The WWE is currently going through a phase where they are introducing new pay per view concepts based around themes. The theme for this one is fatal four way matches and tonight will feature three of them. John Cena will be defending the WWE Championship in a fatal four way against three men that had to qualify to earn their spot. General Manager Bret Hart announced that Batista would take on Randy Orton in a qualification match but Batista was too injured to wrestle and even went as far as to quit the company. Joining Randy Orton would be Sheamus who beat Mark Henry to qualify and Edge who won a triple threat match involving Chris Jericho and John Cena. It’s been a fairly standard build between the four men involved in the match but they have been looking over their shoulders for the NXT graduates.
NXT was a reality based series featuring 8 rookies all competing for a spot in the WWE. The show involved Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, Michael Tarver, Darren Young, Skip Sheffield, David Otunga and Daniel Bryan. Barrett won the show but the 8 men debuted not long after as a collective, attacking everybody that stood in their way. Daniel Bryan was so heinous in his attacks that he has been fired as a result. Will this group of NXT renegades show up tonight?
The World Heavyweight Championship will also be defended in a fatal four way match. Big Show automatically qualified with Jack Swagger as Show beat Swagger at Over The Limit last month. CM Punk qualified by beating Kane and The Undertaker qualified by beating Rey Mysterio. The Undertaker was then removed from the match as he was found attacked and unable to compete (he was really injured by Rey Mysterio in their match). A battle royal would determine who would take his spot and that was won by Rey Mysterio. Kane has been on a mission ever since to find out who attacked his brother. The other fatal four way match tonight sees Eve Torres defending the WWE Divas Championship against Maryse, Gail Kim and Alicia Fox.
Last week on Raw The Miz won the United States Championship, beating R-Truth, John Morrison and Zack Ryder in a fatal four way match. This was a few weeks after Bret Hart had vacated the title he won from The Miz and R-Truth beat The Miz to win the title. Tonight R-Truth has his rematch against The Miz for the championship. The Intercontinental Championship will also be on the line tonight as Kofi Kingston defends against the former champion Drew McIntyre. McIntyre has been bullying and terrorising Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long over the past few weeks due to McIntyre’s relationship with Vince McMahon. Also tonight is a 6 person tag team match with The Hart Dynasty and Natalya taking on the new team of The Usos and Tamina who have been attacking the tag team champions as of late and Chris Jericho will take on Evan Bourne.
In a dark match prior to the event Zack Ryder defeated MVP.
A video package kicks us off telling us that these are the worst ever odds for a champion. They’re not, that’s a blatant lie. Anyway, the package focuses on the two main title matches and then Kane’s path of destruction trying to work out who attacked his brother. Michael Cole welcomes us to the show.
Vince McMahon is introduced and the chairman of the WWE comes out to the stage. He tells us that Bret Hart won’t be here tonight due to the attack from the NXT graduates. We’re show the footage of the attack and McMahon tells us that he will be meeting up with Bret Hart representative later. A “Daniel Bryan” chant breaks out. Drew McIntyre’s music hits and he walks out and shakes the hand of Vince McMahon. We’re shown Vince McMahon leaving the building in his limo.
Drew gets on the mic and calls out Teddy Long to sit and watch from ringside, telling the General Manager of Smackdown that when he wins the Intercontinental Championship, Teddy will hand it to him. Apparently they’re Vince McMahons orders.
Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Drew McIntyre – Intercontinental Championship match
This is the second PPV meeting between these two men, Kofi beat Drew at Over The Limit last month. This match kicked off Over The Limit too. The match starts at a frantic pace with Kingston laying in kicks and Drew firing back with right hands to ground the champion. Kofi hits a monkey flip and a dropkick before clotheslining Drew McIntyre out of the ring. Kofi dives out of the ring on McIntyre with a suicide dive and then rolls him back into the ring. Drew rolls all the way out of the ring on the other side and then knocks Kofi off the apron. Back in the ring and Drew rams Kingston into the ringpost for a one count. McIntyre works the left arm of Kingston but Kofi gets back into it with a dropkick. Drew smashes Kofi’s arm into the ringpost and pins him for the first near fall of the night. McIntyre applies an armbar which Kofi gets out of by hitting an armdrag but McIntyre knocks Kofi down with a shoulder charge.
