The second longest running pay per view of all time Survivor Series returns for 2014 and it has a huge main event. Sadly the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar isn’t scheduled for tonight so instead the main event will be a traditional Survivor Series match. It’ll be Team Authority who is made up of Seth Rollins, Kane, Rusev, Mark Henry and Luke Harper against Team Cena which consists of John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, The Big Show, Ryback and Erick Rowan. At one point team Cena had Jack Swagger and Sheamus in it but The Authority saw to it that they didn’t make it to Survivor Series. Should team Cena win then Vince McMahon himself announced that The Authority would no longer be in charge. But if Team Authority win then Triple H has announced that he will fire every member of Team Cena except John Cena himself. The stakes couldn’t be much higher.

There are three other matches announced for tonight. The WWE Tag Team Championships will be on the line as Goldust and Stardust defend against The Usos, Los Matadores and The Miz and Damien Mizdow. These teams have been beating one another over the past few weeks and the fatal four way match was announced on November 17. The WWE DivaS Championship will also be defended as AJ Lee defends against the winner of a number one contenders battle royal, Nikki Bella, who still has her sister Brie as her slave. The other match officially announced for tonight is between Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt. Bray Wyatt cost Dean Ambrose his match against Seth Rollins at Hell In A Cell and since then the two men have tried to get in one another’s head. It’s a battle of who is the most crazy and it comes to a head tonight.

On the Survivor Series kick-off show Fandango defeated Justin Gabriel, Bad News Barrett had some bad news for everyone and Jack Swagger beat Cesaro.

A video package kicks us off, focusing on the main event, the traditional Survivor Series match between Team Cena and Team Authority.

Michael Cole welcomes us to At Louis. He’s joined by Jerry Lawler and John “Bradshaw” Layfield.

Vince McMahon is the man to open the show. Vince introduces his daughter and son-in-law, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie says that they won’t let him down tonight. Triple H and Stephanie do some sucking up to Vince who ignores them and introduces John Cena! Vince reminds Cena that if his team loses then the rest of his team will be fired. He then reminds Triple H and Stephanie that if their team loses that they will no longer be in power. Cena and The Authority go back and forth, saying pretty much the same as they’ve been saying the last couple of weeks on Raw. Stephanie says that if they lose then The Authority will still be calling the shots in Stamford. Vince disagrees, saying they won’t have any say and what’s more is that there will only be one man that can bring them back to power and that’s John Cena.

Goldust & Stardust (c) vs. The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) vs. Los Matadores (Diego & Fernando) vs. The Miz & Damien Mizdow – Fatal four way match for the WWE Tag Team Championships

Stardust tags Goldust and Fernando tags Jimmy Uso! Jimmy is fired up on Goldust and hits Samoan drop. Jimmy hits his running arse splash in the corner and Jey tags in and hits one of his own! The Usos dispose of Diego, The Miz and Stardust and then look to dive to the outside but Diego pulls them out. Goldust gets back in the ring and hits a powerslam for a two count.

Jey Uso hits an enzeguri on Goldust and then finally dives to the outside on everyone. Stardust then hits the falling star on everyone before Diego back body drops El Torito out and follows him out, diving out on everyone. Back in the ring and El Matadores go at it with Stardust and Goldust. They all get stacked up on the corner, suplexing each other down to the mat. Miz tags himself in as Jey USo hits a big splash on Goldust. Mizdow then tags himself in and pins Goldust for the three! The Miz and Damien Mizdow win the match and the WWE Tag Team Championships! Miz celebrates with both titles as Mizdow copies his celebrations! A great way to start the show.

And that was Survivor Series 2014. I really enjoyed this show. If you haven’t seen it then I urge you to go and watch it when you can. for the most part it was a really good show and most of the matches were really enjoyable. The tag team match that kicked things off was a lot of fun. Four tag teams with unlimited potential. and a few “proper tag teams” as I like to say. The Usos are a really solid team but I’ve really been enjoying the work from Stardust and Goldust. Damien Mizdow has been the most entertaining guy in the company for a while now but it was somewhat of a surprise to see Mizdow and The Miz win the WWE Tag Team Championships. It’s a good spot for them though and it’ll keep them on the shows and PPV. I just hope the gimmick doesn’t become repetitive but only time will tell on that one. A great match to kick things off with.

The Divas then had a traditional Survivor Series match and I really enjoyed this one. They were given plenty of time and it was a big improvement on some of the female Survivor Series matches we’ve seen in the past. Team Natalya was a lot stronger on paper and they won the match in a clean sweep. This meant that Naomi finally picked up a pay per view win. I liked the story with Paige as she has been the most heavily pushed diva in this match as of late but she got her comeuppance when the numbers became too much. A good match from these girls. Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt then had their match and it became clear that this match was used to setup up a TLC match at next months pay per view. These two guys have a lot of chemistry and I like this feud. It should keep them ticking over before their Wrestlemania feuds kick in next year. This was a setup match for next month but again, an enjoyable match.

Next up was the tag team match made earlier in the match between Adam Rose, The Bunny and Titus O’Neil & Heath Slater. This was pretty random but they have been feuding for the last couple of months on Raw so I guess it made sense. They seem to think that The Bunny is the star of this quartet so it was he that picked up the pinfall victory for the team. It looks like Adam Rose is on the cusp of a heel turn as he refers to himself as a God and claims that his Rosebuds worship him. They could go down a really dark, cult like direction for this character which would be pretty cool. I expect to see Adams Rose feuding with The Bunny going forward. And then came a very short Divas Championship match. Nikki Bella beat AJ lee after Brie kissed AJ’s face off. I’m not sure how much coming back from this there is for AJ after such a quick loss. I don’t know if AJ is leaving considering all the controversy with her husband CM Punk but if she’s not then I wouldn’t be surprised to see her feud with Nikki Bella continue. Also did Brie break character by celebrating with her sister or was it a ruse all along? I don’t know, it seemed strange.

And then came the epic main event. This was probably the best traditional Survivor Series match of all time. It felt like there was so much on the line. I was surprised to see Mark Henry eliminated so quickly. Ryback was next to go and then Rusev was counted out which was a good way to eliminate him as he stays strong. Erick Rowan was next to go. And then came the controversy as Big Show turned heel again (Jesus Christ) and knocked John Cena out of the match. John Cena being eliminated at the mid-point of this match was a big elimination and it left Dolph Ziggler against three of Team Authority. Dolph had a massive comeback, eliminating Kane and Luke Harper. And after The Authority got involved it took the debut of Sting to even the odds. It is so good to see Sting in the WWE. The match possibilities are endless with Sting, talk about a main event talent. It looks like he’ll be paired with Triple H until Wrestlemania. Dolph Ziggler won the match though and that means The Authority are done! I’m sure Raw will pop a big rating as people want to see the aftermath of this. A great main event though, it lasted 45 minutes but it was a fantastic watch. Really well done.

Overall Rating: 67/100 (ranked 31st out of 308)

  1. The Team Natalya vs. Team Paige marked the final WWE PPV appearance of Layla, who would be gone from WWE the next year.

At the same time, I feel sorry for Paige, who had to team with three of the biggest Marty Jannetty’s in the business (Cameron, Layla, and Summer Rae).
