Hell In A Cell is the one night of the year when matches are competed inside the demonic structure. The vacant WWE Championship will be on the line inside of the structure as Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan once again battle for the title. Raw General Manager Brad Maddox announced that the two would compete for the title again but this time there would be a special guest referee. The WWE Universe had the choice to vote for Bob Backlund, Booker T and Shawn Michaels and unsurprisingly it was Shawn Michaels that won. He has plenty of history with Randy Orton through their previous matches in WWE and Michaels also trained Daniel Bryan. Triple H is convinced that Shawn Michaels will do the right thing tonight.
Alberto Del Rio has tried to manipulate Vickie Guerrero over recent weeks but she’s grown tired of it and announced that Alberto Del Rio will be defending his World Heavyweight Championship at Hell In A Cell against the returning John Cena. Brie Bella will be getting a WWE Divas title shot after she beat champion AJ Lee in a non title match on Smackdown and then pinned her again in a tag team match. Big E Langston was supposed to receive an Intercontinental Championship match against Curtis Axel after helping beat down Axel following some criticism from Paul Heyman. The match has been scrapped however due to an injury to Axel so Big E has received a United States Championship match against Dean Ambrose instead.
CM Punk and Ryback were scheduled for a one on one match inside Hell In A Cell in a continuation of their rivalry however Paul Heyman tried to convince Brad Maddox to make the match a 2 on 1 handicap match with Curtis Axel joining Ryback. Brad Maddox made a beat the clock challenge with the winner being able to add a stipulation to the match but it was CM Punk that won the challenge. CM Punk would grant Heymans wish of a handicap match however instead of adding Curtis Axel to the match, Punk added Paul Heyman which makes the match CM Punk vs. Ryback and Paul Heyman inside Hell In A Cell.
Since Battleground three weeks ago Cody Rhodes and Goldust have defeated The Shield for the WWE Tag Team Championships. This set up a match between The Usos and The Shield to determine number one contenders. Cody Rhodes and Goldust were on commentary for the match but were goaded into getting involved and when they did the match was thrown out. Triple H would announce that at Hell In a Cell Cody Rhodes and Goldust would defend their WWE Tag Team Championships against both The Usos and The Shield.
On the kick-off show Damien Sandow defeated Kofi Kingston.
A video package kicks us off focusing on the Hell In A Cell match and previous matches that have occurred in the cell. The focus then moves to Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan’s match and the handicap match between CM Punk and Ryback and Paul Heyman.
Michael Cole welcomes us to the United Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida.

And that was Hell In A Cell 2013. It was an ok show, it felt pretty average overall. The opener was the highlight of the show, I really enjoyed the triple threat tag team match. There was loads of action and all six men involved really shone. It was Cody Rhodes and Goldust who won the match and the tag team champions are really over right now. Cody Rhodes has the potential to be a main event babyface. Really good match between these three teams. The tag team division is heating up right now. Cody and goldust have potential future opponents in The Real Americans, Ryback and Curtis Axel and The Wyatt Family. Fandango and Summer Rare then beat Natalya and The Great Khali which I didn’t expect. Summer Rae pinned Natalya which is a huge rub for Summer Rae who was making her in-ring debut. It was a match that I wasn’t expecting, it wasn’t great but it’s nice to see different faces on pay per view.
Big E beat Dean Ambrose by count out which is a big win for Big E. He’s getting a bit of a singles push at the moment and seems to be pretty popular. I’m not sure if Big E will continue the feud with The Shield but they’ve left another United States Championship match open with this finish. CM Punk beat Ryback and Paul Heyman in what was essentially a singles match with Heyman stood on top of the cell for the duration of the match. It was a decent enough match but nothing too memorable. Paul Heyman coming out on a cherry picker was pretty hilarious. And we got to see what we were hoping for at the end when CM Punk laid into Heyman. Los Matadores beat The Real Americans which I was pretty surprised at. Los Matadores are getting a decent push at the moment so maybe they’ll be in the tag team title picture. They’re pretty entertaining but El Torito is the star of the group.
John Cena beat Alberto Del Rio to win the World Heavyweight Championship. This was a pretty standard match but it gave Cena the big win. Del Rio has had a long reign this year and can’t complain. Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan are doing a great job in their rivalry over the WWE Championship so I guess Cena doesn’t need to be involved in that, hence he’s got this title instead. I’m not actually sure of the point in the World Heavyweight Championship now the brand split is over. AJ Lee beat Brie Bella to retain the Divas Championship. I thought the story to come out of this was Brie kicking Nikki but Nikki seemed to be ok with it after the match. I like this Total Divas vs. other divas feud so I hope that continues but AJ is running out of challengers for the title. I can definitely see one of the total divas winning the title because it would be good for the show.
The main event was good. Randy Orton beat Daniel Bryan to win the WWE Championship. Shawn Michaels superkicked Daniel Bryan in the face which cost him the match and I wonder if this will lead to anything. Imagine Bryan vs. Michaels? That would be class. But Randy Orton is champion and I’m not sure if his feud with Daniel Bryan will continue. Maybe Big Show will step up as his storyline continues or you’ve got someone like Sheamus who might come back and challenge for it. Or there’s always guys like CM Punk who I thought would make a good challenger right now. Overall a pretty average pay per view but it started and ended well.