McIntyre goes back to the arm bar before hitting a knee drop to the left arm of Kofi. Drew applies a camel clutch but Kingston is comfortably at the ropes so Drew goes back to the armbar. Kofi gets out of the hold but Drew hits a running boot to the arm. McIntyre hits some clubbing blows and then looks for a clothesline but Kingston counters with a DDT. Kingston picks up the pace, hitting some kicks and right hands, chops and a dropkick. Kofi rolls McIntyre up for a two count but runs into an elbow. Kofi ducks a clothesline and hits a springboard cross body for a two count. McIntyre hits a neckbreaker for a two count. Kofi hits a side Russian leg sweep and then the boom drop before motioning for trouble in paradise. McIntyre backs off and then back body drops Kofi onto the apron. McIntyre then looks for a slam but Kingston counters it and rolls his challenger up for a two count.
Drew McIntyre hits a running boot on Kofi and looks for the futureshock but Kofi counters it and hits a tornado DDT for a two count. Kofi looks for some right hands in the corner but McIntyre counters with a powerbomb for a near fall. Kofi hits the SOS for a near fall of his own and then applies a standing head scissors but McIntyre throws Kofi into the referee, knocking him down. McIntyre then throws Kofi into the ringpost and hits him with the futureshock but the referee is down! Where’s Matt Hardy? McIntyre tries to wake up the referee but he is out. McIntyre then demands that Teddy Long gets into the ring, Drew puts the referees shirt on Long and covers Kingston but Long counts to two and stops! Teddy Long shakes his head refusing to make the count! McIntyre gets in Longs face and tells him to make the count. Drew sets Kofi up for another futureshock but Matt Hardy comes from nowhere and drops McIntyre with the twist of fate! Kofi then hits Drew with trouble in paradise and hooks the leg, Teddy Long counts the three and Kofi Kingston retains his Intercontinental Championship tonight!
Great match to kick things off with. Great story, good wrestling. Two talented midcarders.

Eve and Maryse mostly roll around on the floor. Alicia kicks Gail Kim and hits her with a northern lights suplex for a two count. Eve pins Alicia for a near fall and Maryse pins Eve for a two count. Alicia hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on Gail Kim. Eve fights off both Maryse and Alicia but the numbers becomes too much and the girls double team Eve. Gail Kim gets back involved and applies a head scissors to Alicia Fox. Even then applies a cross-arm breaker to Maryse so Gail breaks her hold and then breaks up Eve’s hold. Gail Kim applies a fujiwara arm breaker to Maryse and Alicia Fox breaks it up before applying an armbar of her own to Maryse!
Eve applies a camel clutch to Alicia Fox as a “Daniel Bryan” chant breaks out. Gail Kim applies a Boston crab to Alicia at the same time but Maryse breaks it up and throws both Eve and Gail Kim out of the ring. Alicia Fox gets in Maryse’s face but Maryse screams at Fox. They then slug it out and Maryse drops Fox with a kick. Eve gets back involved, as does Gail Kim, taking everyone out. Gail hits a cross body on Maryse and then goes to the top and hits a missile dropkick for a one count. Eve broke that up but Gail hits her with a cross body. Alicia Fox drags Gail Kim out of the ring and drops her on the ring apron. Eve hits Maryse with a swinging neckbreaker and then goes to the top and hits a moonsault! She hooks the leg but Alicia Fox throws Eve out of the ring and pins Maryse for the three! Alicia Fox wins the WWE Divas Championship tonight! Not a terrible match but not great.

