Welcome to the 27th year of Survivor Series, the second longest running event in WWE history. The WWE Championship will be defended tonight when Randy Orton puts the title on the line against The Big Show. Big Show was fired from the WWE only a few weeks ago but after threatening a huge lawsuit against the company was re-hired. Big Show would then put a stipulation in his contract that he would receive a WWE Championship match providing he dropped the lawsuit. All hands were shaken and the match was made for Survivor Series.
The World Heavyweight Championship will also be defended tonight as John Cena defends against former champion Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio has been targeting John Cena’s left arm, which he believes isn’t completely healed after Cena returned from his injury early. Last week on Smackdown John Cena came out to the ring in a sling only to reveal that he wasn’t really injured and attacked Alberto Del Rio. The other title match scheduled for tonight is for the Intercontinental Championship where new champion Big E will defend against the man he beat on Raw for the title a few weeks ago, Curtis Axel.
A Survivor Series event wouldn’t be complete without a traditional Survivor Series match and tonight we have two. The tag team scene has really heated up over the last few months and tonight we get a match teaming all three members of The Shield with the Real Americans against Cody Rhodes, Goldust, The Usos and the returning Rey Mysterio. The other traditional Survivor Series elimination match will be 7 against 7 and features the girls of Total Divas (Natalya, Cameron, Naomi, Eva Marie, Jojo and The Bella Twins) against the “True Divas” of AJ Lee, Tamina, Kaitlyn, Rosa Mendes, Aksana, Alicia Fox and Summer Rae.
Also tonight will see the PPV in-ring debut for Luke Harper and Erick Rowan as they take on the “dream team” of CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. The Wyatt Family have been targeting these two men recently and they have joined forces to try and take down the creepy newcomers.
On the kick-off show The Miz defeated Kofi Kingston.
The show kicks off with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon making their way out to the stage. Triple H and Stephanie say that there will be no interference in any match tonight.
A video package then kicks off, mostly focusing on Randy Orton and The Big Show, The Authority and John Cena and Alberto Del Rio.

After the match John Cena walks out and holds up his World Heavyweight Championship. Orton doesn’t seem to know what’s going on. Is a match between these two men coming?
That was Survivor Series 2013. It felt like a pretty average show, not a memorable Survivor Series to be honest. It started really well though. The traditional Survivor Series match that kicked things off was a lot of fun with some of the best wrestlers in the company at the moment. But this match was all about making one man, Roman Reigns. He had a dominant performance, eliminating four men and winning as the soul survivor. It seems as though a star has been picked from The Shield and surprisingly it’s Roman. It’ll be interesting to see where this goes. A really fun match to kick things off though. Big E retained the Intercontinental Championship against Curtis Axel in a not so memorable match. It was the match that was supposed to happen at Hell In A Cell before Axel got injured. I guess the Curtis Axel push is over now and I look forward to seeing what Big E does as Intercontinental Champion.
Next up was the women’s traditional Survivor Series match. This was ok, I mean I do like this style of match but for the most part this was just a series of eliminations with a move or two between them. Natalya and Nikki Bella were the two girls to win the match, despite what Michael Cole told us, and with Natalya pinning AJ Lee to win the match I guess it will lead to a feud between the two. Ryback then came out and made a challenge which was accepted by Mark Henry. With Henry beating Ryback it made Ryback look really stupid. His promo beforehand was good and you wanted someone to come out and shut him up but I do think Ryback should have won this match. That’s twice Mark Henry has beaten Ryback on PPV this year. Hard to come back from.
John Cena beat Alberto Del Rio cleanly in what will presumably put an end to this feud. It was a decent match, they definitely have chemistry. Del Rio had a good run as World Heavyweight Champion but this will take him out of the running for now. It’s not the last we’ll see of John Cena tonight. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan beat Luke Harper and Erick Rowan in a match with the right result. The Wyatt Family came out of the match looking strong but Bryan and Punk are two of the best in the world. I’m not sure if this feud will continue or if Bray Wyatt will become more involved. Randy Orton then beat The Big Show to retain the WWE Championship. This match was a bit touch and go but the authority caused a big enough distraction to help Randy Orton win. Interestingly John Cena came out after the match and there was a bit of a showdown between he and Randy Orton. Are we going to get champion vs. champion going forward? I guess we’ll find out soon!
