And that was Hell In A Cell 2014. You know what, it felt like a good pay per view. There was nothing terrible on the show but there was plenty of good. I really enjoyed the match that opened the show with Cesaro and Dolph Ziggler. Two of the most talented stars on the roster. They put on a really good contest and I’d like to see more matches between the two. Dolph won in two straight falls as he starts to gain a bit of steam. Cesaro has been on a terrible run. All momentum he had after Wrestlemania has well and truly gone. I was surprised to see it end in two straight falls and not go to a third. It was a battle of the sister next as Nikki and Brie battled it out to gain the other as a slave for a month. Nikki Bella surprisingly won the match cleanly. I’m not sure that was the best booking but it was a decent enough match. I’m sure Nikki will make Brie miserable for the next 30 days. You can only think that Brie will eventually win this rivalry.
Gold and Stardust then retained the WWE Tag Team Championships against The Usos. This was a good match. Not as good as some of The Usos recent matches but still a good match none the less. This will take The Usos out of the tag team title hunt for the time being but I hope it’s not too long before they’re back involved. The champions won by a little bit of cheating but not too much. The tag team division is dwindling a little so it’ll be interesting to see who step up next. John Cena and Randy Orton then battled in a number one contenders Hell In A Cell match in a match that John Cena won. This was a good match but I just feel like I’ve seen it too many times before and it wasn’t their best. I guess we’ll see Cena and Brock again soon, probably Survivor Series. I would’ve preferred to see Lesnar and Orton though.
Sheamus beat The Miz cleanly to retain his United States Championship. I love the Mizdow gimmick. That is one of the most entertaining things on the show at the moment. Sheamus wins though and he’s a good champion which elevates the championship. I don’t know where either men go from here, this match was won cleanly enough that I can’t see a rematch. Rusev and Big Show were up next in a dramatic match. Plenty of good psychology and story behind this one. Mark Henry sort of helped cost Big Show the match so we’ll probably get another Big Show heel turn. Rusev is unstoppable at the moment, can he be beaten? It’ll be a huge win for the man that finally beats Rusev. Not a terrible match between these two men tonight.
AJ Lee beat Paige to retain the WWE Divas championship. I guess Paige can blame Alicia Fox for this one and she slaps her after the match. Could this be the end of the AJ and Paige feud? I have a feeling it won’t be. I’m glad we didn’t get another title switch though. Not a bad match between these two girls here. Seth Rollins then beat Dean Ambrose with help from Bray Wyatt. I enjoyed this match a lot. They were in the main event and came across like main eventers. With Bray Wyatt getting involved it’ll take Dean Ambrose away from Seth who looks to be paired up with John Cena. This was a good main event though in a weird time where there’s a part time WWE Champion.
Overall Rating: 62.5/100 (ranked 78th out of 307)