Chris Jericho’s music hits and out walks Jericho in his wrestling trunks. He gets on the mic before the bell and takes credit for everybody watching WWE right now. But he has a problem and that is that Jericho is not the hot topic of the WWE at the moment. Jericho says that he has a target on his back and Evan Bourne is trying to make a name for himself off Jericho which is why Jericho challenged Bourne to a match.
Evan Bourne vs. Chris Jericho
This is a first time PPV meeting between these two men. It is Jericho’s 25th PPV in a row. Evan Bourne is looking for his first PPV victory tonight. Bourne looks really small compared to Jericho. John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Edge vs. Sheamus – Fatal Four Way Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
The two fatal four way matches tonight have resulted in new champions, as did the fatal four way match on Raw last week. Could this make it four title changes from four in this match type? Michael Cole and Matt Striker are backing Edge to win this one, Jerry Lawler picks John Cena which means he’s losing the title tonight. Cena pairs off with Sheamus as Edge and Orton go at it. And that was the inaugural Fatal 4-Way PPV. There was some real good stuff on this show and there was some pretty poor stuff too. It started well with Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre. I really liked the story in this match, there was a few different threads as McIntyre not only had issues with Kofi Kingston but also with Teddy Long and Matt Hardy. They’re putting a lot of stock in Drew at the moment but not the Intercontinental Championship as Kingston retained with a lot of help from Teddy Long. I liked this a lot, a great story and a good match. The first fatal four way match of the night was next and Eve lost her Divas Championship to Alicia Fox. I was surprised by this result as I don’t think Alicia has really been built up. It wasn’t a great match but it wasn’t terrible. Gail Kin has now wrestled 9 PPV matches and hasn’t won a single one of them. Only Koko B. Ware has a worse PPV record.
Evan Bourne and Chris Jericho were up next and you really get the feeling that Jericho was going out of his way to do Bourne a favour here. This was Bourne’s first PPV victory as well. This was a really good match too, Evan Bourne is a great talent, he’s just a bit small which is probably why he doesn’t get a bigger push. Rey Mysterio won the World Heavyweight Championship, beating Jack Swagger in a fatal four way match after Kane chased off CM Punk. Does that confirm that the Straight-Edge Society were the ones that attacked The Undertaker? This is Mysterio’s first world title in four years so it’ll be interesting to see where this one goes. Has the Swagger train run out of steam? The Miz then beat R-Truth to retain the United States Championship. This match wasn’t great, it went on far too long. There was some really good selling from R-Truth though which did make me wonder whether he was legit injured. Miz retains, he’s really becoming an important star in the WWE.
The six person tag team match was next and Natalya pinned Tamina for the victory. I expected The Usos to pin Tyson or Smith in this match to put them in line for a tag team championship match but it’s not the way it went. Pinning Tamina does protect Jimmy and Jey though. The Usos look like a good team and a proper team so I hope they get a title shot soon. John Cena then lost the WWE Championship after all hell broke loose. The Nexus got involved and it resulted in Sheamus pinning Cena from nowhere to win the gold. I actually really liked this finish. Wade Barrett and his boys are going to continue to run rampant in the WWE and I’m really looking forward to seeing where this storyline is going, Raw is great at the moment for that very reason. Good main event, a lot of fun.

Foxy winning the gold here reeks of “What? I won the Divas belt? See you in two weeks, I’ll give it back.”
I guess the idea is to give Alicia Fox a bit of credibility by having her win the Divas Title here. I say credibility, because since her debut in 2008, Foxy has had some matches, but she’s not viewed as being a threat. So, give Foxy the belt in hopes that it will show she’s a player at a certain level.
I mean, there was enough of a story here, Foxy gets a fluke win, Eve loses the belt, and that’s enough to sink your teeth into. But, it’s kinda sad that – SPOILER – Foxy is not holding onto the belt for a very long time, as she will lose it to Melina at SummerSlam two months later.
