyre through the announce table was one of the highlights of the night. I’m glad they went down to 8 guys from 10 but they could even go down to 6 or 7. I actually thought Christian or Drew McIntyre would win this match but Kane isn’t a huge surprise, he’s got a really good storyline at the moment. This was a really well laid out match and a great way to start the show. Alicia Fox then beat Eve and you can see that Eve has got a lot better in the ring. Alicia wins though and this programme hasn’t been one I’ve cared about. I’m guessing this will put Eve out of the title race for the time being.
The Hart Dynasty then beat The Usos to retain the tag team championships. These are two solid enough teams that I think can only improve and be really special in the future. It’s probably a bit soon for The Usos to win the titles so I don’t mind this result but I definitely think this isn’t the last we’ve seen of them in the title picture. There are next to no tag teams at the moment so I’m not sure who The Hart Dynasty will feud with next. Rey Mysterio then beat Jack Swagger and due to Mysterio’s injuries this match wasn’t as good as a usual Mysterio match. I have no idea if the injury is legit or whether Rey just did a really good job of selling. Mysterio retained but was beaten minutes later when Kane cashed in his Money In The Bank contract. This was really good, Kane sure has benefitted from Undertaker getting injured. Kane hasn’t had a world title reign since 1998 so it’s well deserved.
Layla and Kelly Kelly were up next and this was as you’d expect. Not great. I love Layla’s character, I think she’s the real star in the Lay-Cool team so it’s nice to see her get some exposure but I’m not sure how many favours this match has done for her. The Raw Money In The Bank ladder match was up next and although it wasn’t as good as the first, it was still a good match. The Miz came away with the briefcase which is a reward for all the hard work he has been putting in. I’m not sure anybody has improved over the past couple of years as much as he has. There wasn’t as many memorable spots in this match but it did have a better line-up than the Smackdown match. Miz wins and it’ll be interesting to see if he is the first man to cash-in and lose.
In the main event Sheamus beat John Cena to retain the WWE Championship. This wasn’t the best cage match I’ve ever seen, it had a really slow pace but did pick up for the finish. The Nexus sort of helped Sheamus to win although it looked like they were stopping both men from winning. Sheamus goes on to Summerslam where he will probably face with John Cena or Randy Orton as there aren’t many top faces at the moment. The Nexus storyline is the most interesting thing on tv at the moment so I can’t wait to see what happens with that over the coming weeks.
